     oh. ah, he was hoping none would call him on the situation, that the tension in his shoulders would draw little more attention from the soldiers of the deliverance than the usual way he paces the halls of their borrowed holds, but araceli is sharp as a tack. she’s smart.

      it makes some pang of guilt throb in his chest. he’s been giving everyone the cold shoulder lately, hasn’t he? everyone but his beloved.

           “ -- i’m. . .alright, araceli. i’ve just got some concerns about the campaign so far. it’s spiraled so far out of what i originally planned for the deliverance that i feel a bit helpless whenever alm talks about our upcoming strategies. ” it wasn’t exactly a lie, but it’s obvious that it isn’t the full extent of what was bothering him.

Gently reaches up and.. Wraps a scarf around his neck! "You looked kind of cold earlier, soooo I picked this up while I was at the market earlier! I got Lady Mathilda one too, can you send her my way if you see her before I do? Hehe.. Does it not get this bad in Zofia?"

     he looks downright miserable in the cold as he does his patrols, but the doting from his summoner and the gifted scarf help quite a bit. he laughs as she tucks it around his neck, tying the ends gently so it won’t slip off his shoulders. it’s obscenely warm ; he wonders briefly what it’s made out of.

          “ no, zofia is. . .most of the nation is at the seaside, and being south of rigel means we tend to keep warm. part of it is mila’s influence, i think, and her willingness to make things comfortable for her people.

         needless to say, i dislike the cold myself. i’ve seen snow only a handful of times in my life ; i could count it on both hands, really, and most of those have been during campaigns on rigelian or border soil. ”

the son of a count serving the king of nohr, clive is one of the knights in the royal military – specifically under the command of crown prince marx. he spent much of his childhood fostered at the castle under king garon and as such, feels a sort of kinship to the older siblings of the royal children.

his class is cavalier, with the reclass options of knight and mercenary. his personal skill, kinship, allows him to gain points to his strength and speed stats when paired with one of the royal siblings.

re: comparing clive and zeke, even if doing so irritates me bc they are so. different. they are so different..........but both are exemplified as knights, as being Model Knights to look up to

for zeke, a large portion of it does lead back to his whole camus-zeke-sirius situation and camus’s title as the greatest knight to live, but it’s also definitely the fact that he’s the perfect ideal of what a rigelian knight should be under the old teachings of duma. duma was of the idea that harsh circumstances bred hardy, strong, reliable humanity and if there’s anything you could call zeke’s circumstance, it’s harsh. it’s hard and gruesome and camus was molded, is molded still, by the way things have progressed around him.

send him to valentia and rip his memory from him and he’s still a knight. he’s still got that battle prowess -- and he still has the heart in him that leads him to want to help people. he’s THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of what old dumaism leads towards, even if he’s not a native rigelian himself.

in clive’s case, he’s raised in zofia. he’s raised in mila’s lands, where everything is prosperous and those who can afford it live without strife. it’s a world where he doesn’t have to be the way he is: he could be like any other noble described from zofia, spoiled and rotten to the core.

instead, clive actively chose his knighthood. it’s something he strived for even when lima turned out to be a really awful sketchy guy and when things started to go downhill in zofia. there are pirates on one border and the threat of rigel on the other and a corrupt king is cut down and a family villa is torched and clive says enough, clive says this is not who we are and the deliverance is born during this time.

clive is definitely almost like a storybook knight. he’s the one in the shining armor that goes off and defeats the dragon and saves the princess. his beliefs are founded on the idea that knights protect the people of the kingdom -- that the people ARE the kingdom and thus they are worthy of being defended and worthy of living lives without hardship. granted, some of his ideals are skewed in the beginning because of his highborn status, but by the end of the game he’s unlearning these ideas and learning that yes, everyone deserves this chance and the knights of zofia are the only people who can bring that chance to them by being the sword and shield of those without either

today on this essay, i will describe why zeke is the epitome of a rigelian knight while clive embodies everything the knights of zofia wish to be --

clive is totally fine just being referred to as ‘sir clive’ because of his knighthood despite his status as a member of nobility that technically deserves the title of lord ( tho i had him with. an actual title on my other blog. i just don’t remember it. )

also note: zofian culture calls all knights sir / ser regardless of gender
