2020 – A Year of Covid-19 Pandemics

Kuai – Kandazon, Penampang , Friday, 8th May 2020 – It’s been almost 2 months since the MCO (2020 Malaysian Movement Control Order) was enforced on 18th March 2020; a preventive measure by the Federal Government of Malaysia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. If there’s no more extension of the MCO, Penampang and Sabah state is scheduled to be on “lockdown” till 12th May 2020.

Like other places around the globe, Kuai-Kandazon village undergone quite challenging experiences during the lockdown period which prohibits movements and mass assembly nationwide, including religious, sports, social and cultural activities. Industries are closed except for infrastructure services, supermarkets, wet markets, grocery stores and multi-functional stores selling daily necessities.

Since then, this village has been quiet; silent without the sound of vehicles and people’s movements on the main road Ramayah – Putatan. Weather on the first 2 months during lockdown has been the hottest till 2 weeks ago when the raindrops showered the whole village. Now the beautiful blue sky is here again but we can’t go out to the green rice fields or to the nearby Moyog river to capture the scene. Fortunately, we got our drone just before MCO and these are some of the village aerial views captured during lockdown.

Landscape Undergone Great Changing

Looking at it, it seems Kuai-Kandazon landscape has undergone great changes but sadly didn’t record them earlier (due to our constant travelling schedules). However, still hopeful that these images will be useful for the generations to come.

  Stay Home and Stay Safe 

It’s the 2nd week of May. Supposedly, we have gathered with our friends and relatives for Kaamatan celebration. Can’t gather for the festival this year but hope our “harvest” will always be prosperous.  #KotobianTadauKaamatan  #StayHome  #StaySafe.

RED MOON (KUAI VILLAGE, PENAMPANG 2018) . The last image [Pic 1/8] was captured around 6:00 am, my last click of the Nikon before climbed down from the rooftop of our house. Even after it set at the west, it was still seen obviously in red color, just like the image of a sunset. . Woke up at 2:00 am and started recording the rare phenomenon together with millions of people throughout the world who witnessed how the Blood Moon eclipsed this morning. . Happy Harvest Festival 2018 (Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Ka'amatan 2018) . It's 30th May, 2nd last day of the one month annual Harvest Festival Celebration throughout the Land Below The Wind (Sabah). Landed home again yesterday and haven't stepp into the KDCA (Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association) ground but glad to have these pictures with our indigenous Kadazan traditional costume captured while on traveling in overseas during the whole month of May. The 1st picture was taken last Saturday (26th May) at St. Gregory's RC Church, Smethwick Birmingham UK and the rest were taken at St Peter Basilica, Vatican City Rome on 1st May 2018 (the day when State Harvest Festival 2018 was launched in Keningau, Sabah). . The celebration is gonna have its peak / climax this two days, 30th and 31st May, a statewide public holiday at KDCA. Mount Fuji, 46-47 Bullring Shopping Centre - Birmingham UK . It gonna be exactly 3 month in the UK this Sunday (tomorrow), woke up quite early but only got out to the city at noon for brunch with my daughter. She ordered her favorite meal, the Chicken Tariyaki and Chicken Karaage with steam rice.Tried it once and immediately became my favorite too. A steps away from here is the Yakinori (1st Floor, Grand Central, New Street Station). Have been in and out to that train station food store for the Chicken Katsu Curry, one of my favorite Asian food while in the big city for the past 3 month.
