Happy 10 year adoptaversary to my beautiful girl Birch! She's been with me across 5 states and some of the best and worst times of my life. Photos of shortly after I adopted her; and two weeks ago.

Yo Ho Ho, It's A Sea Shanty Tournament! Round 2
There may be thirty-two contestants, but there can only be one clear winner!
youtube
Propaganda from the submitter:
"Space Shanty" details a mission on the Starship Enterprise from "Star Trek." It's hilarious and a delightfully nerdy twist on the genre! Plus, it's a capella for the most part, so the band members' amazing vocals are really shown off!
youtube
Propaganda from submitter 1:
I (Submitter) have known the Jolly Rodgers my entire life. They are close friends with my mom, they even used to babysit me. They are a group of singing pirates who perform at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival and the Muskogee Renaissance Festival in Oklahoma. They've been around for 30ish years, and have many albums of traditional sea shanties as well as original songs.
From submitter 2:
A timeless scottish classic, the most beautiful shanty according to many (incl. me)

One For The Road is one of their original songs (and if my memory serves, they added a certain "faster!" part at the end because my mom is a sign language interpreter and they wanted to see if she could sign that fast. She did, she can sign it faster than they could sing it, and they even sing it faster in live performances than in the studio recording)

Propaganda from the submitter:
You're stuck in the hold at the very bottom of the ship and you can hear the wood creaking. Somehow it becomes a tune.

Please, Tumblr folks, do not sleep on the Leviathan anime that comes out tomorrow. Netflix have done absolutely nothing to promote it - there hasn't even been a proper trailer released.
It's based on a WONDERFUL series of books by Scott Westerfeld, and is fit to burst with alternate history, steampunk aesthetics, queer romance, mech suits, bio-engineered creatures, including a flying whale, plus it has music by Joe Hisaishi. It was created in direct collaboration with the original author AND illustrator, Keith Thompson.
Please, give it the love it deserves 🙏

curious to hear y'all's suggestions for the worst possible pasta shape
(Assume that "pasta" needs to be made of sheets or strands of dough with enough surface area relative to thickness so that they can be cooked.)

Note
for the book asks: 1, 2, 8, 35, 43!
1 (Favorite book this year): Probably Unraveller by Frances Hardinge. Every one of her books I've read has rewritten my brain in the best way.
2 (Favorite fantasy book): this is SO HARD because fantasy is my favorite genre...but it's gotta be either Night Watch by Terry Pratchett, or Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce.
8 (Favorite queer fiction book): Loveless by Alice Oseman made me cry at work.
35 (Least favorite trope in my most favorite genre): not strictly limited to fantasy, but i'm now Tired of love triangles after reading more and more books that resolve them with polyamory.
43 (Book I own in the worst physical condition): Definitely my copy of First Test, by Tamora Pierce. The recycling center in my hometown had a trailer full of used books that people didn't want anymore and you could just take anything you wanted, and that's where I got mine. The first forty or so pages are falling out of the binding, and one page is ripped in half horizontally, but it's the one I got personalized when I met Tamora Pierce in Boston.
