I'm sorry if I fail to see Jeff Sadecki,

who pressured his girlfriend into sex and when he wouldn't give it to her, cheated on her with her best friend.

Who then proceeded to Marry said best friend.

Who invaded his wife's privacy, reading her journals for zero discernable reason.

Who behaved in such a way in the next 25 years that neither Callie or Shauna hesitated to believe that he might be cheating when he was staying late at work.

Who barely bothers to talk to his fifteen year old daughter, let alone ask if she's okay after finding out she was doing ecstasy in town.

Who blackmailed his wife's heavily traumatised friends for money, unearthing decades of trauma mearly because his business was failing.

Who publicly puts down his wife behind her back to win a business deal.

Who knows everything that Shauna went through and never bothers to talk to Shauna about it nor to suggest she go to therapy instead, threatening to expose all that information

Ok so. I recently started watching Star Trek (the original one) because my dad is a huge nerd and he likes the show, and I immediately noticed a chemistry between Spock and Captain Kirk, so, as one does, I opened Google to search about it and.

I.

I think I stumbled into something way bigger than I could've imagined.

One of my favorite things is modern adaptations that leave people with the same careers they had in the original material, because unless you’re a cop or a doctor that practically never happens.

Irene Adler’s an opera singer. We still have those! They don’t have the same subtext exactly, but nothing is going to because we aren’t the Victorians. She could continue to be an opera singer. I have never seen this happen.

Jonathan Harker can still be in real estate. That’s a job people have. A modern story that still involves Dracula contacting his firm to help him purchase property sounds amazing actually.

I do not play about Jackie being a lesbian who experiences severe compulsory heterosexuality. That is 100% canon to me. She looks absolutely miserable when Jeff asks her to go down on him, she finds every excuse to avoid having sex with him, and when she finally does have sex with a man it’s when she’s passively suicidal, no longer believes in love, and wants to lash out against Shauna. The catalyst for Jackie’s despair and complete loss of hope is discovering Shauna’s betrayal, and when she learns that Shauna and Jeff slept together, her devastation is focused solely on Shauna.

Any time Jackie is with a man it feels like self-punishment or destruction. It’s something she’s doing to herself, not for herself. She is a character suffocated by expectations of perfection and social influence, forced to perform a version of femininity and romance that doesn’t actually fit her. Jackie as a closeted lesbian makes so much sense for her story and her tragic end. Those slumber party make outs were definitely happening.

i completely agree that the finale/pit girl relevation had a compelling twist when recontextualised. the show is all the more enjoyable for the fact that we are being given nuance in the yellowjackets. i also like the choice to make it a tragedy, they wanted the audience to be hurt instead of just indifferent. mari mattered, so her death should matter. it always had to be mari.

but why do you think the returning yellowjackets all made a pact to keep quiet instead of just exposing shauna and lottie? why is hiding the truth so important, to the point where taissa will use jessica roberts to secretly track down her former classmates to see if they've been talking, melissa fakes her death & creates a fake identity, misty happily imprisons jessica and then kills her later, nat uses drugs to cope?

it's because their hands aren't clean either.

i need some of y'all to grasp that you don't need to like or defend shauna or lottie to get this point! its perfectly within your rights to hate shauna's guts - although there's a difference between hate and misunderstanding.

and a damming point of evidence regarding this truth is hannah.

i completely get why from the girls perspective they chose hannah to be the scarifice through van rigging the cards. but from an audience pov, i don't think we're meant to see it at all as justified or something that whitewashes the yellowjackets. vans anguish about choosing someone to die and taissa assuring her it was for the best? that was for the audience.

i completely get why it's being lost on the girls but its so annoying seeing a lot of y'all in the audience.... kind of just excuse/overlook the fact what the girls were prepared to do to hannah as if her own humanity didn't matter? a lot of y'all should be a lot smarter and recognise that hannah was a HOSTAGE who did what she could to survive. yes, trusting her would have been a risk, but i dont know maybe it would have been worth it if it prevented her being hunted through the woods?

ultimately the girls were ready to hunt someone they held hostage (similar to the way they held ben in inhumane conditions for WEEKS because they thought it would lead to them getting home) when it wasn't necessary to overpower shauna and lottie at that moment.

i also doubt mari is going to be the last victim in the wilderness y'all. i think in s4 we're going to see natalie separated from the group and we're going to see why shauna was justified in her words about the others ultimately having "so much fun" (a lot of y'all are also forgetting how they danced around at ben's feast & the way they behaved in s2!)
