The great thing about Garak being canonically jealous of Bashir's friendship with O'Brien is that it's not justified. It seems like it should be because he's "getting replaced" or whatever, but...Julian already tried that when Garak was off on his family reunion with Tain and it didn't work. He just stared at O'Brien wishing he was Garak. And poor Garak never knew that happened and remained transparently jealous of O'Brien for the rest of forever.

I’ve seen a post talking about Deep Space Nine being pre-9/11 show and I’ve never felt that more than Kira talking to Tom Riker and literally going “dude you’re so bad at being a terrorist, you don’t have that dog in you, if I was in your shoes right now I would’ve been murdering everyone I could because I was a an effective terrorist and that’s what an effective terrorist would do”, and it’s not presented as Kira being evil or unhinged, she’s just making a (correct!) observation about the situation.

Still not over Star Trek Picard lying to me and saying Geordi is bad at making friends. My man is so good at making friends it almost destroyed the Borg. He befriended a Romulan who wanted to kill him in a matter of hours and avoided a diplomatic incident because of it. His best fucking friend is a guy who didn't even know he was capable of friendship before Geordi. He's the best at making friends

I don't think the point of WW3 in Star Trek canon is to say that we have to almost kill ourselves as a species in order to get our shit together. I understand why it feels like that, and I've probably fallen into that same line of thinking before, but it sometimes gets framed as the cost of the Federation: you can't have the utopia without an apocalypse. It's our penance, the cost to enter back into Eden.

Instead, I think it should be encouraging. Even when humanity was at its lowest, we still pulled together and strove for better. There is still hope for tomorrow because of what we do today.

unpopular opinion but i think a ship that's not canon but both halves are canonically insane about each other is infinitely better than a ship that's canon and boring
