Character design for development of sci-fi comedy series, based on loose prompts for a security guard, a captain, and a science officer. For this assignment, I played against visual tropes to try to find a fresh angle on the archetypes. For the security officer, I created someone short and unimposing, then imagined that this gave him a hot temper -- something that could still allow for success in his role. For the captain, to play against the Captain Kirk / Leela type, I went with an inexperienced female captain who might be in command of her first ship and nervous about living up to expectations. For the science officer, instead of a cold, analytical android type, I thought of qualities that make a good scientist -- curiosity, experimentation, and open-mindedness -- and I went with a noodly alien stoner who likes to get high and talk about hypothetical theories. He's more like Timothy Leary or Elon Musk than Stephen Hawking or Data. Overall, I just wanted to create fun characters that might offer new avenues for storytelling.

Creator and creative director of "The Bagheads" animated short with Frederator Studios. The world of the Bagheads is populated by a crazy collection of characters with bags on their heads. For this cartoon, I created the concept itself, wrote the script, created concept art and character designs, sketched storyboards, and provided art direction throughout production, including animations, designs, character turns, and key art / title cards.
(Note: Title card and environment above were created by staff artists based on my concepts and art direction. All other illustrations are my own.)
