Hello! We love that you have a long idea, but it is absolutely required to post a finished work. You are not allowed to post just one or a few chapters, as from your giftee’s perspective that is a partial gift. If you are unable to finish by the time of deadlines, there is no shame in defaulting and you could still gift the fic to them when it is ready.

It’s okay if you don’t have experience! As long as you create a finished product, you can join. It’s even okay to default if you end up not being able to finish. If you’re a writer, then I do recommend asking someone to beta-read your fic before submitting. (Assuming I’m understanding you correctly, not sure if you mean inexperienced with art/writing or just with exchanges.)

And yes, implied switching is fine, depending on your giftee. Make sure to include that in your tags for request and offer. And then when you get your assignment and your giftee’s tags don’t make it clear whether they like implied shipping, you can dm the mod team and we will check for you. 💚🧡

Okay I want to sign up, but I'm a little confused! Are we supposed to request/offer a specific story idea and include all the tags we want in a single story/want to write, or are we just supposed to list anything we are fine with getting/writing?

Hello there!! It’s the second.

For your request, all that’s required is the tags you want and your DNWs. Some people like providing more ideas than that but that is totally optional! Not all creators like a very detailed request description so there really is no problem in leaving it blank aside from DNWs.

For your offer, you don’t have to leave a thing besides tags if you don’t want to. We are trying out offer descriptions this round to see if it makes matching easier, so you can include topics that you can’t/won’t create in your description. But if you’re fine with anything than you can ignore it.

You might be able to find someone who has ao3 invites to share, usually someone who has been on ao3 for a long time.

But if not, for this round you could do treats or punch hits.

For treats, all request signups are visible for browsing. You could pick any of those you like or a friend, and create art for them, and submit it to the collection as a gift to the person.

For pinch hits, that’s when we reassign all dropped assignments in the last week. We assign those via discord, so you’d need to join the discord server, but it’s a great way to participate if you need to join late.

Hi there! It won’t let me submit with my tags? Maybe because they’re canon tags? But I know the post said that was allowed! Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I can add canon tags to the Optional Tags sections but not the mandatory tags sections.

I just checked the ao3 rules/faq and canon tags need to be in the optional tags. Only tags from the tagset are allowed in the mandatory tag section.

If any of the canon tags are particularly dear to you, maybe draw attention to them in your description?
