I wholeheartedly agree with everyone who has pointed out that Stolas believing he would die in Blitzø's place highlights how oblivious he is to his own privilege.

But I also want to talk about how Stolas wasn't the only one who genuinely believed he, a Goetia, could die in Blitzø's place.

Blitzø's agonised cries are not the cries of someone who thinks their lover is making it out alive 👀

When it comes to Loona and Stolas bonding I have some go-to faves that I'm very fond of and often see other people exploring too, like Stolas teaching her magic or Loona helping him with fashion and stuff like that! But honestly, what I actually want to see more than anything is situations where Stolas shows Loona that he can be relied on when she's vulnerable, that he's someone who can be trusted to help her when she needs it! There are lots of big ways to show this but the smaller ways you can be there for someone matter too, so I wanted to make a sketch of Stolas being a reassuring presence for Loona in a low-stakes but still meaningful way 🥺

Blitz and His "Fuck or Be Fucked" Worldview

There's been a whole lot of talk about Blitz and whether or not he's masculine (and why people assume he is) and what role(s) he plays in bed.

Then there was the penguin short, where he said this . . .

and we all got upset because it didn't match things we know and love about him . . .

I'm not writing this post to claim that he is or isn't exclusively dominant in bed (he's not- there's part of him that loves when Stolas is powerful and wants to get stepped on by him. OBVIOUSLY).

I'm writing it to delve a little into why this matters to him, and the clues are in how he talks to people all the time.

First of all, when Blitz is feeling his most powerful, he loves to boast about fucking people . . . in a violence way, not a sex way. BUT he always uses language that compares it to sex. Specifically, being the one doing the fucking.

He even kind of projects that attitude when Moxxie is fighting the boar creature . . .

Bitches and sluts and whores are people who lose. It's a gender-neutral term. Which ALSO just happen to invoke the connotation of these people (and boars and seals) being fucked.

Not so coincidentally, he also uses AFAB body part insults to condescend to or dismiss women he doesn't like.

And diminishes Moxxie's genitalia/suggests that Moxxie gets fucked when he's picking on him.

He implies something similar about sexual submission when Fizz is getting bullied by Mammon . . .

And when Blitz is losing, well . . .

Suddenly he's getting fucked and/or aggressive women are growing dicks.

So life is "fuck or be fucked." No matter his actual feelings about dressing feminine or about what's enjoyable in the bedroom, he looks at just about every interaction through the lens of who has the power. And connects power with traditional masculinity and sexual agency. In life, he's a top because if he weren't, he might get fucked. And getting fucked is bad, because then he'd lose control.

I have no doubt that "fuck or be fucked" has helped him survive. And people ARE out to fuck him over. But not everyone is. Cue Marina and the Diamonds lyrics. If you know, you know.

A little vulnerability, in the bedroom and/or emotionally, would be good for him. He's taking baby steps, and I don't think he'll let his guard down all at once. But I hope he gets more and more open to letting Stolas and other loved ones help him get there.

This was inspired by a conversation with @akirathedramaqueen, like a lot of what I post on here is <3. And thanks to people in a particular discord server (you know who you are but I won't list all of you) for encouraging me too.

Odd thought, but does anyone else think Sallie May will be used to explode Millie's previous microaggressions to Loona?

when the show starts Millie is more likely to call Loona their business's hellhound, instead of her name.

Making Loona joint office property, like a stapler or the photocopier.

And when Millie heads home, with the rest of IMP, for the harvest moon festival; we see where she got this attitude. From her family.

Everyone else gets introduced by name; but Loona who's back to be described as property.

Which Blitz rightly backs Loona up when she calls this shit out. But he slightly misses the point saying Loona's his daughter.

She was asking to be seen as an individual, instead of resource owned by Blitz. Like a pet or a work animal. And Blitz bless him still ties her statues with these bigots to being his.

Sallie doesn't even mention Loona in the group of people who came to visit.

She mentioned Stolas, who wasn't even staying with in their home; when Loona was.

Millie seems to have started to come around to treating Loona better. Using her name, talking to her directly instead of past her. And even asking her nicely to do something, instead of demanding things like Millie did before.

Yep, it's the very bare minimum of starting to see the other person as a person. And if Millie's changes where pointing out now; it'd be Millie wanting a cookie for something she should have been doing all along.

But it is interesting that it's been left, when Stolas doing the same thing to Blitz has been called out. (Because both her and Stolas are trying to do better).

It feels like a way to have this address would be seeing her own sister pull the same crap she used to. Sallie is set to be in more episodes. (Pet theory is she's help out with Millie's maternity leave).

Loona didn't feel these people deserved to know her name, because she'd just be the hellhound to them anyway. It's not like any of them even asks.

I honestly can't see Sallie May not fucking this up and being very rude; with Millie having to think about her previous actions and apologise.

Ahsjsjs it was indeed a rollercoaster! 🦉🥹💕

I remember watching Episode 2 for the first time and being so excited that the writers chose to make Stolas a lovable character???!!!

Episode 1 hinted at him being more than an antagonist (and I thought it would be so interesting if the writers chose to do so), but I was a bit skeptical- the arrangement already seemed like a complex problem to develop. Still, they took the difficult route, and I'm so grateful they did. Now we have a more nuanced and interesting character (like most characters in HB -that's why I love this show). It's so exciting to watch his growth journey, which is, of course, far from over.

Part of the reason that I hate the ‘Stolas is a bad dad’ discourse is that it taints Blitz’s character by association.

I’m sure Blitz has raised a brow or two at some of Stolas’ parenting choices (ie, let me introduce my kid to my situationship via hiring him to be a body guard, for example), but Blitz has never had any reason to doubt for even a moment how much Octavia is cherished. Her photos are all over the palace walls. Stolas talks about her enough for Blitz to know she likes music, taxidermy, and at one point, skateboarding. She’s free to express herself emotionally, even when it’s inconvenient for the rest of them. Stolas’ only concern in LA was Via returning home; he wasn’t even thinking of the grimoire!

One of Blitz’ primary motivations is to take care of his family, mostly his daughter. You mean to tell me that someone who holds being a loving father in such high esteem would want anything to do with someone he saw as a bad parent??

You really mean to look me in the eyes and tell me that Blitz would want anything to do with someone who he thought was seriously neglecting his kid? And I don’t mean a lapse in judgment or forgetting a promise or something Blitz might have preferred to handle differently if he could have. But do you seriously believe Blitz would want to settle with someone consistently neglecting and traumatizing his child? Are you stupid?

Something interesting I’ve noticed.

[That inevitably led to me overthinking everything again and resulting in another prediction/hope for future seasons]

Stolas himself admits here that he expresses himself best through song. And thinking about it, he’s right! Throughout Helluva Boss we’ve seen instances where Stolas has tried to express his feelings/thoughts to others, but will ultimately trip over his words or backtrack. Particularly if he’s nervous or desperately trying not to upset the other person. Some examples? Those texts to Blitzø and that meeting with Asmodeus for the Asmodean Crystal.

Stolas sends Blitzø wall after wall of text going over everything that he wants/needs to say, only to backtrack immediately after Blitzø responds with a quick apology and an insistence to “nevermind”. With Asmodeus it’s a little more subtle. Throughout that meeting Stolas seems to stumble over what he wants to say quite a bit, actually hesitating and stopping frequently to collect his thoughts before speaking again.

Stolas himself readily admits that he “loves words”, but he only seems to be the most comfortable with those words if he’s reading or singing them, or in complete control of the situation.

Which brings me to my next observation. Blitzø actually seems to understand Stolas’ feelings better listening to him sing.

In fact, the two times Blitzø has been present to hear Stolas express his feelings through song, Blitzø almost immediately sought him out afterwards to talk.

Granted, both instances Stolas wasn’t really aware that Blitzø was trying to open up (either being drunk or outright passed out), but it’s interesting that both times Blitzø hears Stolas sing he immediately tries to have a heart to heart conversation afterwards. Something that’s near impossible to get someone as guarded/emotionally constipated as Blitzø is to do.

Granted, maybe I’m reading too much into this, but this definitely seems like a pattern to me. The only times Blitzø (willingly) tries to open up are after he hears Stolas sing, and the only times we see Blitzø actually sing himself is when Stolas is involved in some way. And in a show that’s basically a musical where Blitzø himself as the main character hates on musicals…I can’t help but think Vivzie is hinting at something.

Specifically, that Blitzø isn’t going to be the one to say “I love you”, he’s going to sing it! Blitzø is gonna get a song, I’m convinced of it!

There’s a huge debate about how Stolas is as a father. He has gotten a lot of animosity after season 2 and some people were debating about Octavia after Sinsmas.
