i know that overexplaining a joke kills a joke but. this isn't a joke and i wanna talk about this. allow me. it's my blog

"we were a hammer to the statue of david we were a painting you could never frame" it's kind of a Thing abt them how great and perfect they are because of how destructive they are i like that theme about them and this scene was fitting to me? especially with chuuya saying having dazai chained up is like an artpiece. and it's also the first time we get to see them and how well they fight. and i NEEDED to start w a panel from the first time we see them together in general going with the first song of the album !

"you were the sunshine of my lifetime" i did straight up use that line in my redraw of that panel so. oop i'm recycling xx but specifically with the "what would you trade the pain for" it goes with the panel in which dazai admits he wants to stay alive to fuck around with chuuya right. he's traded the pain for the sunshine. of his lifetime

"this city always hangs a little bit lonely on me loose" i just kinda wanted a panel of dazai looking miserable and lonely and i bumped into this from dead apple instead. chuuya is actually Also in that panel i just put the lyrics over him LMAO but i thought it was kinda metaphorical to hide chuuya under dazai self-pity and self-commiseration lmao. also yokohama is a big deal to every character so i like a line that talks about the city. and of course the bandages flying around bc they're loose

"every lover's got a little dagger in their hand" this is just self explainatory. i like a line that involves violence for them

"what would you trade the pain for i'm not sure" part TWO she is BACK it's just a confirmation of the decision dazai made at 15

"hurricane heat in my head" we Know chuuya using his powers and being cool and badass is a storm that dazai holds his breath to watch. self explainatory

"inscribed like stone and faded by the rain give up what you love before it does you in" just dazai eating shit everytime he chooses to be vulnerable and get attached to someone. this was Almost gonna be about oda but i decided to stick to skk. but iirc dazai kinda says something along the lines of this about oda dying on him. anyway so it had to be dazai saying goodbye to chuuya (fake)

"nobody said the road was endless nobody said the climb was friendless but can we please pretend this won't end?" i just like them being little best friends! 15 arcade moment is very emblematic of that To Me. but "can we please pretend this won't end" bc we know how it goes

"you put the fun into dysfuncion" kinda the same concept. they are and have been messy since day 1 but they're having fun they're being silly :)

"hold me like a grudge" i thought it HAD to be the s2 reunion. bc there's more significant grudges happening between them at age 22.

"part-time soulmate full-time problem so hold me like a grudge" this is the most iconic line from the album that we were warned about (you know the post saying ao3 users beware fall out boy has just dropped these lines in their new album and they're gonna be the title of every fic from now on) so i thought it deserved a tasteful pop of color. why the age 22 skk first but the age 15 skk now if it's the same line. i thought we could also see the origin of the soulmatism and the grudges that come with it. and hold hamds

"i am a diamond on the inside just had the pressure" you KNOW only a diamond can polish a diamond. i HAD to get mori in there. end of discussion. "know it's inside me but i got no map to my own treasure" i like to think of how their powers kinda unlock each other in a way. yk?

"remember us just like this forever but this can't last won't last" is like.. they were iconic they became historic even tho the partnership was very short. "so make no plans and none can be broken" dazai chronically avoiding commitment. but also iirc this panel is something that pops up while akutagawa and atsushi discuss how they can be like dazai and chuuya. like sort of a romanticized idolized version of them frozen in time that they'll be remembered as

"but i didn't take the love when i had the chance but i swear i'm not sad anymore" i really just wanted Any 22yo dazai smiling but as i was reading thru the chuuya introduction chapter i saw this ^ dazai smiling. at chuuya about chuuya. so i Took It. it's like. whatever good he had going for him in the port mafia he left behind but he's doing relatively good now so it's alright

"kiss my cheek baby please would you read my eulogy" oh you KNOW what the FUCK is UP here i can NOT explain if i wanted. it's all happening it's all here

"scar crossed lovers forever" is the other iconic ao3-history-making line so i thought it also deserved a tasteful pop of color. perhaps in the form of the most iconic romantic beautiful official art we could have possibly come up with. it Is giving lovers

"half your life you've been hooked on death" that's just dazai it's dazai it's him baby. fun fact there were a couple other lines i wanted to use but they were too dazai-centric so i left it alone but. shortly after this one the song goes "but me i'm still a sunbeam" and i was gonna use that panel from 15 when the old boss' corpse pops up and dazai looks at it smiling but he looks SO freaked out? that panel kills me. just something about how he's so pathetic miserable and all but also the goofiest of them all? and more specific to mori there's also a line that goes "like a kid playing pretend in his father's suit" in love from the other side and that said something to me about dazai having mori's coat yk

"i closed my eyes inside of your darkness and found your glow" again that's kind of how they bring out new value out of each other and their powers. visually i had more SPECIFICALLY in mind how chuuya glows red when he uses corruption (that's what gives me most darkness/glow visuals hence the panel used) but it goes both ways

"and all of my wildest dreams they just end up with you and me" that has SO MUCH going for it. using dead apple panel specifically as a perfect example of how dazai always makes his plans around the basic concept of Chuuya Will Come In And Fix Things AJFSJFKKEG but also the fairytale aspect of it but i was ALSO thinking about stormbringer mori telling dazai he can get his double suicide with chuuya

"i know i keep my feelings so tucked away just another day spent hoping we don't fall apart" that's very #deep way of how dazai operates on refusing to experience emotion. how much he makes a joke out of his bond w chuuya? yk? "so drop a bomb on all the things we dreamed about" bc he's drowning chuuya in that panel as we all know but it could also just kinda work for him fleeing the mafia and leaving skk behind ig

"last night i dreamt i still knew you" basic concept of how much they may or may not have changed in the 4 years they spent apart "i carved out a place in this world for two but it's empty without you" this specifically strikes me as how they get in the port mafia together pretty much and how they function as a duo and how it must feel off for chuuya once dazai leaves but also how off dazai must feel once he leaves? it HAS to feel empty for them both. they were catastrophically formative for each other. we KNOW dazai has never learned how to function without chuuya bc even when he's with the ada he still builds his plans around chuuya fnsjfjaig

"i've got all this love i've gotta keep to myself all this effort to make it look effortless" this COULD have gone both ways. i was gonna use the panels of chuuya shooting dazai or dazai drowning chuuya almost interchangably. i settled on using chuuya here because. i think he has to make more of an effort than dazai to make it look effortless. he's a way more normal guy about things than dazai is. he DOES have all this love. and he's gotta keep it to himself now. the all this effort line specifically was giving me this panel vibes for the way his mouth twitches when he's not supposed to emote fjskfiskg

"time is luck and i wish ours overlapped more or for longer" self explanatory enough! but i do wanna say this is the panel where their speech bubbles overlap. so haha i am very clever

"the first time i took the mask off just had another one on underneath" initially makes me think of just dazai specifically. how he's not hiding anything under the bandages on his eye but that itself is also a sort of mask under a mask? but it DOES work for chuuya too especially in 15 his liar era his lying to dazai and mori's face (two of the top 5 smartest bsd characters according to google LMAO) about arahabaki. but also his vampire twilight cosplay era lying to two of the top 5 smartest characters successfully AGAIN? if chuuya wanted to he'd a make a fool of all of us. anyway they do get depicted wearing masks a lot in 15 but i just went with their fookin eyes bc i wanted them in the same image and i don't know if any of the masked illustrations has them together. also something philosophical about eyes and souls idk. whatever

"what is there between us if not a little annihilation?" god i LOVE THIS LINE FOR THEM IT MIGHT BE MY FAVE?? i have a sketchbook piece about them and this line. god. and that panel!!! it could have also been a corruption moment but! yeah. i have no words. i think it's perfect.

"i'm pretty sure as far as humans go i am a hard hard pill to swallow" they are difficult little guys are they not. self explanatory. i think that panel looks silly also :)

"and i miss the way that i felt nothing" this Could have been 15 dazai talking to mori before being sent out on the arahabaki mission But. as i said i was looking at the chuuya introduction pages and i saw This fookin face. and i decided this works too him looking so bored moments before seeing chuuya again after years

"too many times after too much alcohol" you Know what's up here. and the "but you don't know me anymore" sort of a callback to another line a few images above

"i think i've been going through it and i've been putting your name to it" this has Always Always ALWAYS summoned that exact panel in my brain ARGH!!! it's where he says he got wasted to celebrate (liar) dazai leaving with that sad sad little face. kills me. i have nothing to add. self explanatory.

and the last one is also a callback to the first song. i like the sparkles going with the sunshine. everything's already been discussed. we are screaming and crying on the floor. i'll put on the cd xx
