The Bishops are angry. They marched through the halls, their cloaks billowing behind them like crimson flames. For a second, I thought Nico was looking right at me. They're looking for something, but no one knows what. I've been hiding in my room, reading forbidden books.

More flowers appeared on my nightstand. A note sat with them this time, the only thing written on it being ones and zeroes. I know it's a code, but I can't fogure it out. Much like the codes that appear in my dreams, this one seems familiar. Will I ever understand?

I found flowers on my nightstand. They were an unusual color, one that I've never seen within Dema. Yellow. A color that's been banned for as long as I can remember. I've seen it in the banned books I used to borrow from an old friend. I shoved the flowers in my pocket and buried them outside when I thought no one was looking. But I know they saw me. They see everything.

I've heard rumors about a being that lives just beyond Trench. They call him the Torchbearer. Someone said that's where Clancy is, that he's finally found him, and is free from Dema. He's escaped before, but the bishops brought him back. I remember the days he was gone. The bishops had interrogated everyone. Some of the people they questioned never came back. If Dema is as safe and perfect as the bishops preach, why did Clancy leave?

Sleep has abandoned me. The bishops preaching isn't offering me the same comfort it used to. I've never felt paranoid before, but every time I see the vultures swarming above, it reminds me of the nightmares. The same numbers plague my dreams. I've been writing them down, but nothing makes sense. What do they mean?

Ones and zeroes haunt me like an unforgiving symphony. I see them when I sleep. My nightmares are plagued with codes I can never decipher. The vultures have been circling, more often than they normally do. Their piercing gazes send shivers down my spine, but why?
