hi! i know it's strange, or maybe u find it annoying. Apologies in advance ....but I wanna ask, can u help me in learning the animation of horses? Just guide me through ... if possible, please

I'm always happy to answer asks about how I make my art. I don't really know anything about animating so most of what I can help you with is just stuff to think about when it comes to equine locomotion.

I would suggest that you start out using Muybridge photos as a reference (they are available on Wikimedia commons) for animating horses. Make a plan like the one shown bellow once you've chosen a gait to animate to establish things like, when is the hind end at its highest and lowest point? How does it get there? When you've got a good idea of how things are moving then start animating.

In the video I just give some suggestions for what to look out for and think about with horses specifically. There's a lot more I could talk about but I tried to just cover some basics. Ultimately I think studying horse anatomy is always going to be a huge help.

In the video I talk a bit about canter but I'm showing drawings of a horse galloping, I just realised now how that might be confusing but my point about how horses have very little movement in their backs is true for all gaits so hopefully it still makes sense.

Several things:

I love your art style. You show crazy attention to detail, and the love, respect, and fascination that you have for horses and the way they move is visible in every stroke. I've always wanted a horse tattoo, and you're the first artist I've seen who conveys the dynamic form I would like to be portrayed by a tattoo. Your animated pieces are so lifelike, and the static ones seem like if I wait just one more second, they'll start moving.

Are you still doing commissions? Specifically a design that I could use for a tattoo.

If you are, what is that process?

If you aren't, would it be possible to get a tattoo inspired by your art? Specifically the ones where the horse is holding a head/arm or skeletal.

And if the answer is no to the above, thank you for sharing your art. I've been having a bad week, and just seeing it brought back so many of the good memories of growing up and made things seem better. I appreciate you! Thank you for all your very kind words, I'm happy that you get so much enjoyment from looking at my art!

I do take commissions, though I've only worked on paintings for people so I haven't created any tattoo designs before. With my commissions I charge 200 SEK for every hour I spend working on the commission + materials + postage. I'm guessing with the tattoo design all you would need would be a high quality scan so the final price would only be for time spent and materials (materials would probably only be around 50 SEK so not much). Usually people send me the photos they want used as a reference but that's more for if it is a specific portrait of an animal but I can also work through ideas in sketches and create a design you like. It is probably the easiest if you just DM me and we take it from there if you are interested in a commission since it is easier to have a dialog that way.

I don't mind people getting a tattoo inspired by my art, but I want to know which artwork they are interested in using (some of my pieces are more personal than others and some are commissions or now owned by other people) and they need to ask me for permission before using it. I would like to see a photo of the finished tattoo and receive credit for being the inspiration behind it.

Feels genuinely insane and quite unnerving that this has reached over 50 000 notes. I had no idea so many people would end up seeing and enjoying my animations when I first started making them. With the benefit of hindsight I would probably have written a better caption.

Info about the animations: they are all hand-drawn with pencil on paper. For the top two I used black calligraphy ink and fineliners. The gaits shown are trot, trot, tölt and gallop. The horse breeds shown are a Belgian draught, don't know, an Icelandic horse and a Thoroughbred (if I remember correctly).

This year has been quite trying, but I'm happy that I discovered a love of making these horse animations in 2023.

A bunch of my blue and black stylized horses, all painted in calligraphy ink. Some of these are a bit on the old side but I thought it would be nice to post them all together anyway.

I'm studying at the moment and haven't really been able to make the time to practice my art, so I'm probably just being a bit melodramatic about the whole thing and will hopefully have a lot more time in the summer to sort things out. But it is frustrating that everything takes longer than it used to and feels a lot trickier when I'm just achieving a result that used to be fairly uncomplicated for me.

Hello! Since the recent changes (new mature bans, and tumblr staff reduced to half of what it used to be), many have had their content wrongfully flagged as mature. Sometimes it's artworks using colours similar to skintones, but sometimes it's impossible to know what set the moderation/algorithm off... It's been a mess.

Why have two of my animation posts been flagged as potentially mature content??? They are literally just a runcycle of a horse trotting and that's it.

Does anyone else have experience with this kind of bullshit happening?
