In case anyone has ever thought I'm uptight about manners, you should meet my co-workers.
Today one of my co-workers went into the bathroom after someone had gone #2 and it was stinky, and this person didn't use the spray. About three of my co-workers spent several minutes literally stomping their feet and shouting in anger about how rude and horrible it is to make a stinky #2 and not use the spray afterwards.
I can't imagine being so angry about a normal human bodily function. Like yeah I'll use the spray and if I walk into a bathroom and it smells I'll go "eugh" but then I get over it and carry on with my life. I can't imagine actually shouting and stomping my feet about it.
Which brings me to my point I wanted to make, which is that watching my co-workers shouting and stomping their feet for several minutes about such a small thing (forgetting to use spray after doing #2) brought forth an insecurity that, I really hope this blog doesn't encourage behaviors and attitudes like what I saw in my co-workers today. I don't want to make people more mean and judgemental, I don't want people to be mean and start policing people over small and generally insignificant things. I want people to be mindful and think of others, but that goes both ways. Both being mindful and thinking "hmm it's kinda smelly in here after doing my business, maybe I should use the spray" but also not shouting and stomping your feet in rage just because someone didn't. You're both humans, just think of each other.

the semantic drift of the term "liminal" genuinely pisses me off and i know its petty. LIMINAL IS A TRANSITIONAL STAGE BETWEEN TWO STATES- OR. IF WE WANT TO WIDEN THE BOUNDARY HERE. IT COULD BE ON THE VERY EDGE OF BECOMING SOMETHING ELSE. just because something is abandoned doesn't mean its liminal. in fact, that shopping mall was MORE liminal when it was dying off and shutting down outlets every month than it is 5 years later when the space is fully abandoned.

I think the only true conclusion one could ever draw about Sabrina carpenter from her music is that she has a kinda weird relationship with gender, where she can never truly decide if being a woman is a good & powerful thing or a bad & weakening thing, and she can never decide if that’s her own fault or the fault of the male society in which she lives. this is not a criticism to be clear: that seems like a very normal way to engage with the world to me. it’s just funny to me that the seemingly most personally revealing aspect of her music is the way she seems to have no idea how to live as a straight woman. I can’t relate to this at all because I am not a straight woman, but man does it seem accurate to the experiences of straight women that I know. Straight women sound off. If you’re out there. Straight women can you hear me? Is it that me espresso?

Entry level jobs haven't existed since the 2008 crash. 90% of hiring managers won't hire recent graduates. A quarter of job listings are ghost jobs. Companies hire part time so that they don't have to give benefits. Federal minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009. The True Unemployment Rate is 25%. Master's are the new bachelor's. For most the job search takes over a year. 75% of resumes are never. actually seen by the hiring team.

This is probably because I am Internet Old (41 years of age)
And because I grew up with message board/forum/blog/LJ culture...
but it seems like many younger people do not want to converse; that any response other than 'THIS' - anything that reflects, responds, adds, comments upon, etc a post is seen as adversarial/disagreement.
I'd love to have a conversation about this trend, especially as it relates to tumblr, which USED to be a much more conversational website than it currently is.
replies vs. reblogs definitely exacerbated this hugely; the tiktokification of 'person who creates content' and 'person who consumed that content' rather than 'human beings having a conversation'.

social media needs to add multiple tiers of blocking someone
I should be able to differentiate between "you seem perfectly nice but I do not enjoy seeing your posts," "you view the world through an ideological framework that I find flawed at best and repellent at worst," and, of course, "I Am Killing You With My Mind"

Look. Look I’m not reading as much fanfic as I used to.
But in case any young people out there need to hear this- it is very normal for gay people to just. take turns. For a lot of the stuff. That some of you. Seem to think are static, binariatic, opposing personality traits.

The ancient Romans probably did human sacrifice at some points in their history but also later in their history when most of their literature was being written they were super opposed to it and also sometimes they spread falsehoods about their enemies and hated foreigners to make them sound bad.
One of the more generic lies often told about people’s enemies was an assertion that they performed human sacrifice.
Sometimes it was true (looking at the Norse and Celts) but other times it’s not clear if they actually did so when an ancient Roman text says that a foreign people or political opponents do human sacrifice you should probably err on the side of assuming they didn’t do human sacrifice if there’s not also archeological evidence for this.
