Bà Tư nói với ông Tư mình già rồi, có sao chỉ tội thằng Long. Ba má nó không về, ai nuôi nó. Sanh lão bệnh tử, giữa những cơn đau, ông bình tĩnh chuẩn bị. Bà Tư từng nói nếu Chúa rước bà về trước thì bà sẽ đứng đợi ở cửa Thiên đàng đến khi nào ông lên tới nơi mới cùng ông bước vào. Ông không tin lắm vào một cõi nào khác cõi ông đang sống, chẳng qua vì thương bà mà ừ à cho bà yên tâm. Nếu tôi tới số trước bà thì bà cứ nhờ thầy giảng làm phép rửa tội cho tôi, sao cho tôi cũng được tới cửa Thiên đàng đứng đó đợi bà.
