Traveler Theory!! This is my take on their origin. Aether will be the main traveler and Lumine being the Abyss princess, because it wouldn’t really make sense is some of the areas being explained. I love both travelers equally!

My theory really is all about what they are. When they first landed in tyvat they looked like shooting stars. And their name. Lumine means to light up or to illuminate and Aether means upper sky. (Basically what the gods breath in.). But what I find most interesting is their Chinese names. Genshin is a Chinese game after all. Lumine’s Chinese name is Ying. The meaning is ‘one of the two opposing principles whose interaction is believed to influence everything in the universe.’ Meaning that her sole character is to change the universe or in terms of tyvat’s laws and divine rule. Everything in the universe is free to change accordingly to her, but that’s my take. Aether’s is Kong or Kong kong meaning empty or vacuous (meaning idiot or lack of thought) in another words mindless. I believe that Aether will get consumed. Aether also has purification accountable, but consumed meaning he’ll get consumed mentally and break and become mindless. He’s already changing especially in Inazuma and it won’t be long until he cracks. But what they are is a Devine being or a star. They watched the universe and other world getting created and destroyed. Hence their travelers, they don’t stay in one place, they don’t have a concept of time as they travel worlds it’s most likely that time in each world is different. So their bodies adapted to it and it stays eternally young as it has no concept of change. Their bodies believe it’s still the same for who knows how long. In the cutscene you can see tears in some, areas of their wings and only a little bits near the ends are chipped off meaning it’s been used constantly in battle. But when they got cubed up by the unknown god Lumine woke up first witnessing the distraction of khaenri'ah 500 years ago. I believe Aether was still in the cubes deep in the ocean near the beach he first awoke on. eternally slumbering for 500 years until the cubes rose up and dumped him on the beach. That’s when his journey started.

My little Headcanon of the travelers the reason why Aether (I pick male traveler so yee) lost his powers is because Lumine is too far from him or Lumine just cut off his connection towards her. They both share their powers and if one of them is very far away from the other or lost connection one of the Twins powers will shut off or fall asleep. Aether lost his sword because Lumine is not using light magic. (idk what it would be called) it’s the same with their wings. Because their stars (my other Headcanon) and are twins the reason why Aether summon a little mini galaxy is because Aether is looking for Lumine through the stars but considering Lumine lost their light her glow is dull and is already fading so Aether couldn’t locate her.
