The Inspiration Behind "Ruth's List"
Tumblr media
A veterinarian with a background in music, writing, and teaching, Dr. Linda Jack specializes in preventive care and nutrition. She also serves over 50 general practices and emergency clinics throughout Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina. Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Linda Jack is an active supporter of Ruth's List. Established in 2008 by Florida's Democratic women leaders, Ruth's List is an organization dedicated to furthering progressive initiatives in the state through the recruitment and development of passionate Democratic women. The organization provides political training, as well as fundraising and campaign assistance in an effort to help women win local government positions. Since its inception, Ruth's List has helped to elect over 50 women to political office and raised over $1 million for its endorsed candidates. The organization was named in honor of Ruth Bryan Owen, who became the first Southern woman elected to Congress when she was voted into the House of Representatives in 1929, thereby defeating Republican candidate William C. Lawson. Owen served two terms in Congress and was later appointed as minister to Denmark by President Franklin Roosevelt. In 1948, she was named alternate delegate to the United Nations General Assembly by President Harry Truman.

Dermatological Conditions in Dogs
Tumblr media
Dr. Linda Jack cares for small animals as a relief veterinarian serving patients at dozens of practices in her home state of Florida. Previously she spent many years working as a veterinarian in North Carolina. Dr. Linda Jack is particularly skilled at delivering quality dermatological care to animals. Over their lifetimes, dogs can develop all sorts of skin problems, some of which are totally curable, while others can be managed with proper treatment. Bacterial dermatitis, a curable skin infection, can cause symptoms like hair loss in dogs. Veterinarians treat bacterial dermatitis with antibiotics, but since it is uncommon in healthy dogs, they may also conduct diagnostic tests to see if an underlying issue has given rise to the dermatitis. For example, sometimes improper diet can lead to skin problems in dogs, as can treatable allergies.  Dogs also can develop dermatological symptoms owing to chronic or incurable illnesses. A dog with lupus, an autoimmune disorder, may exhibit hair loss and skin discoloration. Other illnesses that can cause skin-related symptoms include glandular problems, Cushing’s disease, and hypothyroidism. Because there are so many causes of skin disorders in dogs experienced veterinarians like Dr. Linda Jack will often recommend advanced diagnostic testing before making treatment recommendations.
