THEATRE PITCH
On Friday the 8th of January, I had to give a pitch about my final concept. During the last few weeks, my concept became more clear. There’s still some work to do, but I’m far enough to talk about my concept.
But, than there was the question: in what kind of way will I give the Pitch. You have to be impressive, because this is the moment for selling your product or service. Beside of that it’s the last moment for feedback, to define your concept.
I decide to give my Pitch a fairylike touch. A story told by the Genie himself, continue by a story about what it does, how are the target group and so on.
This is the story I wrote down:

FEEDBACK
After my Pitch I get some Feedback. They like the way I did my presentation, because it was different from all the others. It’s like a special friend.
TIPS
Check if parents really want this
It must be more like a friendly friend of the child
Create more interactions
Too broad ; 0-12 years
QUESTIONS
What about the privacy?
What happens with the data?
How about the technology, how does it work?
How will the child learn something?
What do you see, when you use Genie?
How does it fit the ages?
A lot of flying object in the air, how will that look like?
A classroom full of genies, how will that look like?
24/7 monitoring, is this human?
Why do children need Genie?
Wil the child be independent?
What’s right & what’s wrong?
Will other parents not think, that her/his children are bad?
Why is it a flying object?
When and how do you get it?

First weeks
Everything I have done and learned in the passing weeks about innovations, patterns, behavior, serendipity and all the other subjects.
———————————————————————————————–
First day
Today, I had my first class of the minor “Designful innovation for one billion people”.
I felt a little bit nervous, because my English isn’t so good and I have to talk English everyday. It’s one of the reasons to choose this minor. I want to improve my English, because i know it’s necessary in the future to become a good designer.
We start the day by introduce our self. You have to write down your name and choose one letter of the alphabet. With this letter you had to describe your personality. It’s difficult to write down your personality when you have only one letter. I had chosen the letter ’S’, because it’s the first letter of my name. I wrote four words: Social, Sarcastic, Serious and Sometimes a little bit Surly. I didn’t have enough time to write more words, but sometimes i can be stressed, because i’m a perfectionist.
The next exercise was marked by ‘placemaking.’ In groups of six people we get the opportunity to redesign the classroom. What do we need? What is our vision? What can we be change in the classroom? We made a new floorplan with our vision.
We need a discussion-table, so we can discus our problems and ideas.
We need a place to relax
We need a place for presentations
We need a table for the stuff we need
We need a inspiration wall
After sharing our vision and finishing this, we had a small drink and end up the first day.
Workshop Languages & Culture by Marjolein
Today we have to bring something that’s typically for my country, region or village. I chose for something that’s typically for my village and region. It’s called ‘Bloemencorso’ or ‘Bulbflower Parade’. I will show a short movie: Bloemencorso Bollenstreek.
PLACEMAKING
This exercise was all about redesigning the classroom into a workable place for everyone. It’s a kind of reframing the dividing of the classroom.

Visit Markthal
On Wednesday we had to visit the Markthal in groups. The exercise was about finding patterns and behavioral settings in the Markthal. One of the things I already knew is that I never felt ‘oke’ inside of the Markthal. It’s a huge building, with a lot of stalls, people and the roof is full of flowers.

How to draw concepts?!

Week 1
The meaning of one billion

A walk around the world | Antwerp
On the 10th of September we visit Antwerp. We had one goal:
Find and search for trends, inspiring cultures and useful experiences. The day started early in the morning with the energizer ‘Hide and Seek.’ One person where hidden and they other had one job: finding the hidden person. It was funny to do, but it took a piece of my energy instead of gives me energy.
After this energizer we started the ‘Walk around the world.’ WE thought it was easier to group up, because more people returns most of the time in more input. So, my partner in crime Lee and I decide to start the walk with four other boys - Luuk, Hossman, Cha and Laurens. They were guiding us through Antwerp.
I was impressed by the first part of the walk, walking through the streets were all the old castles are build.
Week 2
Coolhunting
We had to find the following
RECOGNITION
We record recognition; we observe and record familiar places, that ‘fit’ in the concept of a previous experience. We associate unnoticed memories with those places, we “know” the behaviour setting of such a place.
MEANING
We record meaning in the built city. Meaning has everything to do with the (inter) subjective bias of the form language that is seen in the urban space.
EXPRESSION/DISTINCTIVENESS
We look at the expression/distinctiveness. It is the first principle of identity: the desire to maintain personal distinctiveness or uniqueness. Research into the settlement identity and social identity suggests that distinctiveness summarizes a lifestyle, a person as a specific form of the relationship with his / her home environment, which is clearly different from any other type of relationship.
MEDIATING CHANGES
We look at mediating changes. How do inhabitants reformulate place identity? As inhabitants derive their identity in place, this means that they will go again intercede with the environment. That is: if this area represents a totally different identity.
ANXIETY & DEFENSIVE FUNTION
We look at the anxiety and defensive function. This feature helps to identify potential threats or dangers. Just as the city’s landmarks and meaningful functions serve to define what should be the place to be, the fear and defence function should define we should better not be at a certain place. This is important because if the environment is significantly different from one’s own individual identity, the anxiety and defence function help us to distance ourselves.
The Golden Circle
A short summary of the golden circle?
Why is about what you believe in. How is about what about the product can do and the what is the product. It’s about believing in what you do, so you should start with the why.
What means crossing the chasm?
When the early adopters start believing in a product so they’ll buy it.
What is a tipping point?
When 15% of the market share bought the product and the majority will start buying the product.
What is the adoption curve of Rogers?
It shows which market share is buying your product when.
What means in this perspective inside out versus outside in?
Inside out means that you start with the why and believing in your product instead of outside in where you only believe in what you are doing. When you start inside out people will believe in what you believe and they buy from their gut feeling instead of a rational buy.
Choose a brand and explain the golden circle
Coca cola. We think coca cola is a brand that works inside out because they create a feeling, happiness, and work from there. Their slogan is: open happiness. They never advertise just the drink, it’s always about the feeling that they are trying to give you, which proves they work inside out.
How can you use the golden circe in your innovation process in this minor?
It’s very interesting for us because it’s inspiring to think about selling a product from a feeling, not the product itself.

Concept Development
If there’s a suspect of child abuse, there are a few steps you can take to be sure the child needs help.
Talk with the child en listen to their stories. Give them the feeling that you are their for them.
Doing things together with the child, without asking about your suspicions.
1. Enjoyable drawing
Enjoyable drawings is all about storytelling made by children to know a little bit more about their feelings, ambitions and struggles in life. It’s a method for teachers or rescuers to find the needs and goals of the child. There could be an interaction between teachers and the child. If the teachers are getting the idea of child abuse, they can use some exercises to know more about the situation of the child.
Interactive classroom
Indicates the needs of the child, signals of psychological or emotional child abuse and other kind of interesting information based on data. Every child has his or her own pencil to draw or write a short story on the wall. You can do it individual or together with other classmates. The teacher can work together with the children to find some necessary information.
Interactive tables
Interactive classroom tables who recognize the child by using fingerprints or eyetracking technology. The child gets the opportunity to ask for help or share their problems with the teacher by using a special button. It allows the child to draw or write stories and share them with others or keep them secret.
2. The flying caring toy
An interactive flying toy who helps an abused child and their family to get over it. By using a gamification way of treatment. This flying object recognize anger or other signals of maltreatment. It will help a family to be kind, behave and to find a solution against the abuse of the child. The flying object can give some advice, search for ambitions or talents of the child and define some goals for the family.
The flying caring snitch
A flying toy which protect and helps a child against child abuse. It could protect the child when the parents can’t behave, but it also gives exercises to reduce the abuse. The family can work together by setting goals and getting advice step by step.
