Some days I really hate the adoptive family trope. Mainly because people paste it to characters where it feels unnecessary. I'm talking about DK Bananza here. (Everyone is allowed to have their opinions, just don't treat it as canon)
DK already has so much family in the DK country/64 series I honestly don't think it's necessary to peg Pauline as family as well. For me they give major fast/found friend vibes, especially in dialogue were given throughout the game.
There is also the age bracket of said characters, Pauline is clearly stated as 13, but DK is kept ambiguous, probably for the same reason Sonic characters were made ambiguous recently.

There's this interesting factoid I always remember in Yoshi's Island DS, in this game every main Mario character is still a baby.
Meaning that most of the cast is very close in age range. As for Koopas, Yoshi, and Kongs those species might age differently, like having their growth spurts more early. ( I'm gonna add that Chunky Kong is younger than DK and is bigger than most kongs, so yeah.)
This aspect makes the outlandish timeline more conflicting (if you let it get to you). But it works for me!
#DSD577#ramble rambling#retcond or not this is very compelling as canon#Yoshi's Island DS#Donkey Kong Bananza#DK Bananza

Top: in the Canyon Layer in Donkey Kong Bananza, the artificial sun is actually a banana bunch made out of glowing crystal. Since the sun is extremely bright, this is difficult to notice during regular gameplay unless looking closely at it.
Middle: interestingly, when positioning the sun so that it shines through a crack in a wall, it becomes apparent that the lens flares from it are shaped like banana bunches as well.
Bottom: for a few frames when Donkey Kong enters an underground area, the skybox fades out and the banana bunch can be seen more clearly if analysing the footage frame by frame.

Left: there is a rare alternate side art for Donkey Kong Jr. cabinets (confirmed as official by being posted in a 2002 issue of Nintendo Power) that contains a woman sitting in the top right, whose identity is unknown. The only prominent female character in the Mario series at that point was Pauline, but Pauline does not appear in the game and was never depicted wearing a green dress in official material.
Right: the closest design to this character in the Mario franchise is the human form of Wendy Koopa (known as "Kootie Pie" in the cartoons) from "The Beauty of Kootie" episode of the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon series. Of course, the cartoon was released 8 years after the Donkey Kong Jr. artwork, so the artwork cannot be in reference to it, and the cartoon is very unlikely to be in reference to the artwork.

A vineyard quietly spreads out at the foot of a mountain in the sunlight 🌳 Knuckles can't help but smile at the wonderful fruit of the jewel of nature, lush with sunlight. 😊
