also how does a tertiary label work? i've seen quite a few people identify as aroace lesbian but i'm still not sure what that actually means

Excellent question! At it's core, tertiary labels function to delineate what kind of attraction an aroace person experiences outside of romantic/sexual attraction. "Aroace" is also an umbrella term, so the person might experience some attraction, and thus use "aroace [tertiary label] to express that.

In my case, I'm not 100% sure where I fall on the spectrum. Some days, I'm full aromantic, others I feel more demi- or gray-romantic. I use "aroace lesbian" to describe the very limited romantic attraction I do feel, and to indicate that I'm attracted only to women and nonbinary people. In the context of intense, non-romantic/sexual attraction, I'm also drawn towards women and nonbinary people (As in, I would generally prefer to be in a QPR with people of those gender). Thus, I use the label to express that. This is just my experience, and every person with a tertiary label is different.

it's wild that there are so many people out there who a) advocate against slut shaming all the time, b) understand that aroace people have fulfilling platonic relationships bursting with love and closeness and c) understand that you can be asexual and alloromantic. but when they find out you are allosexual and aromatic they treat you like youre some heartless freak with committment issues who just can't let anyone in emotionally maybe if you just worked on yourself you could fix that???? and these are usually queer people themselves.
