I read some Business Insider or some other such article about buying a car if you make in the range of $45-65K, and they were giving advice for buying a $30K car. Like, this is intended to be offense-neutral, but why in the fuck would you ever buy a car that is worth ¾ of your annual income? What is wrong with people? Why does this “advice” keep going out into the world, convincing dumb fucking Americans that they can go into as much debt as they want and it’s no big deal! Why

So uhh today I was chastised by my sociology professor when I said that FGM and child marriage are inherently wrong and constitute human rights violations regardless of where/why they’re practiced. He said I “can’t think like that” and that I wasn’t using the sociological perspective of cultural relativism. I’m amazed that I managed to stop myself from screaming, but somehow I did and now my blood’s just been quietly boiling all day instead. Okay yeah it is but they have a point, unless you are physically putting paint on canvas and sending them a painting or a sculpture then most of the time no commission is worth 100 dollars. The few exceptions would be when artists are very well known.

People can charge whatever the fuck they want for their work and people can choose whether or not they buy it because that’s how the free market works. If you think it’s too high then by all means, don’t buy it. But don’t be an asshole to them about it just because you feel entitled to their hard work. Doesn’t matter how “useful” it is to society, if it’s in demand people will pay and artists adjust their prices accordingly. People don’t need tv shows or movies but you wouldn’t tell the people who work on those to put up with shitty wages just because they “do nothing useful for society”.
