8. Your overall reflections on the internship and your studies.
I enjoyed my time throughout the internship experience. I benefited in may ways including gaining industry experience, developing my skills, managing time and overall getting a small insight into what working in the industry would be like (Sides, C., & Mrvica, A. (2017). Learning skills at Soccerscene will help me in my future and be prepared to enter the work force. My favourite part of the internship was covering the first womens coaching football summit at the MCG with Soccerscene where industry professionals and big names in Australian football attended and presented at the event. This gave me an insight to what role a job in the industry might offer and what covering an event would look like. Following the summit I created an article on key take aways from the day and important quotes, this was a different type of piece compared to my usual writing but it was a great experience to be a part of.
The 3zzz internship was also a very enjoyable experience as I was exposed to the broadcasting side of media and journalism. I picked up many skills such as creating audio pieces as I produced many of 3zzz’s Polyfonix episodes and also learnt how to broadcast live which is a valuable skill to have in the industry. I am now comfortable in the studio and will continue to use and refine my skills in the studio as I begin to conduct my own podcast.

7. Reflection on your supervisor evaluations and how these align with your future career professional development requirements.
I have been pleased with the evaluation as it has reflected my performance in the internship. I completed many articles and improved my skills along with increases my independence at Soccerscene. “Daniel has been a regular contributor for our weekly articles, completing 4-5 a week as per our schedule. After starting out with a bit of everything, I have given Daniel international news as his ‘cohort’ so that he can source his own material and organise his workflow – part of this being how to prioritise stories. Daniel has also jumped in to assist our partners Box2Box, where he has done written material which is a recap of each weekly podcast they do.” The evaluation aligns with my future career professional development as I already had the fundamental skills and have added to my skillset and knowledge of article writing. Covering the PR side of soccer also gave me greater insight to the business side of things, rather than just the on field events. “Daniel has been a reliable member of our team and completes his articles by the due date, sometimes well before. There have been some occasions where this couldn’t be met, but he has communicated why that was the case and I could do a workaround if so – no issues with performance”. The evaluation was fair as it correctly summarised my input and management of articles and meeting deadlines, another skill I have improved on throughout the internship.

6. Career aspirations including goal setting
My career aspirations revolve around writing and reporting for a sporting organisation. Since beginning the course and completing the course it has become clear my best strength is my writing ability, however my skills and knowledge in media has expanded greatly. Media is now a given part of any journalism role in the industry and I am more than capable of succeeding in this side of the role. Starting my career I would be grateful for any opportunity in the industry, however my aspiration would be to eventually work in the NBL or A-league or potentially overseas if the chance presented itself.
Goal setting is important as outlines direction and purpose (Van Yperen, N. W., & Orehek, E. (2013). I have improved in several areas throughout the course such as time management and organisation. My writing also improving due to many essay assignments requiring a large amount of writing, along with completing many articles for Soccerscene in my internship and gaining industry experience. My next goal in terms of career is establishing my self in a full time role and having my name known in the industry.

5. Achievements and milestones
Throughout my internship I accomplished several achievements. At Soccerscene I had my first insight into what a journalist role in the industry would look like, and experienced under taking interviews and publishing articles by a certain time. I had achieved becoming an entry journalist for the company and had completed many articles which featured across the Soccerscene website and media pages. This also allowed me to build my own portfolio by including my work in my CV and sharing it on my linkedIn.
At 3zzz radio station my biggest achievement was becoming a licensed broadcaster. I spent much time in the studio and went from not knowing how to operate or use any equipment to being comfortable by myself in the studio and know how to produce audio myself. Most of my producing was on 3zzz Polyfonix series, promoting Melbourne artists live music. After learning the skills I became able to produce and record episodes myself, it was something I thoroughly enjoyed doing while being able to continuously learn and improve my skills in the studio.

4. Challenges you faced
After a smooth start and settling in, I found completing daily articles slightly difficult toward the end of the week due to other commitments. As I had completed many stories it was also being more difficult to source stories, however I would often find one per day rather than collect a group of stories at once to ensure they were up to date, while this would help me focus on the most relevant and appropriate story to cover for that specific date. The Concept of Motivation looks philosophically and psychologically at the idea of motivation in order to explain human behaviour (Peters, R. S. (2015). The nature of the work was enjoyable, being a football fan, I was always motivated to write on the game I love. However, some stories were rather dry and finding motivation to complete those became difficult, although these did not occur often. Working hours were no issue as the majority was from home. Due to other commitments I was unable to complete my Thursday article, but I worked around it with the Soccerscene team and found the solution to schedule the piece to a Friday article instead. The Saturday morning meetings in Richmond were no issue and I attended most of the sessions, exchanging ideas and working with the rest of the team was a joy.

3. Becoming an effective team member and contributor
Becoming an effective team member and contributor required me to engage in the work and want to improve (Omar, Z., & Ahmad, A. (2014). I utilised the feedback I received on my articles, often by Liam, to correct errors and make small adjustments to my pieces which overall enhanced my writing ability. After completing every article I would send them to Liam as he would overlook them ensuring they were ready for publishing. This gave me confidence that my work was up to standard and if it needed to be adjusted I would be informed so with instructive feedback. After taking on suggestions and small tweaks in my writing I was able to become more efficient as I would no longer be making small errors which I did in the beginning, meaning there would be less editing before the article would be published. This helped me become a more effective team member and produce articles more efficiently, allowing them to be published earlier as less edits were needed.

2. Finding your feet in the internship
As I settled into the internship, a sense of familiarity began to envelop me, and I gradually found my groove within the bustling world of Soccerscene. Initially, I had felt like a newcomer navigating uncharted waters, but with each passing day, I became more at ease with my surroundings and the responsibilities that came with my role.
One of the key strategies I employed to adapt and excel in my position was seeking advice and feedback on my articles. After crafting an initial draft, I would actively reach out to my colleagues and superiors, soliciting their valuable insights and suggestions. This practice not only allowed me to refine my writing skills but also offered me a window into the editorial standards and preferences of Soccerscene. Through this process of feedback and revision, I learned how to structure my pieces in a manner that resonated with the publication's audience. I gained an understanding of the kind of content that was expected, which greatly contributed to the improvement of my writing.
As the weeks passed, I had the privilege of getting to know my fellow team members on a more personal level. The interactions extended beyond mere workplace interactions, evolving into genuine connections and friendships (D’abate, C. P., Youndt, M. A., & Wenzel, K. E. (2009). Exchanging ideas and engaging in lively discussions became a regular part of my daily routine. Being comfortable created a collaborative environment where ideas flowed freely, and it became increasingly easier to reach out for assistance when I needed.
The newfound familiarity with my colleagues allowed me to tap into their experience and knowledge. Whether I needed guidance on a particularly challenging article or sought advice on tackling a specific aspect of soccer journalism, I felt comfortable turning to my colleagues for support. Their willingness to help and share their expertise not only enriched my own skillset but also deepened my sense of belonging within the Soccerscene team.
My journey into the internship at Soccerscene was marked by a gradual evolution from uncertainty to confidence. Seeking guidance, adapting to editorial expectations, and building strong relationships with my colleagues were pivotal in my growth during this period. As I became more comfortable with both the professional and interpersonal aspects of the internship, I found myself not only contributing to the publication but also becoming a part of the team that fuelled Soccerscene's success.

1: Commencing Internship
Internships an be the key to a great job as it gives the students an insight into the professional world (Coco, M. (2000). Upon completing a successful application and interview I was accepted to start my internship with Soccerscene, an independent news source producing soccer related articles. I was excited to gain experience in working in a professional environment and was prepared by ensuring my time management was excellent to balance university work along with completing an internship. I was interviewed and welcomed to the organisation by Soccerscene founder Liam Watson, where he outlined what the internship would look like and consist of. This included setting up my Soccerscene Wordpress account and joining the Whatsapp group to communicate with the rest of the organisations members. I would be expected to complete three articles per week which would vary from local or international stories, with many different topics and angles to be featured on different weeks.
Assimilating into the organisations culture was easy due to everyone being like-minded and sharing a love for the game. The team were happy to have me on board and I was ready to apply myself which made the process of joining the organisation and adapting to their culture smooth. I was apart of the Soccerscene team and keen to see what the rest of the internship held.

Chris Paul milestone
It was a historic game for Chris Paul as his basket in the second quarter of the game between the Phoenix Suns and LA Lakers saw the point guard become the first player ever to accumulate 20,000 points and 10,000 assists in a single career. Paul, 37 years old, is beginning his 17th season in the NBA but has shown few signs of slowing down. Last season he played so well at the age of 36 that he was included in the All-Star team, second-team All-NBA, received the 5th most MVP votes and reached The NBA Finals for the first time in his career.
The social media activity of the Phoenix Suns saw the club congratulate their veteran guard across all their media platforms. Their eye catching post was also shared by the NBA, notifying all fans across league of Paul’s achievement. The content saw several images of Paul as the main feature along with the figures he reached bursting out next to him, drawing the audience in as statistics often do in the NBA. While the Suns kept the content about Chris Paul, they strategically used an image of him where their major sponsor (Paypal) is very visible, gaining free exposure for their partner in a post they knew would receive a great amount of media attention.

Bulls 4-0 best start since MJ
The Chicago Bulls are off to the franchise's best start in years. It's the first time the Bulls have started 4-0 since their championship-winning 1996-97 campaign. They improved to 4-0 with a 111-108 victory against the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena, making Chicago the last remaining unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference. After overhauling their roster in free agency, the Bulls are already reaping the benefits from some of their biggest offseason additions.
This is the first time in franchise history that the team has started 4-0 without Jordan on the roster, being present on the previous four occasions. It's a whole different circumstance now, but it's still an exciting moment in the windy city. The Organisation knows this and flooded social media with content reminding the fans of the brilliant record. The content was simple but effective as it was a statement from the club backing up all star guard Zach Lavine’s comment of “This ain’t last season” reminding the fans and league the Bulls are here to compete this year. By including stats in the content (4-0 record) the Bulls knew this would attract engagement as fans are vocal in commenting on social media when it comes to figures, making the audience active on the across Chicagos social media platforms.

Opening Night: Hawks v Mavs
The Atlanta Hawks will tip off their season by hosting the Dallas Mavericks at their home State Farm Arena. A big game for the Hawks, not because it's a test of their talent or referendum on the offseason, but it is a nationally televised game and the latest instalment of the Doncic vs Young battle. The two All-Stars will forever be linked together following the blockbuster draft-night trade of 2018. Hawks fans are excited, as they should be as they patiently waited through a rebuild, which successfully ended with major re-signings in recent months.
The NBA promoted the game by posting a creative image using the contrast of the teams colour blue and red, creating a water verse fire theme. The use of each teams best players (Luka Doncic/Kristaps Porzingis for Mavericks and Trae Young/John Collins for Hawks) was to excite fans and make them tune into the game as they have watched these superstars play in months due to the off season. The content also incorporates the NBA’s 75th anniversary design, reminding fans of that promotion as well s the game. The strategic use of the text “young stars’ further aims to create engagement as fans are prompted to comment and debate on social media about which team has the brighter future.

The lakers created a simple but effective piece of content to announcing the signing of the former all star, using an image or Anthony in all black and white while only leaving colour in the Lakers jersey. The bright yellow jersey captures attention and shouts out that Anthony is now a laker, while also targeting the audience to purchase this seasons jersey by making it stand out so well in the image.

Detroit select Cade Cunningham
The Detroit Pistons were fortunate to win the draft lottery which saw them select Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham with the first overall pick. The 6′7 Dallas native will be asked to try to lead the Pistons back into the playoff mix in the Eastern Conference. In 27 games at Oklahoma State last season, Cunningham averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks while shooting an impressive 43.8 percent from the field and 40 percent from three
Detroit has made the postseason three times in the past 12 seasons but hasn't won a playoff game since reaching the East finals for a sixth straight time in 2008. The Pistons will hope that can finally change after some luck in last month's NBA draft lottery landed them the top overall pick for the first time since 1970.
The Pistons started their social media draft campaign as soon as they landed the number one pick, generating hype and excitement across the entire league. With the league on notice, Detroit were able to generate instant media attention before making their pick as the nation awaited to see which youngster would be the first overall pick in the draft. Minutes after selecting Cunningham, the pistons social media posted a photo of him alongside the teams logo. This allowed the image to be spread and re-posted across social media platforms, creating free views and clicks on Detroits original image. This activity ultimately bringing anyone who follows the NBA to Detroits page, seeing a slight gain in followers and engagement in future posts.
