I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

This is so full of emotion, and every frame is composed so thoughtfully. The parallels and the passing of time in the first half, and then those fragments of memories of Yvienne's former village life – of a different life altogether – and all that she had to leave behind what must feel like ages ago. Thank you for drawing this beautiful set and sharing!
Yvienne's relationship to her mother has always been a point of interest to me, what with how strongly the latter was characterized at the beginning, and her general no-nonsense attitude (some of which was passed down to her daughter) and down-to-earth responses in flashbacks as Yvienne struggled with existential despair. In a way, it feels like she couldn't understand her daughter; at the same time, she was wise enough to see the danger of all those shadows, and attempted to stave them off, as if hoping that by raising her daughter pragmatically, those questions without answers would eventually fade away and not keep Yvienne from attaining happiness.
You mention how young Yvienne was when her world shattered, and I think about how young Yvienne was both times she had to leave behind the world(s) she had known up to that point. Looking at your image set makes me wonder: If Yvienne felt less disconnected from everything and everyone, if the pragmatic anchors her mother had tried to install actually managed to stay in place, would she have been able to bear all the grief in a better way?
Also, while leafing through my volumes to find the correct spelling for Yvienne's father's name, I stumbled upon a scene in volume 3 that I had forgotten: Yvienne, tucked away in bed after January's proposal, thinks that she would love to introduce her mother to January (specifically due to her mother's role next to her father's side), and longs for the strong woman who raised her – the very woman who she used to hope would save her.
Anyway, her father's name was translated as Euge Eyne in the official German translation. I believe her mother's name was never mentioned.
Edit: Her mother's name is revealed to be Teresa in volume 8.

Mẹ ơi con đã già rồi | con ngồi nhớ mẹ khóc như trẻ con Oh mom, I am old now. Missing you, I sit here sobbing like a child.
Mẹ ơi con đã già rồi | con ngồi ngớ ngẩn nhớ ngôi nhà xưa Oh mom, I am old now. Foolishly, I reminisce about our family home.
Ngày xưa cha ngồi uống rượu, | mẹ ngồi đan áo. Then, dad would drink while you knit a sweater.
Ngoài kia, mùa Đông | cây bàng lá đổ. In the winter outside, tropical almonds shed their leaves.

LYRICSTUCK FOR CTLAS!!!!!!
(here's the song, literally I just drew the 1st verse)
youtube
Artist's rambling below:
I FUCKEN LOVE THIS SONG!!! been itching to find a thing that fits it for so long, then Ctlas angst hit like a truck 👍
Translation is homemade, so it's bad because can't resist going word for word. But that's ok it's a beautiful song about mourning your mother, music can transcend the rest.
This was all conceptualized, executed, and completed in a night, like 5hrs straight. I don't know how i did it tbh
Don't know if come morning i'll have the art god's blessing to have more ideas to draw till the chorus, but i want to
We all love the ships in this story, but i can't help but think on the fact that she was just a teenager when her entire world shattered and is forced to flee from all that she knew. Did she miss her mom?
