in the year 1825 at the start of auradon’s social season, the crown princess makes a royal decree that the children of the banished villains shall be free from their imprisonment to start lives in auradon, away from the influence of their parents. it’s set to be auradon’s most scandalous season yet, with wild events and hushed rumors of coups and revolution making its way around court, along with the controversial new arrivals. as the season roles on its a question of where you belong; are you enchanted by the hazy romanticism of a ball, enthralled by the political talks at the garden party, or part of something much more sinister lurking in the shadows of auradon that threatens its uncertain future?how will your story end?

MAY 29TH, 1825 — It’s a gorgeous, somewhat cloudy day in Westerly; the sun breaking through the clouds and shimmering on the tepid waters of the Audratic Sea. The masses have congregated from the opulent city of Corona down to the southern beaches of Tangleton. All along its sandy shores they’ve set up tents and laid down blankets, spectators eagerly staking out the perfect vantage point to watch the annual Corona Regatta. Tall towers stand here and there, dotting along the course, from which well dressed race officials set up spyglasses and horns so they may loudly keep the spectators updated on the race as it unfolds in the waters before them.
You are standing in a line, sharing excited smiles with your four teammates. The five of you will comprise one of ten boats that will soon line up in the water and eagerly await the pistol shot signaling the start of this year’s race. When you reach a desk at the very front of a rather large tent by the southern Tangleton Docks, you are assigned a number by a race official, a number which will be painted upon the shell your team is to use. But before you can climb into your boat and begin the race, you and the other competitors are shuffled into the tent as another official begins to explain the rules of sportsmanship and what obstacles you may run into on the water...
Welcome to DHQ’s First Mini-Game Event: The Coronan Regatta
As mentioned in the event post and our discord, day four of the Coronan Lantern festival revolves around a boat race taking place in the waters just south of the city. Under the cut you will be able to preview the route and learn about how this mini event will be played out. There are still boats which are open for captains and teams, so please reach out to Admin Reese to discuss participation.
Without further ado, Let’s break down the game:
THE ROUTE

As shown in the info graphic above, the regatta begins just south of Old Corona and follows along the shore and then northeastward towards the southern end of Corona City. All ten boats will line up at the staring line and begin racing their way along the shore towards the finish line. The route is marked off in eight sections known as Legs. Each Leg will be detailed in an individual post on the main, showcasing the order of the boats and any obstacles that crews may run into along the way. Winners of the race are gifted gold medals bearing the Coronan Sun Crest on them, with second getting silver medals and third getting bronze.
THE BOATS
As explained in the discord, each shell, or boat, is a coxed four. This means that there are five members to a single shell — four rowers and a coxswain — with each rower using a sweep oar. The Coxswain is a unique position in that they sit at the far back of the boat with an eye on the course. They physically steer the boat while also shouting out commands to the rowers to navigate them to victory. Rowers are split into four positions, or seats. The seat before the coxwain is The Stroke; they are the hardest working rower in the crew and set the pace and rhythm for the other oarsmen. Following them is Seat Three, who acts as their primary support and follow the stroke’s set rhytm perfectly for the remaining seats to follow. Next is Seat Two; typically the least experienced seat and the support for the bow seat. And finally is The Bow, who keeps the boat balanced. If all rowers work in tandem, then they can propel their boat further and faster than the rest.

Captain of a boat can be any position, be it any of the four rowers or the coxswain.
THE MECHANICS OF THE GAME
Each ‘round’, or leg, of the game is done via its own post on the main. Each round is split into about 3 to 4 "moves”, with results determined by dice.
First Move: each boat has been assigned a d10 (color/assigned dice will be shared once each boat either is full or has a captain). at the start of the first move, the admin will roll the d10 for each boat. the result will then be used to determine their starting placement in the race. see the example image below for visual (which will be attached to each move for each leg):

Following the roll, boats are moved according to the result. Note that multiple boats can end up with the same result, they are simply rowing side by side.
Second Move: now that the boats have taken off, the admin will then roll a d6 for each boat to determine if any of them run into a “hazard”, some sort of obstacle which may hinder their advancement. if the result of the roll is an even number, the boat is safe and will continue to progress with an advantage on the next placement roll (next time we roll a d10). if the result of a roll is an odd number, the boat has run into a hazard and their next placement roll will now be at disadvantage. there are 6 possible hazards a boat can run into, and the one they run into will be determined via another d6 roll. The potential hazards are as follows:
Seagulls — a flock of seagulls floats too far south and causes vision issues for the coxswain
Hidden Rock — a rock sticks up just barely above the waves and goes unnoticed by the coxswain until a little too late
Howling Breeze — a mischievous fast-flying talent never pixie is seen buzzing about, causing tumultuous winds and breezes opposing the course
Unexpected Whirlpool — a magical whirlpool has suddenly begun in otherwise tepid waters and you’re stuck in its current
Canon Ball — on a raft floating along course, Shorty of the Pub Thugs drunkenly shoots canon balls at unsuspecting boats and you’ve become his new target
Blazing Sun — a break in the clouds reveals a merciless sun which blinds the entire team
hazards will be marked on the boats which failed the hazard roll and means that when the round ends and we roll to see where the boats ended this particular leg, they will roll a disadvantage. during the first round of play we will instantly follow this with that second placement roll.

For the example, this is how the leg finished after rolling disadvantages for hazards. Note that while a disadvantage will hinder the boat’s progression, it doesn’t necessarily mean than they can’t advance further. Luck can still be on the boat’s side.

Third Move: in some rounds, boats will also roll on potentially bad outcomes. this happens if a boat suffers two hazards in a row; meaning that in two consecutive legs they roll odd numbers on hazards and end up with an obstacle to overcome. when this happens, the boat must also roll a d4. with this roll there are 4 potential outcomes, 3 of which will instantly propel the boat towards the back of the line (or even in immediately in last place) and one of which may free them from difficulties and allow them advantage of the final placement roll. the outcomes are as follows:
Breeze Boost — if you roll a 1, the shell overcomes its handicaps and gets a timely boost from a sea breeze, no longer at disadvantage
Stuck Oar — if you roll a 2, the oars on one side of the shell get caught on something beneath the water; your boat drops down two places in the running
Man Overboard — if you roll a 3, one member in the team is flung off the shell, and others must rescue them; this is an instant drop to second to last place
Capsize ☠️ — if you roll a 4, your shell turns over completely, dropping the entire team into the water; an instant drop to last place
The visual below expresses when a bad outcome takes place:

(in case you cannot see: the upside down blue ship at the very end is “capsized”, the gold ship turned over to the right is “man overboard” and the gray ship flipped to the left is “oars stuck”. their positions have moved according to their outcomes)
Fourth Move: after all hazards and outcomes are presented, the final move of the round will be to have every boat roll again based on if they have advantage and/or disadvantage (with the exception of any boat which had outcomes 2-4) to determine where they ended the leg at. this placement determination will then begin the next leg of the race.
The overall process will be repeated for each leg of the race in 8 individual posts explaining what happened and showing where the boats are along the course.
While the event isn’t exactly “roleplayed” you may create threads to respond as the regatta updates are posted, and you may also reference what happened in threads taking place following the regatta. It’s highly encouraged everyone take part, so if after reading this post you would like a chance to be involved in the regatta please reach out to Admin Reese via discord so you can take part! We would like to start using the mechanic and posting the legs on the main starting tomorrow in junction with the shift to days four and five of the event.
As always, reach out if you have any questions, and happy roleplaying!

Do you hear that, dear readers? No, it’s not the wild scribbling of this writers pen. It’s the sound of dozen’s of carriages being pulled down cobblestone streets to the costal town of Old Corona. It’s that time of year once again. Rapunzel herself is celebrating another year around the sun, and all of Corona is ready and waiting to send off hundreds of lanterns into the sky. And like always, the week long celebrating - a bit much, even for me - will conclude with a ball.
I am not sure about all of you, but this writer is absolutely delighted at the idea of all the mischief and scandal that might occur during this week. After all, we remember what transpired during Mad Day, correct? Or perhaps we could all use a refresher as to what the nobles of Auradon have gotten up to in the past month?
Lord August Fitzherbert has officially returned from his time away. If you can recall, he was last seen abruptly leaving the Faerie Bacchanal with a solemn expression. It has still yet to be said what caused such an exit, but we’re confident it had something to do with Miss Theodora Le Bouff. She was the last person to speak to the Lord. But he was not the last person she spoke to. No, that was Mr. Damien Gothel. Miss Le Bouff seemed to be smiling and laughing at everything word exchanged with him throughout the night.
Other shocking displays we witness was not one, but two incredibly public kisses. Scandelous, is the only word that suits such situations. One was shared between an engaged pair, Lord Phineas Charming and his fiancé Miss Sonya Sudayev. The other, was a not so publicly entangled couple. Miss Sabine Facilier and Mr. Marcelo Clayton. Once again this author asks, what is the courting ritual like within The Shadow Realm.
Lord Eadric Pendragon grew very close, both physically and emotionally, to Miss Li Yue, and to no one’s surprise - especially this writers - the two announced a courtship close thereafter. Love was in the air for so many it seemed. Because after emerging later in the evening sopping wet, both Lark Andersen and Lady Gwendolyn Andersen nee Dallben, quickly announced their engagement. This writer still speculates the marriage was quite quick for a love match, but their families insist the two have been enthralled with each other since childhood.
For the rest of the Bacchanal, most of the Ton was experiencing all that enchanted faerie food has to offer, thanks to the High Prince of the Faerie Court himself, Sevastyan Petit. He claims it was all in good fun, but this author is not so sure. After all, what would cause the prince and his courtier, Silverbell of Neverland, to have such a public disagreement that caused to two to have a second, very public disagreement at the wedding of Lord and Lady Andersen?
But enough speculation, and enough about Mad Day. What else has been occurring within Auradon in the past weeks? Well, Lord Citrouille has been entertaining a handful of women. His distant cousin, Miss Lydia Tremaine was seen leaving his office. Perhaps to make amends, or could there be something more devious there? He and Lady Drusilla White-Prince have also been seen a handful of times together. Once at the university library, and again at the Andersen wedding, talking in private. Could a possible courtship be on the horizon? What we find most confusing is that Lord Citrouille was seen leaving Miss Teddy Le Bouff’s house on one occasion, and this writer was under the impression that they did not get on well. Or... is that all a cover?
What this writer finds to be the most shocking and intriguing information of that night is that the daughter of Maleficent and the daughter of sleeping beauty, Miss Faerilyth Moor and Lady Briar Rose Basille, were spotted chatting in the courtyard. And even more interesting, she escorted the daughter of Sleeping Beauty home that night.
We will give a reporting on the interactions within the week. But until then, this writer will be enjoying the warm sun in Old Corona. Be on your best behavior, Auradon, or your worst. We will be here to see it all.

The carriage shook and creaked along the old cobbled path cutting through the forest.
You’re brushing elbows with either your family, peers, or fellow Shadowborn, dependent upon who you’re traveling with. It’s a long ride — approximately 8 hours with the fastest horse drawn carriage — and you’ve been at it for a long while now. There’s a throbbing in your temple from the way the coach jostled and jumped over some of the rocky roads. The promise of delicious food, a refreshing drink, and southern sea breezes makes the rough ride worth it. At least you hope so. From out your window all you can see is thick, dense woods and sometimes you wonder if a dark spire among the evergreens is actually the tower where Rapunzel was held captive for the first 18 years of her life. You can’t be sure you’re even in Corona yet, let alone Westerlyshire. You shiver at the thought you might have seen the crumbling structure in the distance.
When you tumble into Tangleton, or Old Corona, you almost don’t realize you’re in an inhabited village. It’s quaint and old in the way that the eastern district of Auradon City is, yes, though it feels different with houses dating back to the Dark Ages situated around a small town square where a wooden pavilion stands. Even its villagers, in their neutral colored drab clothes, feel like they’re from another time, looking nothing like the citizens that call Auradon City home. If it weren’t for the violet and yellow flags adorning every building, you may not have believed you were in the Earldom of Corona. But then you see that golden sun symbol and know that you’ve arrived. At least part of the way. This is, for now, the farthest the Shadowborn go; with their carriages stopping just outside a large pub and inn on the edge of town, nestled beneath the thick green canopy of trees. Its wooden painted sign is worn, but there’s no mistaking that yellow duckling. The Snuggly Duckling; with twenty rooms prepared to house the visitors for the festival, Shadowborn rooming in the same assignments as back in Auradon City and four chaperones housed at either end of the hallway to keep them in check. As soon as they’re settled into their temporary new boarding home, the Shadowborn are piled back into their coaches and taken the rest of the way to the bridge and the opulent city on the sea.
It shimmers like the sunlight on the waves, large and magnificent. It could almost rival the Auradon Royal Palace, though it’s not as grand. Before it is a large city, built to the edges of the island so that no corner of it was left uninhabited, and full of colorful houses in shades of purples, pinks, yellows and blues. There are lines of sun flags dangling off every building, zig zagging across the streets, square and alleys. Every window bears a basket of bright flowers, and the cobbled walk up to the castle is adorned in gorgeous intricate chalk drawings depicting the vibrant culture and history of this part of the country. People are positively everywhere, dancing and singing and laughing and conversing loudly together, soaking in the merriment and the warm sun of a late May Day. It’s positively gorgeous — sunny, hot weather with a light breeze rolling off the water to cool you. The perfect day to be outside and wander the enchanting city.
The nobles are taken all the way up to the castle where rooms have been prepared for each of them, dozens upon dozens of footmen and butlers prepared to wait upon the visiting society members. It isn’t until they are all settled that palace footmen lead them back down the colorful walkways to the square where everyone is congregating for the start of the festival. From close to the castle gates, high up on a hill, you cup a hand over your eyes to shield the burning sunlight and can see what appears to be a line of intricate horse drawn floats inching across the bridge, preparing to make their way up the main path through the city and to the castle grounds. You’re hustled onto the side of the road, and handed a violet flag bearing the crest of Corona by a smiling girl with flowers in her hair, barely given a moment to thank her before your neighbor bumps shoulders with you and says, “What will you be putting on your lantern come Friday night? The dream you want to see come true, I mean,” striking up casual conversation as you await with bated breath for the parade to make its way up to you, signaling the beginning of an exciting week in the Westerly sun.
And At Last I See the Light….
I’m so elated to (re)announce our third group wide and official reopening event for DisenchantedHQ: The Coronan Lantern Festival. This is a unique event in that it takes place in universe over the course of five days, starting in universe on Wednesday May 26th, 1825 through to Sunday May 30th, 1825, with Friday May 28th being the main event of releasing the lanterns for the Countess of Corona’s birthday. The event is stylized as a multi-day festival with plenty of activities going on day by day, including some unique mini events. Activities are inspired by Rapunzel’s hobbies featured in the soundtrack, as well as the things seen in the film. Daily activities include: shops and feasting in the plaza, painting in the square, braiding hair, dancing etc. But each day will feature a unique event that you can utilize in interactions, with most allowing the inclusion of visitors and citizens to participate. The Schedule is as follows:
May 26th: Parade organized by the citizens, featuring decorated horse drawn carriages depicting Coronan culture and history, including at least one depicting the kidnapping and return of Rapunzel and the Sea Battle during the Cauldron War, a Chalk Walk all along the path up to the castle, with both citizens and visitors being allowed to decorate the ground, and an Artist Alley / Gallery Walk featuring works by Rapunzel and artists across the country, as well as stands with blank canvases for undiscovered talent.
May 27th: a Variety Show featuring acts such as ventriloquism, comedy troupes, local musicians, poetry reading, and miming as examples organized by the citizens of Corona, done in the evening. Several of Lady Corona’s Ruffian friends often highlight the show, and there is a sign up for any out of state visitors to also participate. The Coronans love seeing their neighbors’ skills after all, and it isn’t a surprise to see accomplished vocalists like Lady Tirulia or Madame de la Grande Bouche perform as well.
May 28th: Rapunzel’s Birthday and the main traditional event, on this day the citizens and visitors make their lanterns, writing their most desired dreams and wishes on the lantern lining, and release them into the sky after sunset when the sky goes dark. The Earl and Countess will release their lantern first followed by the citizens. During the day there is a feast with tables set up all along the palace courtyard and square, with the noble house joining in the outdoor feasting, as well as a dance in the town square wherein the Kingdom Dance is usually performed.
May 29th: A Regatta is held in the water surrounding the territory. The start of the race is off the southern coast of Tangleton, following along the coast up to the Floating City’s southern docks where the race ends. Boats are comprised of five: four rowers and one coxswain, and there are typically ten total shells in the race. The reigning champions are the Ruffians of The Snuggly Duckling. It is sometimes considered a preliminary for the Camelot Games Regatta. In the evening an outdoor stage is set up in the town square where a staging of “The Lost Princess and the Sun Drop Flower”, a play based on Rapunzel’s life, is to be held. And the perfect time for some secret nefarious dealings to take place.
May 30th: And Finally, on Sunday evening there is to be held a Grand Closing Feast in the castle’s dining hall followed by a Ball held in the honor of Countess Rapunzel Fitzherbert of Corona in the grand ballroom. The Ball is open to everyone to attend, though it is mainly attended by the Auradonian society members who are visiting for the festival. The Ball will feature music by the concert pianist Hook Hand. As it is a rather modern territory, the featured dance of the night is typically the very new — and somewhat scandalous — waltz.
And now that that’s been highlighted, it’s time to make the announcement you’ve all been looking forward to. The official reopening date of DisenchantedHQ will be Sunday March 20th, 2022. With the event being divided into multiple days, we will also split the roleplaying into multiple days. Typically our events take place over the course of two irl weeks to write out. We’ll continue this practice for our opening, with the following schedule for when you can write within the aforementioned dates/activities:
Days one and two of the festival (May 26/27) can be written out starting Sunday March 20th through to Tuesday the 22nd, with Sunday and Monday being the days where you can only write starters taking place during the first two days of the event. On Tuesday the 22nd it’s encouraged that you wrap up those threads as starting then until Friday the 25th you can begin writing starters taking place on May 28th, Rapunzel’s Birthday, namely the Lantern Releasing. The Regatta, which will be done via post on the main, will go up Friday the 25th, and the Ballet event will likewise be mentioned in the post as these are not exactly roleplayable events. That being said, your characters — who can and should absolutely participate in the regatta!! — can talk about these events following their posting on the main. As far as participation in the regatta, you’ll have until the 24th to come up with your list of teams and positions and submit them to the main so they can be mentioned in the post. Winning boats will be chosen at random. The Ball then will be roleplayable starting Saturday the 26th through to Sunday the 3rd of April, leaving a full week to play out the conclusion of the event.
Following this event we will have a Society Round Up by none other than Lady Chattermore so as always, please give a summary of any notable events by April 7th so we can get the gossip rag posted.
Starting from 12:00am EST on Sunday March 20th through to 11:59pm PST on April 3rd, you can officially begin roleplaying for the event according to the schedule above, but feel free to start plotting out interactions starting now! Just please be sure to follow that schedule when it comes to posting your threads and headline your threads with a time stamp for when they happened. (example: WHEN: MAY 26th, 1825; FIRST DAY OF CORONAN LANTERN FESTIVAL at the top of your post) A post will go up either on the main or in the server at the start of each day when we move onto the next part of the roleplayable event to help you know when you can move into other activities etc.
As always — reach out with any questions you may have and happy roleplaying!
