Dukeceit Week day 6 - Fire/Philosophy.

It has been zero days since Remus set the mindscape ablaze!

The Stranger manifests as objects pretending to be humans, like mannequins, wax models and taxidermy, and is often connected to skin, faces, clowns, and identity.

My first illustration for the Sides as TMA Fear avatars!

Finally! After what feels like forever I've finished this piece and wow did this become much grander than I initially anticipated, though I suppose that's to be expected with Roman 🎭

The text in the background is a verse from "I've got no strings" because the Pinocchio reference was too juicy in this context. That's also while Roman's emblem has a whale now, it's Monstro!

Virgil: *starts dancing without looking up*

Roman: He's dancing even better than normal...

Logan: Did you hear George W. Bush died?

Virgil, still not looking up: Who dat?

Orange: *blows an air horn right in Virgil's ear*

Virgil: *doesn't react*

Roman: Virgil may never look at a real human being again. He's unbeatable.

Janus, smirking: Uh... I don't know about that.

Virgil, standing up: Janus Deceit Sanders are you kidding me???

Janus: Changed my relationship status to "it's complicated". Pony up, y'all!

*Janus' phone starts ringing*

Janus: It's Patton. Hey, baby.

People should acknowledge the fact that alcoholism has become a part of Logan’s character in like a genuine way, like yes it’s used jokey in the show but GODDDD it just makes it so clear what direction his character is going in. He is falling apart, he is becoming more and more dependent on destructive coping mechanisms, he’s pushing the light sides away more often and being more friendly with the dark sides and especially Janus, who has showcased a lot of similar traits which Logan seems to be developing, he’s a HYPOCRITE, he’s an ASSHOLE, he’s got issues opon issues!! He is a spiteful alcoholic and the nickname “nerdy wolverine” is becoming a whole lot more literal these days!! And I FUCKING LOVE IT!! DESTROY HIM, MAKE HIM HURT AND HEAL AND DO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN, ABANDONMENT IS NOT HIS ONLY ISSUE!! MAKE HIM HATE HIMSELF!!! WRITE HIM LIKE THE MESS HE IS YOU COWARDS

Fascinated by the idea that the sides all have various pain tolerances and different things that can hurt them varying based on what they represent. Like Logan is almost invincible because of his realistic nature, Patton is also pretty tough because of how grounded and steadfast he is, Janus is actually stronger that he seems because of his confidence and reserve, the twins have surprisingly low pain tolerances because Roman is a "fragile ego" and Remus has no real basis to protect himself with. I think Virgil would be the worst, because of his irrational nature, he just reacts.

That could explain why Logan seems to bounce back from death and how Patton recovers from being hit in the face so quickly, but Roman gets easily knocked out and put out of commission and Remus doesn't instantly recover from being stabbed in the eye. There's nothing to base Janus and Virgil on, I'm just spitballing.

what’s a sanders sides opinion/take that’s a hill you would die on?

Hmmm, honestly I feel like I’d need a list or something to go through- you know when someone asks you something that you know you have opinions about?? And your brain is like, well see ya! I’m off. Suddenly I’m blank lol-

But I can say some that just come to me now- I’m sure I have more and could touch on in the future! I’ll try and do like a combination of both positive and negative ones lol for the spice of it all

Disclaimer: if you disagree with these takes or opinions that’s completely valid!

- in terms of writing, I do not like how Roman and Virgil’s whole plotline ended in accepting anxiety. Like their whole enemies thing and all. I do like their current relationship, it’s very best friend/step brothers energy to me. However, I think the ending to their enemies arch was rushed. I think they kinda wrote themselves in a corner and realized they kinda needed Roman to accept Virgil in order for all of Thomas to accept him. I think they could have made it with in part 1, having Roman show more empathy or something for Virgil instead of just having him be like: yooo bro is gone we don’t need him! Ughhh fine I’ll come along I guess- Idk I just think, it personally really cheaped out the ending of the episode and gave me a sour start for the beginnings of their budding friendship, it felt undeserved.

- listen, if someone told me they hated Logan I’d be like eh that checks out, IDC, cool story. Despite Logan being my favorite and all- but you hate Patton??? Bro is just a little guy!! A fella!! Defending him till the day I die lol he’s a very complex character and I love him dearly.

- I will die on the hill that svs is my favorite written episode, I think the writing in the script is so tight and has my favorite characterization of Janus ever in the series. I think CLBG does the best job with the typical sanders sides formula, and will never be topped in terms of a dark side reveal. It’s just perfect.

- I prefer Remus’ characterization in WTIT to DWIT. But I think both are overall far better depictions of him than all the recent asides stuff.

- embarrassing phases is one of, if not the weakest episode of s2 (talking about canonical episodes) do not get me wrong, I think the costumes are fun! I love Pawton so much lol. But the writing is sooooo mid. I think all the sides are OOC and Logan and Roman especially act more s1. Also it started Patton and Virgil’s relationship being ruined in like- a bad way? I think LNTAO set it up nicely, the idea of some potential hardship and then this episode crash landed it lol

Take: The fandom treats Virgil like a teenager and in the process they ignore all of his nuance. I know it's left over from s1/early s2, but Virgil's character has changed and while I do think as a joke it's funny, it's tiring to constantly see fanfics and fan comics that characterized him as a teenager. I mean, he had a whole go at Patton for treating him a a teenager. He is a adult, and it's high time the Fandom treats him as one.

Now a headcanon? Janus flirts with everyone and everyone falls for it, he doesn't have a good reason, he just gets a sick joy out of watching people's faces go through the five stages of grief while they question their entire relationship with him. The only people who do not fall for this are Logan and Virgil, all flirting goes over Logan's head, and Virgil knows his act (he totally used to fall for it).
