This project was really great. The naturalistic vanishing and appearing of clouds along with natural colors of the sky, sun and clouds. Very well done, however I wish it kept going.

“Vanishing and Becoming”
For this project, I decided to use a massive storm front to illustrate the effects of color and light in a natural environment. This was one of the most natural forms of color I could think of. As far as lighting, I figured the vanishing and reappearing of lightening would be ideal for this project. I am from the Mid-West where storms come as a typical spring afternoon. Growing up, I have always loved storms; the quick and drastic darkening of the once clear-blue sky, the loud and jarring boom of the thunder, the melodic drips of the rain against the concrete, the starting flashes of lighting that cut across the world, I could go on. I feel like I can count on one hand the amount of thunder storms that have taken place in Colorado since I moved here 2 years ago. I miss these beautiful disasters!

This project was one of my favorites. The short musical loop mixed with the speed of the time lapses definitely mesh very well. With light being created by lightening and all the colors that come from that as well, I think this was very successful.

 Project 3: Vanishing and Becoming
Lightning. A natural phenomenon of enormous power. A mystery explored by humans over the millennia through religion, art and science. It was believed by the ancients to be a tool wielded by gods and goddesses - Zeus, Thor, Indra, Shango, Xolotl, Dian Mu, Namarkkun and many others.
Lightning appears, disappears and reappears in endless variety, creating a spectacular visual display. It also briefly illuminates the sky and the earth, and quickly leaves its subjects to vanish in darkness again.
In addition to its own nature of vanishing and becoming, lightning is part of a cycle of destruction and rejuvenation by igniting fires that clear the way for new growth.
The music accompanying these images is the intro to Adele’s Someone Like You. Falling in love, being lovestruck, feeling the current of electricity with another person, is as natural and idiosyncratic as lightning and leads to its own cycle of vanishing and becoming.

Visions - Project 3
Artist Statement:
The reading “Projection: Vanishing and Becoming” inspired me in a couple different ways. I wanted to reflect two of the most interesting things in nature, the human eye and human emotions. The sounds provided both convey emotion, the colors can enhance the feeling of emotion, all the while watching the human eye adjusting to light sources. All combined I think this has become a wonderful work of art.

Video Exercise
Musical Artist: Shallou Song: You and Me This video was made as a student exercise to get more familiar with video editing software. The Music Video is appropriating a montage of scenes from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist set to a song. I am not the creator of the music nor video. This was not created with malicious intent or any profitability, only for knowledge/feedback/suggestions.

Project 2: Loop Forever Artist Statement and Gifs+link
My initial goal or this project was to capture expressions/reactions, because one of the primary things my friends use GIF’s for is reactions. Whether it is sarcastic or serious, the reaction GIF’s always get a smile. I tried to focus solely on anime’s that I have watched to get these reactions as illustration does a good job of showing reactions with much exaggeration. However, I ended up getting lost down the rabbit hole of youtube clicking a recommended video after recommended video. So a couple are just funny to have looped, one I think is just full of passion, and in the end I decided to experiment with one of my favorite bands stop-motion music video to see how that works as a GIF. Was not trying to do anything deep with this project, just playing around making GIF’s.
Uploading the gifs was an issue. Only 4 are working on Tumblr. Below are them. For the rest please see them on my domain here http://www.diredesigns.com/4d/gifs.html . I remade the 6 that were not working and they still froze on tumbrl. The files were not too large so I am unsure what was the issue but their code was broken each time.

Exercise 2
Started with what came to mind, which were some anime’s I have watched and enjoyed.
Tumblr media
I like how this Gif works as a loop, as if the character is just blinking. Nicely done of the frames. (Aldnoah.Zero)
Tumblr media
This Gif I think was done really well, as if you are a fan of the show (Attack on Titan) the hands are not in the scene at all so the person who made this one added the hands so it was not a super simple clip to Gif process.
Tumblr media
I chose this one just because it is a selfless act that the heroic character does, gifting his heart to someone dying, nothing specific with the Gif. (Fate Apocrypha)
Tumblr media
I chose this one from Full Metal Alchemist because it does a really good loop.
Tumblr media
I chose this one for the same reason as the previous, it is looped really well, could just be because the scene is very fast so it works, but still it is nicely done and makes me dizzy if I stare at it too long, so don’t do that. (Knights of Sidonia)
Tumblr media
This style of Gif I think will be more common going forward, it essentially tells a large chunk off the story of the first season of Sword Art Online. I think Gif’s can be used to tell stories pretty well.
(Break from the Anime)
Tumblr media
This Gif is interesting because it is a still image on bottom and the motion on top, this one took a little more work. Not much, but more. (from Paul)
Tumblr media
This Gif is really interesting because the maker was able to make a still with a looping cutout off the flame. Very well done. (High Fidelity)
Tumblr media
This Gif is of one of the most iconic scenes in cinema, and one of my top 5 movies. The Gif is poorly made, slow timing and lots of frames missing, but it gets the point.

Exercise 2
Tumblr media
I wanted to post this Gif, I’ve recently been in a weird place emotionally and recently found this musical artist Lil Peep (depicted in the Gif), and it has helped I think. Also he is standing in front of the Takashi Murakami designed Louie Vuitton pattern, his work is neat. RIP Lil Peep

The collage work is great and the colors contrasting with the black and white is very strong. You might enjoy looking at some of Sixto Juan-Zavala's work, he likes to incorporate plants and insects, including butterflies, into his collage works. He did a workshop last semester on campus.

Artist Statement “the migration”
This series is a representation of how women are viewed. From my childhood,  I have experienced the way women are placed in a delicate and fragile frame, girls should wear pink, play with dolls and never get dirty. I represented this view with images of butterflies. Butterflies are viewed as delicate and fragile but in many cultures the butterfly is a symbol of  transformation and endurance. As a woman I am viewed at times as delicate and fragile and I am often muted. But I believe in the resistance against these views that have been labaled upon us since infancy have to change. As a women, mother, immigrant, I will fight to show my colors and break the stigma on what women can and can’t do. At the beginning of this series I wanted to talk about the migration of the monarch butterflies as a symbol of human’s need to migrate to places of opportunity and safety. As the project progressed I felt the most important thing that I am representing is the power we have  with un us no matter who we are and the need for us to stand up for eachother. As a mother, a daughter, a partner, an immigrant, a dreamer, an artist, a human I owe it to myself and others to push the stigma, push the limits, help people understand the importance of choices. I am not delicate and submissive, I am a fierce, strong, intelligent, woman that is fighting for a path of change for all the women before me and after me.
