And pillow filler. I think a basic cotton stuffing works well here, but you can get crafty with cotton balls, feathers, or even any leftover scrap fabric you have lying around.

Step 1 [Cut Fabric into Shape]: The first step is to cut your fabric into your desired pillow’s shape. Fold your fabric in half, pattern-side in, and pin the sides together to keep them in place. Using a writing utensil, draw half of your shape. You can do any shape from a square to a heart to a star. I wanted to make a circle pillow, so I printed out a semi-circle template from the computer and traced it with my writing tool. Using your scissors, follow your markings to cut out your shape. Here’s where you can trim the fabric to your liking to make sure it’s exactly the right size and shape.

Step 2 [Create Identical Copy]: The next step is to create an identical copy that will be the back side of the pillow. Lay your cut out shape onto a new piece of fabric. You can once again outline your shape with your writing utensil or pin the layers together to keep everything in place. Either way, cut out your twin piece of fabric.  

Step 3: [Add Embellishments]: If you wanted to add in some decorative touches to your pillow, now would be the time. I created a sort of pocket and sewed it into the center of the pillow. This way I can slip in my new year’s resolutions or any type of goal, wish or dream into my pillow to sleep on at night. This is also fun for a decorative pillow to leave on the couch for your loved one to find as a surprise. For the other side, I decided to sew in a few pieces of cut out fabric… to create my own emoji face! This is the emoji I use most often on my Instagram whenever you all send me pictures of your crafts! You guys are just so talented! As far as decorating your own pillow goes, you could sew in anything from buttons to ribbon to sequins to your own fabric styles!

Step 4. [Create Pillow Strip]: Once you’ve finished decorating the front and back of your pillow, now’s the time to make the strip that will connect them together. Since this strip will work its way around the entire pillow, you’ll need to determine your pillow’s circumference. You can do this by following a measuring tool all the way around the outside of your fabric. If you find the length of your strip to be longer than the fabric you have on hand, you can always sew a few shorter strips together to create your piece. As far as the width of the strip goes, I think 2-4 inches is the perfect range. I cut my strip 4 inches wide, knowing that I might lose an inch or so off the width as I sew my pieces together.

Step 5: [Sew Most of Pillow]: Once you’ve got all your pieces, it’s time to sew them together. Start with front piece, pattern side down, sewing the backside of your pillow strip around its border using any basic stitch. I found the backstitch to work the best for me. Once you’re finished, do the exact same sewing technique with your back piece, again facing it wrong-side out. Take your time sewing here so that your pieces line up evenly and are stitched firmly together. As you’re finishing up, make sure to leave a few inch gap in your pillow’s fabric so that you can stuff the thing. Speaking of which, let’s stuff the thing!

Step 6: [Stuff The Pillow]: Carefully turn your pillow right-side-out by pulling your patterned side through the pillow’s gap. Then stuff your pillow with your cotton filler or other substitute until the fabric is perfectly taut.

Step 7: [Sew Rest of Pillow]: All that’s left to do is close that gap! Use your needle and thread to sew that final bit of space shut to lock everything in place.

And there we have it! Your own dream pillow at your service! This is such a fun and creative room décor DIY, as well as a great conversation starter. What a great way to make something that can help you make your dreams come true!

DIY Water Color Mug

How to make it: -Fill the bowl with warm water. -Add a drop of nail polish to the water and let it spread out. You can also use a skewer to swirl the color around a bit to give it the effect you'd like. -Dip your mug in the water. -You can use nail polish remover to remove any excess nail polish on the bottom and inside of the mug or sections that got messed up. -Carefully pat mug dry with paper towel. -You can repeat with additional colors if you want. -Once you've achieved the look you want, let it sit for at least two hours.

What you need: -White Ceramic Mug -Old or Disposable Bowl/Container -Nail Polish
