QUICK TRANSLATION FROM CUBE BOOK - Yong Junhyung

quick backstory on junhyung (from the book) before i translate a later chapter (so it’ll make more sense): when junhyung first came to cube, papa hong originally had mixed feelings about him so he sent him back home saying “i’m not sure if you’re right for cube” but every other staff member kept on telling him that he was wrong to do so and that there was something really special about junhyung. also, junhyung himself sent a text to papa hong saying “President, I will practice and work as hard as I can until I can find favor in your eyes and I promise to come back to Cube. Please give me one more chance” because of all these things combined, papa hong had a nagging feeling that he would be making a bad decision if he really let junhyung go so he decided to give junhyung a second chance

CUBE BOOK: Papa Hong's introduction on Yoon Leader

Dependable. Manly. Perserverance. Amazing leadership.

As I was working at JYP, these are some of the things that I thought about when I first saw Yoon Doojoon. Of course as time went by, there were things that didn’t match up with my first impressions but his leadership did not disappoint me. Wouldn’t that be the reason that I chose him to be BEAST’s leader? Whenever Yoon Doojoon receives a task as a leader, he tries his hardest to take his role seriously and to follow through with the task as perfectly as possible. Just as any good leader, he doesn’t speak over his members but rather, speaks as a representative for the members. He has an innate ability to be able to organize his thoughts and communicate them when he gives recommendations, talks about ideas for the album and overall hopes for the group. When I hear the words “There is no one that leads and sacrifices himself for the benefit of his team as much as Yoon Doojoon” from people around me, I realize that at the very least, I have a special talent in being able to choose great leaders for groups.

Yoseob: I felt proud. Because this was a song I really wanted to sing to my mom, the whole time I was singing, I could only think of my mom. When we debuted… As well as every time we released an album, I think that my mom cried every single time. If she was sitting amongst the audience, I think… I think she would’ve cried a lot…

Yoseob’s Mother: After being able to hear this song…. I feel so proud… And… I’m so glad he grew up to be such a good person. There was so little I could do for him… The fact that I can see such good results after seeing him work so hard without rest… I’m so glad… He’s admirable, I’m so proud of him

CUBE BOOK: PAPA HONG ON YONG JUNHYUNG

Junhyungie was originally a vocal singer in his previous group. Regardless of this fact, I heard from the rookie development team that he specifically asked if he could take on the role as the rapper instead. Knowing that he had an exceptional way of expressing words, I had no reason to veto that decision. Rapping each line with such emotion as if he had already experienced all the love and hardships in life, Yong Junhyung. Thinking of which group might’ve gotten their hands on such an amazing rapper if I had eventually let him go as a trainee… It makes me incredibly grateful and relieved that we brought him back. The tough and manly way he speaks his rhymes but with his soft charisma. The way he uses that charisma to his advantage on the stage, Junhyung’s rapping is like a masterpiece that the spotlight has no choice but to shine on.  From the very first mini-album, Junhyungie wrote his own lyrics carefully. To tell you the truth, as soon as he revealed that he wanted to be the rapper of the group, he also revealed that he would like to write his own lyrics as well. He had the ability to work and rework each rap with such finesse that even the other members were amazed. These days, he is so immersed with writing and composing that he will come to me every day with questions and during his free time, will come up with questions that he can ask more experienced composers and songwriters as well. Anytime the group comes back from a schedule or from overseas activities, I know he must be tired but whenever I look for him, he has somehow ended up back in the recording studio.  He waited patiently and worked so hard for this moment although I’m sure it was very difficult. To tell you the truth, I should be thankful to him for giving me another chance to work with him again. When I see how hard he continues to work to this day, there are times when I feel tears. If I hadn’t brought him back when he was ready to quit being a trainee, where would he be? But more importantly, where would I be? Unprecedented passion, Yong Junhyung. I will forever feel grateful and sorry.

CUBE BOOK: Papa Hong on Yang Yoseob

Yoseob is acknowledged by the rest of the group as an angel. It’s not that Junhyungie is receiving any preferential treatment or anything but because he is interested in learning how to compose and write music, he is in a special situation that allows him to meet with well-known composers and songwriters in order to learn the art of creating music. However, when Yoseobie watches Junhyungie work so hard at creating this music, he always has one thing to say. “Junhyung-ah, when you’re done writing the lyrics and composing the song, let me know. I’ll learn it and sing it for you!” Likewise, if any other member finds a song they like, Yoseob will say to them, “What’s the title of the song? I want to practice it so I can sing it for you!” He has a special talent of making the atmosphere within the team really bright with his constant upbeat and positive attitude. And if ever the group members are exhausted after practicing for long hours, he knows just how to console them by saying, “Be strong because by practicing, we are learning how to become one.” Yoseob is always looking out for the team members by making sure they’ve eaten and are well cared for. In fact, he is the kind of praise-worthy guy who will even make sure every last member of the staff is cared for. The kind of guy who is great person by nature and rare to find. The fact that Yoseobie has an amazing personality is something that is acknowledged by every person affiliated with Cube. Although he may seem young and innocent at times, he is an extremely mature guy who shows self-control beyond his years. Maybe its the unexpected combination of cuteness, onstage charisma and ability to take care of all those around him that allows him to be so popular with fans of all ages.

Yoseob's Father: To tell you the truth, Yoseob was not really one to talk about how hard life as a trainee was at home with us... Although he was dropped from several companies and had to leave groups after training months with them, when he came home, he wouldn't show any outward signs of disappointment. He would say, "Its okay Dad, I can always see other auditions elsewhere..." That is what he would say to us but he must've really been hurting inside by himself. He would go into his room alone and I could hear him crying and... yeah, those were the times when my heart hurt the most

MC: (to Yoseob) Why did you carry those burdens by yourself instead of letting it out to your parents?

Yoseob: The thing is... my parents were against me becoming a singer in the beginning so... saying that I was having a hard time was so hard in and of itself. I was so scared that they would tell me to quit if I showed them that I was having a hard time. In my heart, I wanted to be a singer so badly but it was so hard at the same time and... yeah, I think thats why I tried to endure it on my own.

Hyo-Shin handed her a small bottle with a familiar blue pill inside. It looked like he had nearly a whole prescription left. The pills were overdue to be thrown out but she knew that didn’t really matter.

“Thank you. You didn’t have to do this.”

“I don’t understand why your doctor cut you off. Sleep is a perfectly acceptable habit to develop, especially if you can’t do it on your own.” That made her smile and he looked pleased that his joke worked. He nudged her with his shoulder. “Sex really helps?”

Rachel shrugged before actually giggling at the ridiculousness of it. “It does. You should try it some time.”

“I run.” He raised his eyebrows when she looked at him. “Sex and my issues don’t mix well and I do better with a full night of sleep. It gets the job done.”

She pressed her lips together and then shook her head. “Running doesn’t always work for me. I can’t give advice on the sex thing. It only works with Young-Do. Before, with other guys I didn’t really care about, they weren’t able to exhaust me like I need.”

“We’re being very blase about a very interesting subject. It must be late.” He reached out and squeezed her hand. “That’s very insightful. Go get some sleep.”

“Thank you, sunbae. I really appreciate this.” She squeezed his hand and went back inside.
