Hey Profe 🍓:
Other ways to use quedar beyond "stay"?
This is a complicated one because quedar has so many idiomatic uses, as well as some idiomatic verbs in reflexive
First, quedar is "to remain" or "to be left" so it can be used in subtraction
Second, quedar is the verb used for clothing that "fit", and/or "suit (someone)"... if you look up the verb for "to fit" you'll likely see caber but that means "to fit" like capacity [as in "to fit in a car" or "to fit in an elevator"], but when clothing "fits" it's quedar(le) bien and it can also can be "to suit someone"
Also there's quedar(le) en ridículo which is like "to look like an idiot" or "to be left looking like a fool"
...
Then you have quedarse which is "to stay behind" most likely
quedarse can be "to remain" like "to stay the same" or "remain the same"
But the most idiomatic one is that quedarse is a "verb of change" in that in can be "to become" - but it's used in a distinct way
quedarse + adjective is like "to be left (adjective)" or "to be struck (adjective)"... like quedarse ciego/a "to be left blind" or quedarse mudo/a "to be struck dumb/mute"... Sometimes it's quedarse paralizado/a or parapléjico/a "paraplegic", or tetrapléjico/a "quadriplegic" for serious accidents
You usually see quedarse as "to become" when it's a kind of ailment or something very serious that isn't easily overcome
A less serious one is quedarse en shock "to be stunned/blindsided" or "to be in shock" [lit. "to remain in shock"], or quedarse de piedra "to be stunned/speechless" [lit. "to be turned to stone"]
It's dramatic but these are more like hyperbole than ailments, but still the emphasis is drama

reminder that donating just a few $ to gofundme campaigns actually helps, you don't have to donate huge amounts if you don't have the funds, every little bit is useful. give $10, $5, even $1. it all adds up. don't scroll past because you think you can't help. help in your own capacity. donate a dollar. share and speak up.
