The video of In Spite Of Ourselvea is reminiscent of Leftover Crack Rock the 40oz which is justthe band just in front of a green screen nothing spectacular but just conjures up memories supposedly Tankcrimes is to reissue Leftover Crack releases which I would love to see. I could go off on another tangent but now I am already listening to something different to the original post.

Irish Punk Database

Don’t use Tumblr that much, but thought would use it now as a place to work out ideas out loud and somewhere can go back to look over ideas as to keep them in check.  Have been working lots on a currently small project, but should be huge under taking as it comes together over years. I was recently(18 months ago) updating band profiles on Distro-y website to give some basic information, upcoming gig listing and links to buy records and with some members playing in a number of bands I started to link up the text of these bands so if someone was interested they could check them out. But most band members also played in a lot of other bands so I wanted to be to give some information on those bands also. This of course creates a timeline of bands that never really ends going back decades. So the idea is to turn it into an Irish punk database of bands giving streaming options and information on the bands. So as mentioned 18 months in the works it is exhausting sometimes, I will take notions and add a band or two to the database but it is slow. However with GGI coming up I want to catalogue all the bands playing at it as to create a profile so people could listen and find out a bit of info on each band. So hopefully this will provide some further information and jog memories. As we come out of Covid and gigs slow get back to normal and a scene is rebuilt the hope that creating foundations like this will help create more stability to help it grow bigger and better than before.

Entry from LA have a LP coming out on Southern Lord and it is brutally unforgiving hardcore, vocals are just gnarly. Entry have a familiar sound that reminds me of someone I cannot nail who they remind me of.

Helping to bring over Jungbluth in two weeks!!

Jungbluth Irish Tour

Distro-y Records has been helping Jungbluth from Germany, line up dates in Ireland for their Irish and UK tour. Jungbluth are set to play 4 shows in Ireland – Belfast, Dublin, Galway and Waterford this February. The tour will also feature Erfurt70 who feature members of Jungbluth.

Jungbluth are a three piece anti-fascist hardcore/punk band from Münster (Germany), named after German resistance fighter Karl Jungbluth who was executed by the Nazis in 1945. With their songs moving seamlessly between powerful, tough and pounding hardcore into a soundscape of post-rock. Definitely not one to be missed! Check their stuff out here:

Picked up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu last year, which I found to be a new love and would recommend everyone to attend a class near them to just learn a form of self defence as you never know what might be around the corner. BJJ has also help me shed a few pounds as well as I look to improve in it as an art!!

A write up I did on things I tried to do in 2015......

2015 Round Up/2016 Coming Up

Better late than never,  here is 2015 Round Up/2016 Coming Up. I had done a recapped of 2015 in The Parish Punk(the best thing to happen the Irish punk scene) issue 4 of things I had done but this is more of things I tried and failed to do and one or two things I did. 

For those wondering the posting in 2015 about DistrOi! is not a real thing where Distro-y is turning Oi! it was a play on word due to getting in a bunch of Oi! records by some quality bands Bishops Green, Crown Court…… 

2015 I tried to take the label on a different approach I had realised that distro had not really worked for Distro-y in the past as Distro-y is based in Sligo for those out of Ireland. Sligo is in the north west lovely place but to far from any actual punk scene to make a distro work. I also find it hard to go to gigs as it costs 30-50 euro on transport costs alone and I have 2 little boys and a third boy who arrived in 2015. So the previous basis of trading like my mad and getting anything I could was not work so less/smaller trading if any was the way forward. 

In the spring of 2015,  I tried to partner up with a record shop in Dublin on Sale Or Return basis in which Distro-y would stock and advertise a new home/punk section in a record shop in Ireland however after getting in a large quantity of records. I could not agree terms with the shop and things fell a part  leaving a small distro for Distro-y again which has been growing due to the support of some great customers who know who they are. I have ran this new distro on a sustainable basis by being highly organised for me, which has helped it to expand slightly over time.

I also tried to do a Distro-y Fest a one off gig full of Distro-y bands that also failed to take off but that was due to bad planning on my behalf and trying to plan to run a gig in Dublin while based in Sligo. Its something in the pipeline.

Anyway 2016 is here first release officially announced today,  OKUS - SCOURGE LP: http://distroyrecords.com/main/okus-to-release-new-lp-on-distro-y-records/ I have a few other releases lined up two more which need to go to press soon, and about at least 3 LPs I would be honored to take part in. Last year I tried to set a goal of a release pfft that was ambitiously silly.
