The EcoSync 2K
Welcome to the future.
The Ecosync 2000 is a new form of dye that pair molecules of the colours with the hair and change it to elements of nature. Clearly, it’s a bit of a far-fetched idea, but it reminded me of the things that we would make up when we were younger. When I was a child, I would imagine all sorts of stuff and I wanted to take ideas from that time. So, I got inspired from magazine from early 2000s, especially teen magazines and decided to make something with it. I used elements from magazines like shapes in “wacky” colours. I thought that light green and pink with a bit of blue would be interesting they are complementary colours and so I thought that this would give it a slight 90s feel to it. The element of nature that I designed is a molecule. I was inspired by molecules in hair dyes, and I redesigned it to include all sorts of girl-ish elements to appeal to a teenager in 2009 and have this girl's magazine feel to it. I believe it's something that you would see in a Girls magazine like seventeen and so I wanted to replicate that feeling. I also made a logo with it. I thought it would be interesting to add a logo of the company. I called the company Chromashift, we need to show a fun hair dye company name but also kind of keep the futuristic aspect with it so I thought putting “chroma” with “shift” especially would feel more futuristic. The title of the company in the logo is made to look like a splash of colour on a girl's hair. I made a list of possible print of colors that are clearly not realistic, but also something that can be fun for teenagers, I kept them similar because I wanted to bring out the feeling that it is a new line and that more colours will be coming soon. I also added shapes like stars and circles and lower the opacity of some colours to evoke the Y2K aspect of it all.

DYE 3000
work in progress one

DYE 3000 is a hair dye that uses Nanotechnology to be able change the pattern and colors of the hair. After using our dye, the hair follicles with be modified by our product and give your chosen pattern. I want to a few molecules showing the tech behind the dye.
I want to show a diagram of multiple hair strands working under the project. I also want it to hav a certain futuristic vibe.
I want an futuristic 2000s aesthetic because I feel as though this dye would be something we would think would be possible during our time. I want it to kind of have that spy kids feel.

Palais des congrès de Montréal
My project name is “Palais.” I chose to take a surrealist collage approach to the design and broke down the physical space of palais des congrès, mashing up exterior and the interior of the building. The palais des congrès is a commercial space, it’s wide and and depending on the days it can be either busy or empty. I chose to mainly represent the streets outside and the inside of the hall with the umbrellas and the stairs inside the cut-out entrance of the palais. About my form of my poster, the poster makes use of hierarchy with juxtaposition the modified images on photoshop. The palais des congrès made shapes and colours are its main design principles. Everything surrounding the structure is based around this. The inside is desaturated while the outside is colourful, so I made it so that in my poster it’s a mix of both. I made a visualization of the street using the names and making it into an alternate. I made the stairs monochrome because they are like that in real life. I desaturated the colours to create contrast between the exterior and the interior. I choose to make a collage styled poster because the palais has this absurdist styled interior with an explosion of colour at a certain point of the day. It especially has this dizzying effect with the sun light and repetitive patterns throughout the building. My goal was to break down and accentuate these aspects to make the palais recognizable. I also sought to make us both typographic and graphic visuals in the building as the palais is recognizable thanks to these two. For example, I made the hand from the tree shaped sculptures in the palais. I turned into a hand because hands often I would joke as a kid that it looked like a hand. As a person with adhd, I feel as though this poster also show a perspective that my younger self used to see when I went to the palais.
I realized I saved this as a draft 😀 sorry for the late submission

At the intersection

Language of the street (2023)
Aminata Ndoye
My project name is “At the intersection.” It represents the intersection between Notre-Dame Avenue and Cure-Labelle Avenue from an ant's point of view. There are 4 main things to be seen. The 151-bus stop at both opposite sides of the street that I usually always take, the St-Martin Mall sign and the big bright red McDonald's. I believe that if the intersection were to sink down, these would be the main things one would see.
The poster contains 4 digitally modified images and, using the technique of perspective, I made them so that they were all leading up to the circle of words, making it as if it were the sun in the sky. I originally planned to add more to the background, but I felt like it was unnecessary. I left some white space to make it feel like you are laying down and looking up at the sky. It is as if staring directly at the sun and everything around it becomes silouhettes. It is an excessive dramatization of the intersection from an ant’s point of view. It makes you feel like you are looking up at a skyscraper. The balance of the poster is made to feel like there are only two ways to go from there; either the McDonalds or the Mall. An important thing is that the image does not have a top, bottom, left or right side. You can rotate it however you’d like. I used the contrast between black and white to make sure there is an equal focus between the subjects leading to the circle with the streets’ names. I feel as though putting colors would distract the viewer and take away from the piece. Especially the bright red of the McDonald. The sign is recognizable enough. I also emptied the mall sign from it's words because I feel like if we wanted it to be silouhette-like and focus on the shape, it would be better.
What I wanted to highlight is how recognizable a street can be when you take the things you see the most. I often take this path to go home or to school. We take references on the path we often take, and I wondered what it would look like to take those references and simplify them in the way I see them. I usually see the McDonald's “M” logo or the shape of the Saint Martin Mall sign first before reading the words on the sign or restaurant.

Bomb Hugger (Bomb love)

Bomb Love (Bomb Hugger). 2002, MyArtBroker, London. www.myartbroker.com/artist-banksy/series-bomb-love.
The work presented is called Bomb hugger also known as Bomb Love Banksy. Banksy is a street artist notorious for his stenciled political art and for remaining anonymous while making it. Born in Bristol, England, he has done a lot of graffiti and remains influential. In 2003, the artist created Bomber Hugger. This copy is one he has reprinted and sold from the original he made in 2001.
In this piece, we see a girl with a high ponytail hugging a bomb like a teddy bear. The art is made in stencil form in black and white with very harsh contrast. An interesting here is that the negative space is pink. I believe it also meant to emphasize the girl in front. The proportion of the girl and the bomb is normal because nukes are quite big. There is a lack of variety in the art, which make the only focus the girl and the bomb. The form of the two subjects is also interesting to look at. With contrasting values, Banksy managed to make the bomb the girl hugging it very organically.
The image is not quite literal, there’s a meaning hidden behind it to decode. Bomb Hugger is a girl who hugs a bomb. X is y which means that the art piece is metaphorical. The key signs here are the bomb and the girl as they are very important and emphasized
According to Saussure's semiotic theory, signs are made of the signifier and the signified. Which means respectively an object and a meaning. In the Bomb Hugger, the first sign is represented by a bomb and the second signifier is the girl hugging. The girl's expression is a content one. She’s happy to hug a weapon of mass destruction. The weapon seems almost insignificant. It's a very ironic satirical political stencil. The meaning of the signs is conflicting just like their signifier. The girl has the meaning of love due to her childlike innocence and the way she hugs the bomb whose meaning is hate. The message is quite subjective since this art piece is metaphorical. I believe that bomb hugger is about how love can turn even the most dangerous weapons meaningless. As the color pink takes up a lot of space in the image and pink is the color of love and compassion, it accentuates the love the girl has for her “toy”.
The sign is hard to interpret due to the fact that it's a very broad sign. The viewer seeing this could have a harder time deciphering what is happening in this picture. I know it was a little hard to decipher it. The meanings could vary heavily from the bomb hugger signifying the love for war and violence to the juxtaposition of love and hate. Yet as much as the meaning is clouded, the image still makes an impact on its viewer for its provocative imagery. All and all, the broadness of the antiwar piece, Bomb Hugger remains a powerful image to those who see it.

Uncle Sam Wants You

Flagg, James Montgomery. “ Uncle Sam' wants you to join the army. ” Time, APRIL 6, 2017 , https://time.com/4725856/uncle-sam-poster-history/ MPI/ Getty Images
Uncle Sam remains an extremely influential symbol throughout the years. Made by James Montgomery Flagg in 1916, he was then used for the Great War also known as the World War I to get the population of the united state to fight for their patriotic values and call for preparedness. Being the representation of the American government, With the most famous portrayal being the one where he calls young Americans to war in World War I.
He is drawn as an old white-haired man dressed in patriotic colors which are red, blue and white with white stars. The typical American gentleman at the time of his creation adorned with a white tall hat, red bow tie and a blue coat. The letters say: “I want YOU for the U.S. army” and “nearest recruiting station” which isn’t as interesting as the former. There also the typography of the message. The “YOU” is aggravated and emphasized to feel like he is talking to us. The red color of the word immediately draws you eyes to it. There also the movement. His whole body leans towards the hand that points to you. His eyes feel like his directed at us directly. The proportions of the letters compared to Uncle Sam are also quite different. Uncle Sam takes more space so we can see that he’s the main focus of this advertisement. He also has good proportions comparing his head to his body. There isn’t a lot of variety but it would worthless to do so since it is getting its point across quite well.
The ad message is quite straightforward, soldiers are wanted in the army and it speaks to the subjects, the male population of the United States as at that time they were the only ones allowed in the U.S. military. Objectively, the ideology is that men are needed for war but subjectively, it feels like he’s talking to you, the viewer. Uncle Sam is seen as a representation of the United States government, as they both shares the same acronym. So, it feels like it’s the government that’s talking to the viewer. Its an order and makes the viewer feel like they are the best person for this job. I believe that is definitively not oppositional reading but it is also not negotiated. Viewers looking at this ad take a mainly dominant-hegemonic position. The image is interpreted by the audience the way the creator intended. The image was made by Flagg to prepare and recruit for the war.
I believe that the message is communicated quite effectively since the message is also spelt. Even I felt like I was compelled to join with the pressure of Uncle Sam pointing his hand at me. Thought it wouldn’t have been possible at that time. Historically the message was directed at males old enough to participate in the war, but now this message still present in the U.S. Time have changed and are more peaceful than the 1910s, but the army still recruit. Uncle Sam wants you has made a big impact for the war effort and remains a good example of bringing a population together for a common cause with an advertisement.
