it was hard not to be hyper-aware of the woman sitting beside him, the space between them negligent in the cozy undercover car. darcy was still looking out the window, still on the lookout for shadows, but it wasn’t difficult to see she was looking past it. a part of him felt guilty pulling her into vice, even if her and bucky had agreed to it - even if she halfway volunteered. long nights and hard to stomach cases were all he dealt in, and he was selfish for wanting to bring her in with him for some form of comfort. there was no way to describe the way he wanted her beside him other than selfish. 

❝ i don’t know about you, but i got a craving for isopropyl. ❞      he teased, reclining the seat another inch to make it more bareable. another couple of hours and they were home free, unless someone made a move tonight. tonight was surveillance, recon, but there were some actions too vile for wade to watch and just let go. he let out a sigh, slowly twisting his neck to ease the tension.     ❝ you gonna drink at home, or are you planning on hitting up a bar at sunshine? ❞      he asked, eyes taking a break from the streets and the alleys and the windows to focus on her face, trying to study just how tired she might be.

          a soft giggle fell from her lips as her head gently hit the headrest behind her–– looking up at the fabric lined roof she lets out a final chuckle, before her gaze falls to back to him. their eyes lock for a moment before she quickly looks away, her heart skipping just a little. ‘ isopropyl is gonna kill you one day, wade. then i’m gonna have to fight it, i’ll have to set fire to it and everything it loves for taking my partner from me. ’ her voice was light, but the words did have meaning to the woman. she really would set fire to anything if it ever hurt him and it terrified her. shifting in her seat, darcy moved her body to face more towards wade to try and get feeling back in her ass but she wasn’t holding out for hope. ‘ probably going to hit up a bar, might even be naughty and smoke a little, ‘cause god do i need it right now. ’ she sighs. ‘ please tell me your ass is also falling asleep, ‘cause i know for a fact mine is. ’

         she hadn’t realised that she leant her hand on wade’s knee as she lifted herself to stretch her legs out until she plopped back down and eyed the pale of her hand against the dark of his jeans. clearing her throat, she quickly drew her hand back and grimaced. ‘ oh god, i’m so sorry. i thought your leg was the middle console, i didn’t mean to feel you up. ’ heat rose at her cheeks as she sunk into her seat, wishing that whoever was in that building would come out and shoot her in the face. she cursed inwardly to herself, her brain trying to reason with her heart into calming the fuck down before it gave her a heart attack. ‘ what about you? you going to drink at home or come out with little ol’ me? ’
