Meet Ahmad Aldany

Ahmad Aldany is a disabled teenager living in Gaza. He was born into this world already a victim of the Israeli occupation, with lifelong health conditions impacting his bones from exposure in utero to gas from a phosphorus bomb fired in 2008.

Two years ago, Israel destroyed his home and displaced his family, forcing them, like so many other Palestinians, into a life of instability--moving from place to place in search of safety.

He witnessed horrific scenes no child should ever see: destruction, and constant fear. Ahmed wakes up at night to the sound of explosions and screams at the top of his voice because he is afraid.

The healthcare infrastructure was decimated, leaving him unable to receive the treatment he needs for his disability.

Now, the famine has become so severe that he goes long days without eating.

A new study published on the Harvard Dataverse by researcher Yaakov Garb reveals chilling findings: Israel’s own military population data shows Gaza’s population has dropped from 2.2 million to just 1.85 million within three so-called “humanitarian zones” — Gaza City, Al-Mawasi, and Central Gaza.

That leaves 377,000 Palestinians unaccounted for.

But these people are not just “missing” in data. They are the ones bombed in northern Gaza. They are the families crushed in Rafah’s eastern district — now flattened.

My name is Khalil. I write to you, bleeding from the pain of a land besieged by hunger and fear.

Yesterday, my need to feed my family and my younger siblings, who go to bed without food every day, drove me north, toward the crossing, where trucks loaded with flour entered. I was dreaming of just one bag of flour to feed my younger siblings. But instead of flour, I found shells raining down on us.

More than 40 people were martyred in front of me in an instant, and I was just meters away.

I was shot in the leg, and I fell among the dead. I don't know how I survived... I only know that I am no longer able to walk for long, let alone feed my family.

We are in a real hell. My family, my younger siblings, and my ailing father are going to bed without food. Our mothers are crying in grief, and we are unable to even secure a loaf of bread.
