I found a cross stitch of an older worlde map at second hand, completely new still in plastic. Opening it up I went oups maybe above my level... but! Shame on someone who surrender! As we say in my language ;3 (the blue running stitch sections it up in quarters so it was. Way bigger. Than I imagined. SO MANY STITCHWS o.o)

Another thick squish yarn :'3 I think that'll be my thing for a while, because oh my. SQUISH SQUISH. This ended up way more felted than I meant to, but fluff drying with hair dryer and bring carefully separating strands as they were almost dry but still felted almost together... it sproinged back pretty well all things considered ♡
The roving was so pretty~ didn't have intentions yet somehow it slunk into the order 🤔 Merino and recycled sari silk, and some sort of very few golden nylon strands.

THE SQUISH!

Singles and plying. Halfway through I realised I wanted solid colour single, to really let the colours be blobs of COLOUR againt black like the roving made me imagine. Had I plyed it with itself it'd have been. So much colour. Ordered more of the black that was in the roving, and then a mallard duck green I hoped would match up well, and it did :'3
I had a useless assistant as always.

This is a not super well made drop spindle, but hopefully well enough :3
Tumblr media
When u r the type that prefer flitting between fibres to not be bored with only the same for ages, plus plying. Then there is a need of more spindles. Buuuut, I have budget and inconvenient country, also I'd prefer put money toward fibre rather than more spinning tools when I already technically had three, plus possibly a wheel if I can get it into working condition...
so, yeah
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried make a few whorls the other week in polymer clay. I can't elever just how hard it was to have them even weight! X'D This was the most even one, and I went for repurposed cheap paint brush shaft, a hook from the curtain kit in the basement, and a little tape and paper because the hole was slightly wider than useful. I'll (probably) attach it proper in the future if I find it nice to spin.
29 grams, and works decent as of yet.
Fibre a limited edition blend from a little sheepish art, 'sheepish sockerlönn' merino, sari silk, and trilobal nylon

In parts! And look how deep the dirt goes, gotta sandpaper to get rid of it, and take antihistamines before starting because I break out in hives from old dust 8)
make sure to put treatment on your raw wooden surfaces people, because u just cannot wash it off once it begun get dirty for real <.<
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at the burly wood grain here! :'D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Decided on a wax treatment I got a very old tin of, which I quite love BUT dawngit the amount of polishing intensely it needs to get a good surface is horrible t.t but! Look at shinein several places now! (....I can also polish some after I begun use it instead of all before, I'm kinda thinking x'D)

When the (shitty because no wasting the good stuff on possible fail tool xp) wool ended up mostly breakage, I tried ply it. I mean, doesn't look too bad for first try on unfamiliar wheel, with uneven meat breed sheep's wool, for an amateur. Buuuuut. I rarely got more than 1-3 turns on the wheel before it just stopped or turned. I simply don't have a clue if crank-footman-treadle is a good fit and I don't get the motion, or if one or the other of it need adjustments or rebuild, or worst case it was simply not built in a way that can give a good smooth spin.
It is so frustrating x'p and a subject I still have hard time find information and troubleshooting on <.>
I uh...
Well, u see.
At the second hand. Three times and it was still there.
Tumblr media
So I. Bought it x3 I once had a tower kromski, but because size and time and toddler and suchlike, I lent it to a friend, who years later bought it for a very good offer.
Bow I begun spin again and sure, spindles are lovely, and with still cats, and apartment lack of space, and money. Ive thought naaah. Well.
This someone has built at home, and it is tiny (look at me cat in front x'D), so cute! Likely aspen wood. Untreated wood stored at some attic or barn for long enough it'll need sandpapering to get rid of how deep the dusty dirty have gotten. The treDle need new fastenings. I don't know if I'll enjoy the spin of it, but for the equivalent of 11euro. I decided I'll give it a chance :')
Now I'll have to fix the treadle and research how the... turn the wheel rope??? Drivrem x3 is supposed to be fixed, so that I can try it out before I give it a complete makeover :') and before I give it a name.

*squints* so. Hm. It can kinda works. It does spin, only, it often turn the other way, doesn't turn the full round. On the oooooothee hand. I need fasten better to see if it helps x'p the treadle _did_ start out on the middle... I'll try to find some straps intestead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Any suggestions on sources for how treadle - footman - crank can be adjusted to function the best or designed if i need make a new of any of it is very welcome t.t

IT'S SO FLUFFY!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those times when u can't quite understand you made this yourself. With your own hands. I wanted to try proper thicc yarn, and fluffy, and lofty, and all things not the thinner too hard yarns I made since I picked up spinning again (and tbh I kinda made back when I spun more, too). So. I'm so stupidly proud of this?? Look! That's just 77grams yet it is a great big chunk of a skein! Good going, me :') (62.25m, so, ~81m/100g)
One of those where I just cannot catch the colours with my shitty phone camera. Very rough brown once badly felted brown wool, torn apart and carded with leftovers of other stuff.
Post soaking and whacking and didn't have patience so I blowdried it, it's not quite as thick, but way more even and still so bouncy. I'm squishing it. A lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I almost can't knit it now. It is more soft than I thought the main wool had any capacity for. Rough, but not like a kitchen scrubber anymore. I mean to just knit a rug/blanket for the cats to sleep on, but now I don't know :p

Albert wants the wool and threads. Very much, ok.
Very rough wool mixed carded with scraps. I'll try to chain ply into lofty scratchy wiry harsh stuff, and then knit a small rug/blanket for the cats. Especially Albert will absolutely love to claw at it x'p
Getting some meterage excersise in before I get to the more fancy wool. I'm quite rusty, 8 years without spinning does that to you, and foe a few years there I had a wheel so not super well balanced spindle isn't quite the same x3
....very very scratchy wiry wool xp it is from failed felting, it only halfway stuck together no matter what I did, I think (because that was over a decade ago what is time) and was possible to tease apart and card again. Not greatly, but possible. Proper roving will hopefully be a pure delight after this. Although, the stakes are v low, as long as I can knit with this I'm not too bothered, after all.

Wool from the Swedish Hälsingefår (sheep from Hälsingland) I've had in a box for ages and ages since I got a handful randomly visiting a barn store that sold cheese made from their milk.
It isn't cut for spinning, and very far out of my knowledge how to handle. But. Well. The cats want to eat it. I tried the longer rougher part of the fleece on my spinning hook (any knowledge if it is named otherwise in english is very welcome, somehow translations of craft terms so old you can barely find them in your own languages are quite hard to find). It went... so so x'D

I spent some of my bdaymoney. On wool. And wool blends. I'm hoping to get back into using my spindle a fair bit more this year, considering I actially picked it up and had fun this autumn Now my decade old wool stash is almost out, there wasn't much left of it and I am bot too fond of most of it tbh x'D
...I just wish some pretty spindles weren't so ducking expensive. I want smth more elaborate and also more well balanced. And a few options. Where I live, even online, there isn't much to choose from that doesn't get expensive enough I can do with my one decent and two homemade not quite as balanced as one would like ones.
Money. It might not buy happiness, but it can buy quite pretty craft supplies and tools :')
