Please, Samir's condition is serious. He is in a coma. I beg you. We do not want to delay travel due to slow donations. If everyone contributes $100 or $50, it will help us with urgent treatment. I hope the owners of the big pages will appeal and not stop. We are a broken and desperate family. I do not know what to do with my children who are sleeping in the street, hungry, and with Samir, who is injured and in a serious condition. Please share as much as you can, donate and save my son who is fighting to live life. 🙏🙏🙏🥺

Lots of similarities between Steph and Jason but I think there is an important difference between them in that Steph’s first and closest experience with criminals was her abusive villain father and his friends who did crimes of ego, while Jason’s were 1. His dad trying to balance his apparent distaste for violence while keeping his family afloat, and 2. becoming a criminal himself as a homeless thief.

Saw someone arguing that Jason shouldn’t kill people because it makes Bruce sad or something and sorry but you’ve lost me immediately. There are 101 perfectly sound moral and ethical arguments for why Jason shouldn’t kill people and “being Bruce’s son/making Bruce sad” is not one of them. It is always morally correct to psychologically torment your father

“don't the jews deserve their own state?”
no. no religious or ethnic group deserves their own state. that is a stupid and terrible idea that always leads to the formation of an apartheid state as everybody outside of the “in” group becomes a disenfranchised second class citizen. from there you're only a skip and a jump away from a starting a genocide campaign.

While you're here, please consider donating and/or sharing Elaf Babiker's fundraiser! She and her family have have evacuated to Egypt after surviving the genocide in Sudan! They are residing in Cairo now!
But, like many cities around the world, the cost of living is high. So let's help them achieve the 25K mark! $24,632 USD has been raised. There is $386 left to go! You can match me. I've given $5, but you're more than welcome to give any amount!
Her fundraiser is vetted by two viable sources! It is #165 in the fundrasiers' spreadsheet by @el-shab-hussein and @nabulsi. Also listed on sudanfunds.com!

Jason Todd & the Possum Reflex
Welcome to my beautiful crack theory about how Bruce's training is actually what got Jason killed. It could be intriguing for angst if it wasn't extremely stupid, but I suppose that's the charm of comics, isn't it?
First of all, let's cover an odd moment that occurs during A Death in the Family: both Joker and Sheila assume Jason died after the crowbar beating. This leads into a secondary point, that Joker was not planning to kill Jason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman (1940) Issue #427
Joker was beating up Jason for fun. Joker wasn't planning to actually kill Jason, and freaks out a little when he realizes he may have to face the consequences of his actions! His following actions - tying up Sheila and setting the bomb - are meant to cover up the evidence. Joker believing Jason died is the reason he set the explosion that actually killed Jason. <- Put a pin in that. 📌
Except... Joker didn't kill Jason. Jason wakes up again, later, much to Sheila's surprise.
Tumblr media
Batman (1940) Issue #427
Now, you may have an objection here. What about about Jason's canonical immortality due to being trans? This would be a plausible alternate explanation - that Jason did die, only to come back to life after the bomb was set - if not for Deadman's perspective.
Tumblr media
Deadman: Dead Again Issue #2
Jason was absolutely, unarguably alive that entire time.
Joker did not kill Jason, but both he and Sheila thought he did. And this is odd, isn't it? That Sheila Haywood, a doctor, would not think to check for breathing or a pulse? That Joker wouldn't make sure before going ahead with his very well developed plan Blow Up Evidence and Hope For The Best.
Of course, Deadman would be able to easily tell of Jason was alive or not, given that his powers. So if, say, Jason were to reflexively slow his pulse and breathing to the point that it seems like he's dead, it may be enough to trick Joker and Sheila, but not Deadman.
...
Hey, wait.
IT'S TIME TO TALK ABOUT BATTLE FOR THE COWL.
Battle for the Cowl by Tony Daniels is a great comic if you want to watch your fav get character assassinated six ways to Sunday. It's also a great comic because of the glorious Possum Reflex. Let's hear what Tim has to say about it:
Tumblr media
Battle for the Cowl Issue #3
Tim implies before this panel that the reason why Jason didn't actually kill Tim was because the Possum Reflex meant Jason thought Tim died. Jason is, earlier, seen testing Tim's pulse, and telling Dick that Tim was dead.
Let's pretend that I respect what the comic has to say long enough to come to the conclusion that the Possum Reflex is effective enough to trick Jason into thinking Tim was dead. Meaning that theoretically, it should be enough to trick Joker and Sheila.
Despite getting training from many other sources, Tim specifies that Bruce taught him this technique. Therefore, it is not too far-fetched to say that Bruce developed this technique earlier, and would have taught it to the previous Robins... like Jason.
Now, let's address that earlier pin:
📌Joker believing Jason died is the reason he set the explosion that actually killed Jason.
Jason, in ADitF, did not die due to the crowbar. Joker only believed Jason died because the beating triggered the Possum Reflex. In teaching Jason this technique - a technique meant to protect him - Bruce instead led Jason to his doom.

Reading every 80s Jaybin comic has made me so much more annoying about timing misconceptions that I see in fics a lot, mostly having to do with Dick. When Jason was Robin...
Dick did not live in Bludhaven. Dick lived in New York with the Titans
Dick had not been a cop yet. That didn't happen until around NML (he mentions applying to the academy in Road to No Man’s Land)
Dick was still Discowing. In fact, he was still like two or three costumes away from his classic black & blue finger stripe suit
Dick hadn't had his mullet or ponytail eras yet
Dick was dating Kory
Barbara wasn't shot until shortly before ADitF, meaning she's could've shown up as Batgirl while Jason was Robin. She didn't with the exception of pre-Crisis Jason's origin story and a retcon from Gotham Knights, but she could have.
Bruce had several girlfriends/love interests during Jason’s Robin run, especially pre-Crisis. Primarily Selina, but Bruce also had something with Vicki Vale, Julia Pennyworth, Natalia Knight/Nocturna, and very briefly at the very end of pre-Crisis, Talia. Jason was notably jealous of Selina for taking so much of Bruce's attention, and he didn’t like her all that much because of that
There's no real point to this, I just. I guess. if you don't want to read the comics, you can always just check the DC wiki for when a certain event or issue came out. That's pretty well-recorded most of the time 👍

jason de-aged au/trope but instead of bruce getting to raise/take care of him like nothing happened and be resolved of any guilt, jason's child body loses all memories but keeps the instinctual gut-wrenching terror that he gets whenever he sees bruce and the man cannot get within 10 feet of him without jason having a panic attack and begging not to be hurt.

i've always felt that any scenario where jason is de-aged and bruce gets to raise him all over again just stops bruce from being held accountable at all. the only person who stands up for jason is almost always only jason so if jason loses all his memories and instincts, no one can hold bruce accountable for the things he did wrong. bruce gets to bask in de-aged jason's trust without having earned even a sliver of it and it is honestly a very fucked up scenario which strips jason of so much autonomy
jason retaining his instincts (like you mentioned) regardless of forgetting his memories would be a very effective way to hold bruce to some degree of accountability
(in reference to this post) yes absolutely!!! nodding my head to all of this.
jason's position as a victim (in regards to bruce) is often questioned or dismissed due to his actions making characters think he "deserves it"-- so his other actions in retaliation or defense against bruce get treated like theyre unnecessary and dislikable.
seeing this persevere in fandom through the de-aging trope (specifically in stories where bruce's actions are similar to those in canon-- not stories where the family is already friendly & nice) causes me so much discomfort, becuase like you said, its taking away so much of jason's autonomy.
it's also horrifying to me because it's a situation designed to allow an abuser comfort and forgiveness for his actions without any meaningful input whatsoever from the victim. to de-age jason todd and place him in bruce's care, in my eyes, is to kill jason todd and give bruce the perfect doll of a son he seems to want-- no "reckless and violent" tendencies or "unearned" mistrust in sight.
im glad you think my idea is an effective way to keep bruce in check! i also didn't mention it the original post because half of the batfamily are such staunch bruce defenders that they'd probably ignore this too-- but i do think that it (seeing jason's psyche be affected enough by bruce's actions that his fear permeates even a de-aging spell) could also be a way for some of the batfam to see that bruce's actions against jason, even as an adult, are at least questionable.
thank you so so much for the ask anon!!! i very much enjoyed yapping and hearing your thoughts <3
