Despite claims to the contrary (by the fuzzbutt), this fuzzbutt is not our cat. You would be forgiven for thinking that this fuzzbutt was our cat, given how much it loves to beg us for food and pets, sneak inside our home, and hang out outside our door.
Tumblr media
But, no, this fuzzbutt is a neighbor's fuzzbutt, who has decided that we're better to hang around than the people who also keep two large dogs.

'Beginning Astrophotography.'
Tumblr media
When I won my Disability claim and received several years of backpay, I bought my digital camera and various accessories for it, including a small star-tracking mount. Astrophotography generally requires longer exposure times, and the stars appear to move across the sky as the earth rotates, so star trackers rotate the camera in the opposite direction at the same speed, so that the lens stays pointed at the same spot in the sky.
More expensive star trackers use computer-guidance to align the tracker axis with the earth's axis, regularly checking to make sure the alignment is maintained. My (relatively) cheap star tracker requires manual alignment (less precise, can't get as long of an exposure). The combination of mobility issues, sleep cycle stuff, lack of open sky near my house, and general inexperience with astrophotography has kept me from getting much practice.
This image was created by stacking, in Siril, a free astrophotography pre-processing program, approximately 15 exposures of 6 seconds each. This is from my second attempt at using the star tracker I bought years ago. I really want to get at least a 20 second exposure with crisp stars, but I'll need to learn how to use the polar scope (and find a location where I can easily see Polaris).
Once I'm comfortable enough with alignment, then I can start thinking about the subject matter — constellations, nebulae, galaxies. For this one, I just aimed the camera to point directly upward, since the purpose was to work on polar alignment / star trailing.

Unfortunately, my brain rebels at the thought of adding another site to upload to. I struggle to add more than a title, hashtags, and a pasted license blurb to my posts. I don't even upload to my Flickr account anymore. (Executive function issues / lack of spoons.)
For those who do have the capacity to upload their wildlife pics/videos/audio and tag them with all the pertinent data (location, time, etc.), the site is https://www.macaulaylibrary.org
FOR SCIENCE! FOR ART!
@tinylongwing complained that not enough photographers upload pics of front-facing birds. So here's a front-facing crow.
