        indrid’s smile softened a bit at the sheer dedication that he must have focused on the subject to already have a career plan. it was simultaneously alarming and endearing; indrid wasn’t quite sure which. “ well, i hope you’ll be kind to the cryptids, at any rate once you become a successful researcher. ”

        he eyed the pen and paper a bit warily from behind his glasses, tilting his head a bit. it was an honest question, seemingly asked without malice or ill intent. “ hmm. i…suppose there isn’t that much harm, considering that we are likely from different worlds, and…well, there’s certainly much more peculiar things at work here. ” he’d met a titan of a man in his first week - a ‘cryptid’ or two were hardly as surprising in comparison. 

       “ for starters, i’ve never met the loch ness monster myself but i have met those that i’d call similar who could be likely candidates if they live in scotland. as for ‘bigfoot’ - he’s an honest sort. you don’t see him around very much these days because he isn’t as brazen or rebellious as he was then. ” there were no specifics or identifying information given - which indrid thought was fair. “ he doesn’t appreciate the renewed attention ever since that video from the sixties. the sixties weren’t a good time for us, everyone was too trigger-happy with their cameras. ” it was around the same time that photo of him in point pleasant started making the rounds.

       “ the majority are happy to just live out our lives in a way that would likely seem rather mundane to you, honestly. ” 

        “  that’s the plan,  anyways.  my  sister  wouldn’t really allow for anything else if our current streak back home is any indication.  ”     -----  it wasn’t affronted,  no,  he spoke fondly of mabel and the strange way that she handled the paranormal;  it was an oddly-placed affection that she had in the face of danger.  even at her  mention,  he frowned and quickly rushed past it.  linger too long and he would miss her too much.

        “  i’m sure there are way,  WAY  weirder things,  all of which i’m trying to at least encounter when i still have the opportunity to here.  ”     -----  perhaps a bit too thrill-seeking in his own rite,  it has come as a product of a growing sense of confidence in the little that he had dug into and was confirmed true.  grunkle stan mocked his almost obsessive drive,  but he would argue to the end that it was all in curiosity.      “  i mean,  that makes sense.  gnomes and unicorns do some pretty normal things.  well,  maybe not gnomes,  those guys are definitely odd on their own.  ”     -----  there was a pause,  teeth rolling over the metal strip around the eraser of his pencil before thumping it twice against his chin.     

        “  are the photographers so nosy that they shove their way into your lives too?  ”     -----  he wasn’t one to talk,  he knew.  preparedness had led him to shelling out an embarrassing amount of money into disposable cameras.

enradiant :

a  momentary  loudness  contrasting  the  quiet  air  of  the  library ,   &   Trinity  Glassfille  takes  a  second  to  gather  herself ,   shifting  runic  book  closer  to  her  company .

    ❝   these letters are what my previous world used for  MAGIC ,   spells ,   alchemy ,   &   the  like .   how wonderous to hear someone else is familiar with it !   tell me ,   is your uncle a fellow alchemist   &   spell user as well ?    ❞ 

        “  i,  well  yeah!  it’s really rusty but i picked up a little bit in the past few months.  ”     -----  nerves morph into an odd sense of pride.  it mixes in his stomach with a rare sense of  glee  that he’s derived from clipped interactions with his grunkle, excitement that comes from escapades with his sister.

        “  you guys have magic?  like,  everywhere?  ”     -----  a sheepish laugh,  fingers tugging the curled hairs around his neck.     “  i’m not really familiar with it,  but i’ve been trying.  i don’t really...  know the  extent  of what he does;  there’s a lot that he knows since he’s traveled to all sorts of  WORLDS.  ”

     big  BIG  reminder that the gravity falls,  steven universe,  over the garden wall,  star vs the forces of evil,  miraculous ladybug, etc.  main characters are  CHILDREN.  idk how people keep forgetting this but it’s very important to remember...............................

     i’m super excited to give dipper a try;  those of you from citta might remember my old  mabel  ( starsown )  and after rewatching the series for maybe the 6th time,  i figured it couldn’t hurt to test run the other half of the mystery twins!  please like this post if you’d be interested in a short starter:  UNCAPPED  for now!  might run to your ims to plot just a little if i’m unfamiliar with your muse!!!

See…” Steven pulled a drawing out of his backpack.It showed one of the strange creatures hovering over the pit, drawn in Steven’sstyle of no noses and fingers.

        “  what happens if  WE  jump into it?  has anyone tried that yet?  ”  -----  it’s curiosity that pulls him forward,  fingers holding a corner of the paper offered to him in inspection.  his style is very much like mabel’s:  cute yet concise.  it’s the best reference he has so far,  so it’s concluded with a nod.     “  that’s so  weird...  no one questions it?  do they make unreasonable demands?  ”

she hasn’t the slightest clue about what this kid is talking about, but one thing is clear – he thinks she isn’t human. understandable, considering the black sclera surrounding golden irises. still, jumping to the conclusion that she came from some portal like a demon was a bit much. an eyebrow raises, hands coming to rest on her hips. “ Little boy, are you assuming I’m a demon of some sort? ”

        “  you...  are you not...?  ”     -----  he can hear mabel in his ear now,  cawing about how   ‘ you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover,  dipper,  that’s so messed up !! ’   and it’s embarrassment that trips his words,  flushes the tips of his ears in a burning red.  what else is there to say?  oh god,  think of something,  anything  QUICK.

        “  i’m sorry i thought you were a demon but at the same time,  i wasn’t sure because you’re not totally weird,  like you have a  body   and  face  and aren’t just made up of all teeth or something-  ”

        “  okay,  i  know  it sounds fake,  and me trying to justify it only makes it sound even  worse,  but i’m being honest for once!  what the,  ho-  well yeah,  something like that...  ”

        the irony doesn’t go over his head, and he stifles a chuckle that might be interpreted as rude by the boy. “ i’m not certain about your world, but they most certainly do in mine…the majority of them prefer to be left alone, though. are you a ‘cryptid hunter’? ” younger humans usually were the more open-minded, and in his experience the least dangerous to catch a glimpse of something different. 

        “  not exactly.  that tv title doesn’t really officially become mine until i go through film school,  write a few research papers, investigate more...  something like that.  ”     -----  it’s rolling that his words slow rather than the abrupt pause that he would employ with someone like stan or mabel to branch technicalities that they  definitely  don’t want to hear.  he’s so enamored with his own thoughts that indrid’s words nearly go unnoticed.

          “  woah,  wait,  really?  ”     -----  a  scramble,  pen and scrap paper yanked hastily from his vest.     “  could you,  could you expand on that?  ”
