Me bc of all of the times that the pokemon anime implied that Jessie, James and Meowth had potential to quit / to get good careers. JUST FOR THEM TO KEEP CHASING AFTER PIKACHU FOREVER. Please give them a happy ending šš

you know that villain thatās not the Main Concern Villain⢠theyāre like the Side Villain⢠and yeah maybe they were the Main Concern Villain⢠in season one but now theyāre just like an inconvenience full of snark and sass and sometimes they team up with the hero to save their own ass and they make it clear to the hero that they are most definitely a villainĀ but thereās still that one time only where they save the heroās life because they want to settle a debt or maybe because part of them cares just a little bit?
yeah i love that villain

One of the things I love about the OS is that we had some truly bizarre, completely unexplained happenings in some episodes, such as ⦠well, the entire plot behindĀ āThe Ghost of Maidenās Peakā, but especially the climax when the true culprit is revealed. Like, why was this Gastly able to speak the human language? Why was it able to transform not only into other pokĆ©mon, but also into inanimate objects (well, I guess maybe it wasnāt really transforming, but was instead using rapid-fire hypnosis, but still, thatās not what it looks like, so)? Why was it able to materialize a cash register out of thin air (not shown in this clip, but shown a bit later on)? Why does it hate sunlight here in the climax, but shown to be perfectly fine with sunlight when masquerading as the old woman earlier in the episode? Why does it have all of these abilities (the transformations / rapid-fire hypnosis, the cash register, the human speech) when the gastly that we meet later on inĀ āThe Tower of Terrorā doesnāt?
Itās so bizarre and never explained, but at the same time I find it to be so fun. I often say thatĀ āthe OS was a wild rideā orĀ āthe OS was a different timeā in a way that pokes fun at the OS, but at the same time it was such a different beast, and I honestly feel that it has a lot of charm. (And note: I mean the Kanto season primarily, and a bit of Orange Islands. Johto really fell into the formula that we see in later sagas, so although Johto is technically part of the OS, I usually feel that itās a bit separate from Kanto and Orange all the same.) Episodes like this were so bizarre and leave so many questions open, but at the same time they were so unabashedly fun and I hold a great deal of fondness for them. I kind of wish the anime would play fast and loose with the worldbuilding /Ā āverse-rules like this more often.

Thought I'd share this clip in honor of Andy Warhol's birthday (which I didn't even know about).
