Digital Contexts - Practice Based Research
There are two types of practice related research: practice-based and practice-led:
If a creative artifact is the basis of the contribution to knowledge, the research is practice-based.
If the research leads primarily to new understandings about practice, it is practice-led.

4 screen strategy & convergence
Tumblr media
Multimedia
single stories being told using different media, core narrative being supported by story elements spread across several types of media
The matrix is entertainment for the age of media convergence, integrating multiple texts to create a narrative so large that is cannot be contained within a single medium.
Tumblr media
A creative problem is how do you create a different experience across the different devices. The answer is unclear because it hasn't really been done before.
4 Screen strategy
Its a vision being pursued by the most to tech firms in the world.

Why Don’t Youth Vote? App Concept
Once we had decided on a current problem in today’s politics which is “why Don’t youth Vote?”. One main solution that could be applied to this issue is by using a dating style app such as tinder to quickly show the user policy’s that they would like to see be put in place. We decided to list a majority of current political issues.

Why Don’t Youth Vote?
I, Ewan and miles were put into groups based on the same interest in politics. We shared our views and concerns in today’s politics to gather an understanding of each other political standpoints. We brainstormed different ideas that we could possibly find a solution to, regarding politics.  One main issue which we all agreed on which is a massive concern in today politics is why isn’t the youth voting?
Next, we wrote down our main reason why the youth don’t vote. The points made were all accurate. This is probably due to the fact we are the youth and have an understanding of our peer group.
Tumblr media
With this issue decided upon we want to draw up the process of how we would go about possibly solving the issue.
Step 1 highlighting the problem
Step 2 Research and show evidence of the problem
Step 3 Explaining the problem/ breaking it down to its simplest form
Step 4 Research and show previous solutions/ Highlighting good and bad practices
Step 5: Present our solutions.

Digital Context Session 3 VR - 13.02.2018
Definition of Virtual Reality
The computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors.

Milgram’s reality-virtuality continuum
Tumblr media
The Virtuality Continuum is a phrase used to describe a concept that there is a continuous scale ranging between the completely virtual, a Virtual Reality, and the completely real: Reality
Elements of VR
Space
Speed/Movement
Sensory Containment
HUD/Interface
Proxemics is the study of human space and the effects that population density has on behaviour, communication, and social interaction.

The eye follows the direction of an element. It retains a visual impression which then collides with the impression derived from following the direction of a second element. The conflict between these directions created the dynamic effect in the apprehension of the whole.

virtual reality is revolutionising medicine and healthcare
Virtual reality is a piece of current technology which is a possible solution to help reduce the strain and cost of the medical field.  Studies which have already taken place show that it could be very effective and promising.  I’ve listed some examples below.
Exposure therapy
One treatment for patients with phobias is exposure therapy. In one instance, psychiatrists at the University of Louisville are using VR to help patients deal with fears of things like flying and claustrophobia.
The VR experiences provide for a controlled environment in which patients can face their fears and even practice coping strategies, as well as breaking patterns of avoidance — all while in a setting that's private, safe, and easily stopped or repeated, depending on the circumstances.
Treatment for PTSD
Similar to exposure therapy for phobias and anxieties, virtual reality is being put to use to help soldiers with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
More recently, clinics and hospitals are using virtual reality simulations of warfare akin to Iraq and Afghanistan to help veterans who are, in many ways, continually reliving the traumatic events they experienced. In a safe and controlled environment, they can learn how to deal with instances that might otherwise be triggers to behavior that could be destructive to themselves and others.
Surgical training
Virtual reality could provide another means of practice, without any risk to real patients.Stanford University, for one, has a surgery simulator that even includes haptic feedback for those doing the training. Stanford's endoscopic sinus surgery simulation uses CT scans from patients to create 3D models for practice, and it's been in use since 2002. While this technology doesn't use a head mounted display, the groundwork that's been done could further the effectiveness of future virtual simulations.

Digital Contexts Brief
In this module, the main aim of the project assessment will involve students working on a small scale technology-based application of a set project brief. This will be carried out under supervision. Themes to explore include: Health,Education(primary/secondary/HE),training,politics,art,entertainment, warfare etc... I will be assessed on a technical level( choice of technology, and level of utilization/implementation) as well as a creative level ( choice and justification of concept.
