                               Teresa is exhausted. She has been for a while but                                she knows she can’t stop. They have a strict plan                                and a single distraction can mean they won’t get                                to intercept her old group. One single mistake                                can mean Thomas will get killed.

                               She is caught by surprise by a whisper and her hand                                imediately grips her knife, taking it out of her belt in                                a quick, swift movement, and imediately pointing it                                at the stranger. It was a boy around her age but she                                had never seen him before. Was he a crank? Was                                he some new task they were supposed to overcome?

              he instinctually jumps backwards once he catches the knife               in the corner of his eye, throwing up dirty hands in defense.               eli tilts his head to the side and surveys her; she was the               same age as him & didn't show any signs of the flare which               came as a shock to him, he hadn't seen a healthy person in               months. all around him were the sick & dying and here this               mysterious girl stood, among others, perfectly fine.

                                          ❛ hey, whoa! ❜

              his eyes didn't leave the knife aimed at him, wary of her               movements now. he thought to himself that calling attention               to himself may have been a bad idea but then shrugged it               off. he meant no harm & was only curious but then again:               curiosity killed the cat.

                                              ❛ i'm not gonna hurt you. ❜

                         he's brought to attention by the sound of scuffling feet                           across the cracked asphalt, peering brown eyes taking                          in an entire group of girls. he sits in the shadows,                          watching & waiting for anything. the thing about it all                          was only some of then had the look. the look in their eyes                          that was their sanity waiting to be lost. needless to say,                          he was confused about why they would drop healthy                          people off here. 

                         one straggles closer to him & he dares to come closer,                          entranced by the calmness that shrouded her entire                          being. maybe she wasn't like him. maybe she wasn't                          sick. not knowing what came over him he spoke up.
