"I stop talking any kind of sense, I'd embarrass myself -- which is my least favorite thing."

“I could see that.” Nari shrugged. “Sometimes it just helps talk to people. I know nearly every time I did a meet and greet, I would take an edible beforehand. Calmed my nerves. I guess that’s not necessarily the same thing though.”

"I drink in the shower. Maybe not the most practical, but it usually unlocks something."

"Constantly -- it's a point of pride."

"I get the best seat possible."

"Patti LuPone spat on my shoes. It was kinda an honor, honestly."

"I got it in the welcome basket when I moved to town and never bothered trying it," Demi explains as she pulls the bottle off of the rack and walks it to the counter.

"It's from that local place, so it'll be easy to complain if it tastes like garbage. I didn't even know you could make wine with oranges," she muses as she rumages in the drawer for her wine opener.

Or at the very least, Delilah hadn't met one that she wouldn't simply drink anyways--only to not let it go to waste, of course.

"In that case, I have more logistical questions," Demi answers while leaning forward in her chair.

"Does my leftover water roll over into the next day? Or do I have to use all of the four gallons or else it goes to waste?"

"No restriction or limitations on relieving yourself in any capacity," she chuckled. She only had reference to the musical because her college roommate was a media diehard, especially in political satire. "Max of four gallons a day, so enough to drink, wash, and basic food prep." If it were ever critical, the minimum would be 1.5 gallons. "I'm working on a documentary idea. Just in my first stage of gathering perspectives."

"I think the ability to drink when alone is one of the biggest indicators for a strong sense of self. It doesn't show a lot of backbone if you only have vices in social situations."

“Yeeesss!” Nari clapped her hands before pouring a shot for herself and the woman. “Oh? Yeah, I mean.. I try not to drink alone too much anymore. It… wasn’t great for me.”

"Sometimes I like to drink outdoors."

"Yeah, I just can't fight off the deeply maternal, nurturing instinct. It consumes me," Demi answers as she chews through another handful of popcorn.

"Oh, yeah, you got me -- I wore a pink, puffy dress with butterfly clips in my hair. It was very becoming, no one could resist me," Demi deadpans before taking another swallow of punch.

"No, I was a weird theatre kid. I went with a bunch of friends. I had a black little cocktail dress and I threw on a cape I stole from the costume shop. But no tiara was ever in the cards for me."

That kind of creativeity hadn't even been rewarded in Nebraska.

She chuckled ruefully around the rim of her glass as her eyes continued to roam. "Unfortunately so. Class of 1997. And no, I thought I was too cool to go to prom, but my best friend convinced me to go last minute. It was...kind of nice, actually."

She very pointedly stopped her eyes from wandering in search of a shock of red hair somewhere in the crowd.

"You? Can I guess — were you prom queen?"

It had been five years since Briseida's critically acclaimed documentary came to the world. After that high for her first release as a filmmaker, she had receded into the shadows. Her father had produced hit after hit with his roster of successful movies. How could she live up to that? Wanting to shake the cobwebs off, she had a concept, but she needed to gauge response and temperament. "Question. What would you do if we were in a dystopian society with rationed water? How would you use a bucket of water a day?"
