❝ Darlin', darlin', darlin', I fall to pieces when I'm with you, I fall to pieces. ❞ - lana del rey.
🌹: based off this little fic here, by the lovely @pomegranate-eater. also - happy birthday to me! i just turned 23! hurray! i just love being a cancer girlie! ❤️ i wanted to write something to treat myself, this right here is just pure indulgence on my part. you don't get more anacore than this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His loud grunts blessed your ears before you could even open the window. It was impossibly hard to focus on any housework, no matter how easy it may be. Pots and pans clicked and clanged in the kitchen as you tried chopping some fruit in order to give to your dear friend as a treat - only to then accidentally cut your finger against the sharp blade. Regardless, you haphazardly threw the slices in a neat white bowl, the tart juice of the fruit sticking onto your fingers as you watched him from the window's corner.
Thank the stars, his back was turned. Those toned muscles of his were on full display, broad back and shoulders so bright, sweaty and perfect, as if a god himself had handcrafted him from top to bottom. His white hair clung to his forehead, the salty sweat so very clearly dripping down his biceps as he jumped off a tree unceremoniously, almost like an animal.
His cheeky grin was no better.
Phainon held a simple tin bucket and it was filled to the brim with various goodies which were in season from your garden, cherries and strawberries most notably. That saccharine smile of his almost made you drop everything, the ever growing urge to just kiss him becoming impossible to handle. And oh, how Phainon had graciously offered to help with picking your fruits, the way he so cheerfully ran up to you like an adorable little boy, his wide blue eyes filled with sincerity and a delectable sort of intensity, as if he was not willing to take no for an answer.
"I'll gladly pay you." you had told him, a happy grin on your maroon red lips. Phainon shook his head at that, his eyes not so subtly tracking the corners of the very same lips.
You pretended not to notice.
"Come now, don't be like that! If you want, I can even give you some of the fruit!" you told him wistfully, eyes wide as you pouted playfully at him. The man could not help but to let out a chuckle at the cheeky display, his chest positively rumbling with amusement as his voice suddenly dropped, the timbre lowering to a degree you never heard from him before.
"Don't worry." he said, his blue eyes blazing.
"I'll be sure not to leave empty handed."
With a start, he suddenly turned his head to look at you, as if he could sense your very life essence. Making eye contact, you almost dropped the bowl completely, some of bits and pieces of the fruit scampering elsewhere.
Curses. His senses were too sharp for your own good. You just hoped he wasn't aware that you were so shamelessly oogling him, daydreaming about flat out licking off the liquid sin off his body, fingers grazing those pure locks and tugging like the wretched little thing you were.
Phainon didn't even grant you the luxury of finishing the daydream as he now stood directly in front of your window, a large finger tapping against the glass politely three times. Opening it in a rush you pressed yourself forward against the window sill, cheeks blazing with heat as you looked down at him with a cheerful smile. A giggle erupted from the back of your throat, the desire to call out his messy and dirty appearance too great. Just as you were about to say something witty, all of the air was knocked out of your lungs as Phainon's large palm pressed itself at the back of your head. Pushing your body a bit forward, Phainon stood just a bit on his tiptoes, those gems for eyes so full of life and... And something else you could never quite pinpoint.
"Time to pay up." said Phainon as he licked his lips in a gleeful manner. Just as you were about to offer him the bowl, the man lunged forward and pressed his lips against your own. Gasping, your cheeks became hotter than the sun itself as Phainon closed his eyes, his lips moving in tandem as he let out a long, drawn out sigh. It was if he was feasting on your body, a piece of sweetness offered up for him on a silver platter, all his to devour and enjoy. You felt how his fingers tugged at the back of your head, fingernails gently digging into your scalp in order to tilt your chin, granting him even greater access to your being.
He took his time, the kiss more a force of nature rather than contact between two human beings. It was as if your soul was set ablaze, the flames flickering forward for more and he took it all for himself, never once easing up.
With what felt like near suffocation creeping up, Phainon pulled away, his movements slow and deliberate. He cackled softly to himself, the wicked sound most likely not meant for your ears but it was still heard regardless of his intentions. He sighed, his pale chest heaving with air as he licked off the spit from the corner of his lips, never breaking eye contact with you.
"Mmm, you sure do know how to treat people well." he said with a lazy tone, as if he was planning to dive right back in. You stared back at him with wide eyes, mouth hanging wide open as he cackled once more, the hand at the back of your head now slithering closer towards your lips, his fingers gently dabbing away your own spit, his fingers now coated with the liquid.
"Don't look at me like that. I said I'd get my payment, right?"
His tone was firm, commanding even, as if he was speaking the sheer truth, as if you were the silly one for thinking that he would take nothing. His gaze finally shifted back to your garden, the wind gently caressing the green leaves which hung on the trees, the scenery practically tranquil, save for the devil before you.
"I'm not done yet you know. And I do require adequate payment. It wouldn't be fair otherwise, yeah?"
By everything that was holy and above - how would your raging heart ever recover from this? As if he could supernaturally sense your distress, Phainon gently let go of you, his fingers softly toying with locks of your hair.
"Don't go anywhere." he said sweetly.
"I don't mind you watching."
Busted.
Even so, he continued, his voice gaining an odd edge to it.
"I hope no one else receives such delectable payment from you..."
His voice trails off so casually, like he's talking about the weather. The tips of his fingers dance around your hair, as if he doesn't want to let go.
Do you even want him to go?
Like a whisper in the wind, Phainon breaks free from the spell he cast upon himself, his back now fully turned towards you. He craddles his lips as he grabs another bucket, his heart thumping as if it was pumped with liquid sugar.
He'd eat you alive if he could.
You just didn't need to know that.

NOTES. had a great idea of making a time travel au while writing clipped wings (a venti fic i decided to discontinue), but it didn’t rlly make sense for me to implement it into that fic, so i decided to make it its own fic instead. Aether shuffled his way through the busy streets of Mondstadt, craning his neck to look for the ever playful bard.
This time of year had rolled around once again: the time of the Windblume Festival.
Mondstadt was a romantic and free city, without the rule of royalty. And although many years had passed since the people last saw their beloved archon, he still wandered the streets as a carefree bard— an archon hidden in plain sight, though his "disguise" actually should've given him away a long time ago.
At the sound of singing, Paimon gasped and grabbed Aether's attention by pulling on his arm. "Look!" She pointed ahead, where Venti had been standing in front of the mighty statue of Barbatos. "The tone-deaf bard is performing again! Let's get closer!" She floated above the heads of the crowd, glancing back at Aether while he struggled to get to the front.
Akin to Venti's many other songs, this one told a story of a harrowing tale. Of a love found through festivals and flowers, of a maiden with stars in her eyes and a smile as warm as the sun.
She was as beautiful as the sky on a cloudless night, with grace like that of royalty. Every word she spoke flowed off her tongue like liquid gold, and each press of her fingertips were as light as a feather. Crafted from the finest marble and made to be worshipped like a goddess.
She fell in love with a boy, one filled with determination and courage. A boy who cared a little too much for others and never for himself.
A boy who sought freedom, up until the very end.
The story continued, with the girl clueless as to the boy's death. Not having witnessed his final moments and final words, she was left in the dark, never to know he passed on because his form was taken on by someone else.
His memory was preserved, and she found him after a long while of wandering on her own. Tears were shed, and wine was brewed in celebration, and as the Anemo Archon bestowed a blessing of protection onto her, he whispered to her through the wind and together they created what was now known to be the Windblume Festival.
The people of Mondstadt joined in, and the tradition was carried down through the generations. The song ended on a happy note, but Aether could sense there was something more to the story.
As the people around him clapped for Venti's stellar performance and eventually dispersed, Aether took his chance to finally speak with the bard.
"Ah, Aether! Paimon!" Venti greeted with a smile, his voice a little strained. There was something clearly wrong. "How are you enjoying another Windblume Festival? Is it as exciting as the others?"
Paimon hummed excitedly. "Mhm! It's so nice seeing the city decked out! And I bet you're having the time of your life with all this wine too!" She pointed accusingly to the wine left at the foot of the Barbatos statue, along with multiple bouquets of cecilias.
Venti laughed nervously before clearing his throat. "Shh!" He brought a finger to his lips and spoke softly, "Don't blow my cover!"
"Who was that song about?" Aether questioned, getting straight to the point instead of beating around the bush.
He knew Venti was familiar with whomever was in that ballad, as he knew many people throughout history and was knowledgeable on many events. He knew how the Golden Apple Archipelago was formed (because he was behind it), the history of all the festivals in Mondstadt (because he created them), and especially— what happened 2,600 years ago during the reign of Decarabian.
Venti's face fell, a solemn smile adorning his lips. "Ah, that. Nothing gets past you, does it?" He tried to lighten the mood with a small laugh. He sighed, "Meet me at Old Mondstadt. I'll tell you the story in full there. But first, there's something I must do. I'll see you there."
Aether nodded, watching as Venti disappeared into a gust of wind and dandelions. He followed the bard's orders and began to trek into the mountains, ignoring Paimon's theories and complaints on the way.
The wind blew especially hard here, a testament to the ruins that withstood time. He wandered the outskirts as he waited for Venti, taking in the breathtaking scenery.
A gust of wind blew his braid around, and he squinted his eyes until it died down a little. There was no doubt in his mind that that had been Venti making a grand entrance. He turned to his right, and sure enough, his suspicions were correct. The lonesome bard stood there with a look of nostalgia in his eyes and a small bouquet of cecilias in his hand.
"It was over two thousand years ago, before the fall of Decarabian," he began, his tone turning serious. Aether could tell he was no longer talking to Venti, and was now speaking with Barbatos. There was always a notable difference between the two.
Venti was a carefree bard who represented the true meaning of freedom. He had no worries and lived everyday to its fullest. He traveled the world and sang songs from the past, present, and even the future. He was jovial and exceptionally fun to be around. Barbatos on the other hand, was on the calmer and wiser side. He was full of regrets, and although being labeled the god of freedom, he wasn't free in the slightest. He carried the memories of his fallen friends, and held a deep rooted fear of the heavens above. He's seen the cruelty of the world, experienced it for himself, and drank his worries away until he felt numb.
He was kind and gentle towards his people, loved them with all his heart and protected them from threats. He promised them everlasting freedom, even if it meant giving up his own in turn for it. He never abandoned them, and always listened to the prayers they whispered along the wind. He tried his best to answer said prayers, giving hope to his people and blessing them with joyful days. He walked among them, saw them as equals and never as inferior.
Among the gods Aether has met, two have struck a serious chord within him. The gods of freedom and wisdom, two who were the kindest and most loving.
"I met a girl..." Venti continued, taking a sharp inhale. "Well... my friend did. The two of them met during the rebellion. They loved each other dearly, and before I knew what was happening, I had also fallen in love with her." He paused for a moment, collecting his thoughts.
"I watched as they lived out their days happily together, despite what was going on. I thought it cruel to wish that was me loving her instead of him, but... I supported them, because that was the only thing I could do." He swallowed the lump forming in his throat. "And then it happened... my friend passed, and his final words to me were a song. I ascended to godhood not long after, and brought his memory back into the world."
"And now his form represents what the Anemo Archon looks like..." Aether said softly, receiving a slow nod in return. It was crazy to think about that: that the Anemo Archon statue in the city, and the statues of The Seven littered throughout Mondstadt depicted the nameless bard's form, and not Barbatos'. In fact, he never realized that until now.
"I couldn't let his memory be forgotten." Venti shook his head. "And now it never will be." A small silence passed as the three of them let that fact sink in. Venti closed his eyes and continued his story. "After his death and my ascension, I found her again. She was older— she was a mortal after all. And her beautiful features had not changed at all. Our reunion was bittersweet, as it wasn't me she was looking at, but my friend. It hurt, but I dared not tell her my true identity.
"We continued on, and I got to love her in his stead. I wrote her poems and sang her ballads, even sung some of the ones he dedicated to her. As the Anemo Archon and the god of freedom, I sought out peace and freedom for my people. I made festivals, one of them being the Windblume Festival. I dedicated the festival of love and cheer to her, and in the song I wrote about her, I tweaked the story a little.
"I changed it so that both her and I created the Windblume Festival. That way, she would always be a huge part of Mondstadt's history. Just like my friend."
"What happened after?" Paimon asked, a little too invested into this story. So much so, that she didn't realize how much of an impact her question had on him.
He bit his lip, his eyes turning glossy as he looked down at the cecilias he held tightly in his hands. "She died, never knowing what truly happened to the one she loved, and never knowing that I am Barbatos." The wind picked up, a clear sign of his bubbling emotions, and he made quick work to calm down. He couldn't be seen like this, vulnerable and upset. It tarnished his image as a jovial bard.
He led them inside the ruined tower, descending a few sets of stairs until they reached a spacious room. He walked ahead as the other two gawked in wonder, and knelt down next to a masterless vision. Her vision. He placed the bouquet of cecilias overtop of the vision, closing his eyes and paying his respects before he stood back up.
"It's okay, though. She didn't need to know that I am Barbatos to know that I loved her."

author’s notes: didn't realize until after i wrote this that the windblume festival was created FOR the anemo archon & not by him 💀 mb ig

WITH LOVE, ETERNALLY,
summary: over two thousand years have passed since that fateful dawn that marked freedom for all in mondstadt. two millennia that have flown by in the blink of an eye… but despite the changes mondstadt has faced, one thing stays the same: the winds of time.
pairing: venti x fem!reader
a/n: ik i’m 2 days late, but a small bday drabble to celebrate our favorite bard’s bday!! (the mc in this is the same mc from thus always to tyrants). NOT EDITED AND VERY RUSHED. yes there is diluc x venti if u squint. im a multishipper guys
cw: angst.
Tumblr media
Angel’s Share was bustling with activity. During the Spring and Summer seasons, business would boom exponentially.
Tonight’s warm Summer night was no different. The gentle, honeyed glow from the lights was inviting as he took one step into the crowded tavern. The sight of so many people made him wonder if they should expand the tavern to fit more people.
If they did that, it would surely end up looking like a tavern from his more than distant past. A tavern owned by a small, kind family that ended up as worshippers of Barbatos after their previous god had passed away.
His memory was still clear. Those days could never be stolen from him, not even when erosion would surely catch up to him. He would always remember… because those memories of a bygone past were more valuable to him than anything.
A small smile pulled at his lips as he watched a small group of youngsters jump up in pure joy over a game of TCG. It warmed his heart to see his children so happy. They deserved to live carefree and joyous lives.
If a day came where their freedom would be threatened once more, he would step up like he did before and help them fight for it. As long as he was alive, he would ensure the people of Mondstadt were safe and free in this land of wind.
The bar was packed, each stool being taken up by a drunkard. A small pout formed on his lips. He loved sitting by the bar, especially when Diluc was manning the counter.
Diluc didn’t come by very often, but when he did, Mondstadt’s drunken Archon would show up each time, demanding a drink.
The reason for why he only showed up when Diluc was working eluded the red haired man, but he gave up trying to understand the bard’s flowery words and unusual antics a long time ago.
The answer was simple, though Diluc didn’t know that. The bard just loved to chat with anyone and everyone, and that included him. Some of his best conversations happened with Diluc, Jean, Diona, and Klee.
Sometimes Bennett as well, but the white haired boy was a magnet for destruction. Despite how much bad luck the boy harbored, he had a relatively positive mindset. Whenever he ran into Venti in the wilderness, the two would only get to talk for a few seconds before Bennett ran off because he was being chased by a boar.
Diluc didn’t need to ask questions. As soon as he turned around and saw the pouty bard standing there, he let out a sigh and began preparing a glass of dandelion wine. Venti sent him a wide smile and headed up to the second floor, where significantly less people sat.
He hummed softly as he strummed a chord on his lyre. A fleeting thought passed through his mind, and he wondered if he should head back downstairs and play a few songs first. If he played a classic, the people would get rowdy and then it would truly feel like he was back in the North Wind Tavern.
His eyes darted up, and he stopped in his tracks. His throat ran dry as he saw you sitting in the corner, gazing out the window and watching people pass by. He usually found you like this: alone and pondering.
Ever since you returned, you were often quiet and less talkative. You had been quite the introvert to begin with, but now you were even more of a recluse.
Of course, he knew the reason why.
Yet, his heart still lurched whenever he saw you. It always would… because he would never stop loving you, despite the fact that the both of you agreed to interact as less as possible.
Even though nine months had passed since then, and you claimed it was better for the two of you to go your separate ways, he could still hear every word you spoke on the wind.
He heard every prayer, every mutter, every cry. He didn’t understand why you kept uttering prayers, but maybe it was some hidden code to let him know you still thought of him.
Your eyes met his, and his blood ran cold. He stared at you for a few moments more, and then the unthinkable happened. You beckoned him over to the table you were occupying.
With a hesitant step forward, he did so. He wouldn’t pass up this opportunity to talk to you. It had been way too long. He took a seat, eyeing the mug of beer that sat on your left.
So you still drank that ghastly stuff, huh? He preferred wine. He always did. And you always preferred beer— specifically the kind your brother brewed every Weinlesefest.
He wondered if your brother was still living in Dornman Port. If he still had two cats and was working as a transport guide. Would he be prying if he asked?
“Here you go,” Diluc’s smooth voice drew him from his stupor.
A glass of dandelion wine with a cecilia hanging off the side of the glass was placed in front of him, along with a small envelope. His brows furrowed in confusion.
“Happy Birthday.” A hint of a smile was on Diluc’s face as he watched Venti’s lip wobble.
He remembered his birthday? With shaking hands, he opened the envelope, finding a beautiful card inside. The card was sturdy and one-sided, with intricate flowery designs on the edges and a cute drawing of his statue in the center next to elegant calligraphy.
He assumed Jean had made this, or at the very least, had written the message on the card that read:
“Happy Birthday Venti!
I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done and continue to do for Mondstadt and its citizens. Even if I had thanked you a thousand times over, it still would not be enough.
It would not hold a candle to the love and care you have stored in your heart for all of us. You are kind, gentle, compassionate, and sincere. Your songs bring us joy, and your everlasting winds promise freedom for many millennia to come.
We owe you everything and more for your protection all these years and your continuous fight for freedom and peace for all. We will cherish what you have given us, and we will continue to honor the winds you bless us with.
May the Wind be ever-present and everlasting.
With many thanks, and very happy birthday,
Jean Gunnhildr, Diluc Ragnvindr, and the Knights”
His hands shook as he gripped tightly to the card. He bit down hard on his lip, a futile attempt to stop himself from breaking down in front of other people.
He couldn’t help it, not when Jean’s words had touched his heart so deeply. He was not deserving of thanks. The people of Mondstadt had always fought for themselves and their freedom. He hardly did anything.
He kept denying each claim thrown his way. He was not the one to thank for anything. He did not deserve such praise. It was all them— the people. It was all them— the Four Winds. If not for them, Mondstadt would not be standing tall like it was.
His shoulders heaved as tears fell from his eyes and stung his cheeks. A realization passed through his mind, but he refused to believe it. He wouldn’t believe it, because that would be quite selfish.
If not for him, Mondstadt wouldn’t even be here.
He denied that thought too. He would deny it all, because all the things he did for Mondstadt were small and menial.
A prayer entered his ears just then, and he suddenly went stiff. He glanced up, his red and teary eyes meeting yours. A tear slid down his cheek once more as he was met with a soft expression on your face.
He hasn’t seen that look from you in a long time. He swallowed the lump in his throat and quickly wiped his tears, wanting to leave no trace that he had been crying. He took a long swig of the dandelion wine in front of him and sighed loudly as he slammed the glass back down onto the table.
He wished he had been drunk when he read that letter. That way, he wouldn’t have foolishly let his mask break like he did.
Diluc bid him one last ‘happy birthday’ and left, leaving him alone with you. You got up from your seat as soon as Diluc was out of sight, and took a seat next to Venti.
“Happy Birthday, Barbatos.” You said softly, holding out a small box and a card. You hoped he would take it, and he did— albeit hesitantly.
His hands were still shaking as he opened your card. The scent of fresh cecilias greeted him, and he wondered if you had scented the card. He took a deep breath, before he silently read out the message on your card.
“Happy Birthday,
The last time I said this, we were on top of the hands of your statue, overlooking the nation you worked so hard to build.
We were laughing, basking in the sun, and your wings enveloped me like a safety blanket. Whenever we were together, I felt safe and protected. I felt like nothing could harm me as long as I was right there by your side, tucked in your arms and hidden by your wings.
The last time we celebrated your birthday, we had gotten so incredibly wasted that Gwen and Klaus had to personally escort us home. The day after, well… I’m sure you remember what happened that night…
I often find myself missing them. All of our friends. And when I do, I think of you… and how heartbroken you must feel watching all of them go while you continue living.
One day, I will go too. And that’s part of the reason I left.
I miss the wine Gwen brewed during that one Weinlesefest. Do you remember it? She also made it for your birthday two years in a row. Did she continue making it every year after that?
I miss Klaus’ deadpan jokes. They remind me of Arbor. I often find myself missing Arbor, as well, despite everything.
Ah, sorry for getting all emotional all of a sudden. But that’s what we both do best, huh?
Happy Birthday My Beloved Barbatos. Even if we are far apart and we have decided our paths should not cross any longer, I miss you dearly. And I will always love you.
May this birthday be one of many, many more to come. May the Wind live on forever in this world, as well as the memory of you and Kairos.
Just as Gwen always said: ‘As long as the wind blows, Barbatos will protect Mondstadt.’
With love, eternally,
(Name)”
He felt the warmth of your lips a final time under the lights of the tavern, with a heavy heart hammering inside his chest.

from faults, favors, failures, and the truth (love alone isn't enough)
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: no matter how hard he tried, venti could not keep himself from failing you over and over again.
PAIRING: venti x gn!reader
TAGLIST ! @wystiix @pixelcafe-network
warnings: blood, slight self harm
word count: 617
notes: hey guys... sorry in advance teehee. im incapable of writing anything except angst, im convinced LMAO. im also incapable of writing anything but angst for venti specifically, as well 😭 erm anyw this is mostly based off yaelokre's song "to douse a scalded tongue" that ive been brainrotting over ever since they first sung it on a livestream back in october. enjoy!!
Tumblr media
Everything was a blur. The world was dark. His whole body felt numb.
In front of him, the world was bathed in a sea of gray and red. The air was still and thick with smoke, yet he could only stare straight ahead at the figure lying lifeless on the burnt grass. There was a terrible ringing in his ears, akin to that of a tolling bell looming ominously in the distance.
He should’ve known. He should’ve been more aware. He should’ve kept a better eye on things. And yet, he hadn’t. And now, here he was, standing all alone amongst a sea of corpses, taking in the strong scent of iron.
He felt like a bystander to it all. One moment, the world was alive and he was at peace. The next, his whole body had gone rigid as the sky split open and calamity reigned over the earth. And suddenly, the beast lingering underneath his skin had crawled out of the hole it called home; baring its fangs at anyone who dared to get close.
With a sharp intake of breath, he stepped forward. The rubble under his feet pierced his skin, but he couldn’t feel it over the numbness of his limbs. He got closer— every step a careful one, as if he was a wary dove waiting to fly away at any sign of nearby movement.
His legs wobbled. He collapsed to his knees, the skin breaking open and starting to bleed. He reached out a shaky hand that lingered for a few moments too long in the air before coming to rest on your bare arm. He slowly leaned over to get a look at your face, lifeless and mauled.
He flinched back, his hand covering his mouth as tears clouded his vision once more. The world went dark again as he pulled at his scalp, the aching in his chest building with each breath he took in.
Breathing? How could he breathe when you could not? How could he sit here and feel, when you did not?
How could he still be alive… when you were not.
The frustration rose, as did his anger, as he let out a scream that had been gnawing at his throat for far too long. His fingers curled in, his nails digging so hard into his palms that he could feel the warm trickle of blood.
He pounded his fists into the rubble— he’d do so as many times as he needed to in order to soothe the pain. In order to feel numb again. In order to forget.
He’d sit and wail, scream, curse the heavens, douse his tongue into scalding tea, until all sense of failure left his being. He’d rip out his feathers and tear his already broken wings to shreds all just to stop the aching.
Because in the end, he had failed you— in more ways than just one. He had raised his voice at you, cast you out of his land, all because of a misunderstanding. He was unable to save you when you needed him most— when you called out to him before your last breath. The wind had brought your pleas to his ears, but by the time he arrived, it had been too late.
He failed you. This was all because of him. Tears cascaded down his cheeks. No amount of self-pity would fix the hurt in his heart, and no amount of tears would be able to bring you back to him. No amount of apology could fix what happened, and none of the measures he took to ensure your survival from them had worked.
And most importantly…
No amount of love had been enough.

Light In The Darkness
Tumblr media
summary: venti isn't often vulnerable with you, but the one time he is is when he needs a whole lot of reassurance. and you have no problem giving him just that: expressing just how much he means to you.
pairing: jealous!venti x gn!reader
cws: slight angst, hurt/comfort
notes: originally posted this a few hours ago but quickly realized that i made a mistake bc the req was for a jealous mc instead of venti 😭
so instead i’ll post two versions!! this one is the venti version, and the mc version will be posted hopefully tmrw!

A bard was well-versed in all things poetry. It was their job to serenade those around them.
It was no surprise to you that your lover’s angelic voice touched the hearts of many. After all, that was his job— to sing and dance and play the lyre throughout all corners of the world, gaining popularity as he did so.
Sometimes, you thought the popularity got to his head a little. All those compliments and love struck looks from both men and women alike definitely stroked his ego to a degree.
He could do without all that praise, you thought, watching from afar as your lover sang a classic tale that was well known in Mondstadt. He gets enough praise from the church.
You were well aware he was the Anemo Archon. It was easy to put two and two together after taking a glance at the statue in the center of the city.
Tapping your fingers along to the classic tale, you failed to notice the figure of the Traveler approaching your all but empty table. Aether and Paimon greeted you eagerly, their faces a welcome sight after not having seen them in months.
A smile broke out onto your face instantly. You returned their sentiments, and the three of you fell into idle chatter about their recent journeys. Before long, you were laughing loudly like you always did when Aether came to visit.
He and Paimon were no strangers to the City of Freedom. They often stopped by for a visit around the festival seasons, though this year they had missed the annual Windblume Festival because of a music event in Inazuma.
You hounded them for missing the festival, though it was all lighthearted fun. You told them about Venti’s performance during the Windblume Festival, and how he gained the hearts of many afterwards.
“Wow, sounds like the Tone-Deaf Bard is doing as well as ever.” Paimon’s deadpan expression made you chuckle.
“Indeed. I think he could do without having his ego stroked all the time, but he really is an amazing performer, so I guess it’s alright.” You said.
Paimon huffed and crossed her arms. “Still! He should at least be a bit humble!” She tossed a glare in his direction. “Who knew the Anemo Archon could be so greedy!”
You sighed, a laugh tumbling out of your mouth. It was good to know that Paimon was the same as always. Aether looked just about ready to leave Paimon here, what with all her grumbling and complaining. You were happy to see them in good health.
An hour later, the two were bidding you farewell, claiming they had to knock some commissions for the Adventurer’s Guild out before sundown.
“Take care of yourselves, alright? If you need us, you know where to find us. Please do stop by sometime soon!” you told them with a smile, “Venti bought a vintage recently and we’ve been saving it for a special occasion. It would be the perfect time to break it open!”
“Sure thing!” Aether nodded with a kind smile. “See you around!”
You watched them leave with a small smile on your face before you directed your attention back to Venti. The bard was entertaining a group of drunkards, singing an old Mondstadt tale. It was one you’ve heard only a handful of times.
In the past, it was extremely popular in Mondstadt. However, as the years came and went, it grew to be forgotten amongst the people. As you watched Venti light up with life and rile up the patrons he was singing to, you realized he was doing his best to bring back those old, forgotten melodies.
The door to the tavern creaked open, and from your table near the bar, you could see Diluc take a huge sigh. That could only mean one thing…
“(Name)! Why, it’s quite the pleasure to see you here.” Kaeya’s smooth and charming voice entered your ears.
“Well if it isn’t Captain Kaeya!” You beamed, standing from your seat to give him a nice big hug.
It had been a few months since you’ve seen him last. The last time you saw him was four months ago when he left for Fontaine to speak with a few merchants there on behalf of the Knights of Favonius. Since then, your days were a little duller without his presence.
Though, the void left behind by your best friend was quickly filled by the affections from your lover.
Kaeya chuckled, the sound buzzing in your ear as you kept your head to his chest. “Miss me while I was gone? It’s not like you to get all emotional.”
You pulled from the hug and slapped his arm playfully. “Of course I missed you! Can I not miss my best friend?”
The two of you began catching up as Kaeya called for a few drinks. Diluc sent him a glare as he placed the drinks down on the table, warning him not to order too many, before he retreated back to the bar.
The more you talked and laughed with Kaeya, the more you realized just how much you missed him. It felt like the two of you were kids again, when the both of you were training to become knights and didn’t have to worry about anything at all.
All the while, a shiver ran down your spine as you felt the weight of divine eyes peering at you from afar. This was a feeling you commonly had; whenever you were on a commission for the Adventurer’s Guild, or more importantly, hanging out with Kaeya.
The feeling of a divine force watching you so closely was a little frightening, but knowing where the source was coming from made it less scary and more intriguing.
You knew what your lover’s divinity felt like by now after having been around him for so long. It was a slight pressure on your shoulders, a shiver running up your spine, and a soft breeze that mysteriously came from nowhere. It was quite ominous, though you supposed that word described him perfectly.
In these situations, you knew he was staring at you and Kaeya with that adorable pout on his face and waiting for the right time to pounce on you like a cat. Then, he’d drag you away and the two of you would cuddle and you would whisper words of affection in his ear to assure him how much you loved him and only him.
And so, you waited for the moment he’d interrupt your conversation.
Kaeya was always the type of best friend that made you laugh until your stomach hurt, and playfully flirted with you just because. He was loyal to a fault and not as honest as you wished he could be. But he had always been there for you, a light in the darkness when you needed him.
Gradually, over time, Venti filled that spot of being your light in the darkness, but no one could replace your best friend.
You and Kaeya had been inseparable in your youth, along with Diluc, who tagged along with you both. So, naturally, your bond was quite strong. It stayed that way between both of you even after he told you the truth of his origins.
As he opened his mouth— a teasing smile on his lips that made you realize he was about to ask how you and Venti were doing —your lover in question slid his arms around your neck and dug his face into your collarbone.
You caressed his arm lovingly and placed a kiss to the side of his head. You sighed, a dopey smile pulling at your lips. He was no doubt faking being drunk to pull you away from Kaeya.
“Hi my love,” you said sweetly, “did you drink too much?”
He grumbled into your skin, and that was enough to confirm he was only doing this because he wanted your attention all to himself. It made you laugh loudly, your chest bubbling with life as the sound rolled out of your mouth.
Venti couldn’t help but smile. He loved the sound of your laugh more than anything, especially when he was the cause of it. He adored bringing you happiness and joy. He adored hearing your melodic laugh. He gripped you tighter, not wanting to let you go just yet.
“Well, I think this is where our fun ends, Kaeya,” you told him with a smirk, “I should get this one home.”
He returned your look with a knowing one of his own. He was very familiar with Venti’s antics by now. “No worries. We’ll continue catching up another time. Be safe on the way back to Springvale.”
You ruffled his hair like you always did when you were children. “We will. Stop by sometime, you’re no stranger.”
Standing up, you removed Venti’s arms from around your neck and relocated them to your waist, knowing he wouldn’t be letting go anytime soon.
Outside, the chilly nighttime air was refreshing on your hot skin. You ran your fingers through Venti’s hair and let out a content sigh.
“You know,” you started, a teasing lilt in your voice, “if you wanted my attention so badly, all you had to do was ask.”
Venti looked up at you with that adorable pout you were always so fond of. You cupped his face in your hands as he let out a small whine.
“Were you jealous, my love?”
Stubbornly, he looked away. “No—“
“Uh-huh, sure. I know how you get when you’re jealous.”
He bit his lip before all his worries came tumbling out of his mouth like a broken dam. “How can I not be? Kaeya’s always flirting with you and making you laugh! Sometimes I don’t know whether or not the way you smile at him is… is for something else.”
Venti was not one for being vulnerable. He absolutely despised sharing his true feelings, and preferred to bottle things deeply inside his person. For him to tell you how he felt in this moment was a huge step forward.
It not only meant he trusted you deeply, but it also made you realize that the effort you were helping him put in with his emotions was working. It touched your heart, but his words broke it all over again.
You kissed him, sweet and slow like he always enjoyed. When you pulled away, you placed your forehead on his and smiled.
“For you, I would go against the heavens and sooner make myself an enemy of the divine. I’d follow you to the edge of the world— hell, to the far reaches of the universe just because I love you. My heart and soul are yours, Barbatos.”
You could see it: the way he tried so hard to mask his sadness and how much he tried to avoid letting any tears spill. He inhaled shakily, squeezing his eyes shut in another attempt to deter his cries.
In the end, it was all futile, as the tears fell from his eyes like waterfalls anyway. This time, you waited for him to make the first move, and he did.
After a few moments, he searched for your lips and brought you into a slow, passionate kiss. It was a kiss that told you how much he appreciated your words, as well as one that so very obviously conveyed his undying love.
When he pulled away, he let out a small, sheepish laugh. “I’m sorry for that, love.” His cheeks were red with embarrassment.
“Don’t be,” you told him softly, forcing him to look at you, “Never be sorry for that. Thank you for sharing how you truly feel.”
He was eternally grateful to have you, someone so patient and understanding. He smiled, pressing a kiss to your palm that was on his cheek.
“I love you. To the far reaches of the universe and back.”
Hand in hand, you returned home, laughing all the while as he shared stories of the night’s events. Amidst the wind, he could hear both your hearts beating in unison.

The Regula Solis Epoch: Masterlist
Tumblr media
The Regula Solis Epoch takes place in a renaissance era— in a time where the golden age of the Remurian Empire loomed over the heads of the people of Teyvat.
Although each one includes the story of someone different, they all have one thing in common:
The Golden Age of Teyvat.
☀️
Volume I: Abandon Ship
(mermaid!neuvillette x fem!pirate!reader)
With one of the Remurian fleets hot on your tail and stolen treasure of the crown on your ship, you were ready to take to the Eastern Seas.
When one of your crewmates catches a mermaid of all things on the outskirts of the Dark Sea, you finally think you've hit the jackpot when it comes to treasure.
In the end, however, you come to a startling revelation: is all the treasure in the world really worth more than a life? And suddenly, you have to make a choice... either a huge sum of gold, or the man you've fallen head over heels in love with.
Volume II: Leaving London
(kazuha x gn!knight!reader)
The legendary pirate ship known as “The Alcor” has begun stirring up trouble in the Northern Seas. Although Queen Catalina does not see it as a threat, the General of the North Wind Knights thinks otherwise.
With the risk of angering the Queen on his hands, General Anton issues an order for all knights a part of the navy to seize every last one of The Alcor’s crew.
With no choice but to listen, you obediently set out to hunt down these pirates. However, it doesn’t exactly go according to plan when you cross blades with a foreigner to the Northern Winds.
Volume III: Flesh and Bone
(hunter!tartaglia x gn!werewolf!reader | ao3 exclusive)
The bitter cold forests of Snezhnaya were not kind, nor welcoming to humans. Lurking in the darkness of the tundra were glowing eyes and warning growls.
After being ardently warned to never trespass farther than the outline of trees meeting the wastelands, Ajax takes the risk and crosses to the frozen tundra. With a bag slung over his shoulder and a determination to show his father that the wastelands were fit to be hunting grounds, he readied his bow.
Amidst the hunt, he finds a wounded wolf on the brink of death. Deciding to show it mercy and heal its wounds, Ajax soon finds that this “wolf” is not your normal run of the mill animal… and taking it back to the village was a grave mistake.
Volume IV: Kaleidoscope
(criminal!xiao x fem!adventurer!reader)
Being called to serve Lady Iris, you were expecting just about anything to be asked of you. However, being tasked to watch over a prisoner who stole from King Remus’ grand vault was something else entirely.
Amidst your journey to retrieve this item, you begin to wonder if the prisoner you were tasked to watch over is even a prisoner at all. He makes no move to escape, and it seems as if he does not plan on talking to you. Finding the exact item he stole was not easy either, and it appears that your journey will get worse as the truth slowly unravels.
In the end, you find yourself wondering who is to be trusted: the foreigner from Liyue, or Lady Iris, who bore no hesitation in sending your friends to their deaths.
Volume V: Masquerade
(lyney x fem!vampire!reader)
As a descendant of the noble Edana line, you grew up with an ardent belief that humans were entirely food and nothing more.
For centuries, you live holed up in your family’s manor, your boredom growing tenfold with each new decade that passes.
Eventually having enough of your boring, high class lifestyle, you step onto the streets for the first time in almost a millennia, looking for something to satiate your interest.
This comes in the form of a budding magician, who wants nothing more than to break down your walls and show you what the world looks like in blinding color. A world that wasn’t coated in gray, and a love that wasn’t forged in blood oaths.
Volume VII: Ambrosia
(venti x fem!dancer!reader | ao3 exclusive)
It was time for the annual Festival of the North Winds in the eastern kingdom of Mondstadt.
Amidst the preparations for the festival, a wandering bard arrives in the bustling city. Without a clue on this bard's origin, the people of the city welcome him and his talent for music with open arms.
Venti soon finds himself in a predicament when a dancer from a foreign nation steals his audience time and time again. As one who would not back down from a challenge, Venti decides to entertain her and participate in her game.
However, when she mysteriously disappears the night before her performance at the festival, Venti realizes it is up to him to go find her. He doesn't realize that he would get himself wrapped up in a feud between an ex-soldier and the army of Snezhnaya.

author’s note: the “regula solis epoch” is a project i have been working on for literal months now. it takes place a few hundred years before the archon war and is completely canon divergent. i tried to incorporate as much remuria lore as i could. i hope that all of you enjoy reading these as much as i will writing them. each fic will be released in order, so “abandon ship” will be first on the list! if you’d like to be added to the taglist for any and/or all of these upcoming fics, then leave a comment or send a msg to my inbox!

❛ ── BETWIXT TIRESOME WAR ❜
Tumblr media
⤷ synopsis. it was a poet's job to string tales of heroes, yet you weren't quite expecting for kremnos' crown prince to be your muse.

The off-key note rang in the hurried air of Marmoreal Market as you sat on a street corner, tuning your lute. The overpopulated holy city was bustling at this time of day. You watched carefully as men and women roamed the streets, carrying baskets of fruits and bread.
A smile pulled at your lips as you hopped to your feet— your lute now fully tuned and ready to be played —and strummed a chord.
The heads of passersby turned at the sound, their curiosity piqued. You strummed another chord, slowly falling into a familiar rhythm that you’ve played countless times all over the lands.
“Gather ‘round, for I shall string you the tale of the almighty Huntress— they who tore down the banners of Kremnos and slayed a beast with naught but their own bare hands!”
The people flocked like birds, gathering around at the sound of your voice and the prospect of a divine tale. Fixing your footing, you let the winds caress your form. Your eyes fell closed and you exhaled softly, letting the music guide you as the lyrics to a song you’ve sung countless times flowed from your mouth.
“The Dissembled Poet of Okhema” was a title known throughout the entirety of the holy city. You’ve paraded the streets of Marmoreal Market an indefinite amount of times, carrying nothing on your person except for the lute in your hands.
As far as anyone was concerned, you had always been present in the holy city. There were numerous bards throughout the land. However, those with keen eyes had seen through your innocent act. They knew you showed up one day out of nowhere, acting as if you had always resided in Okhema.
That was the case with the Crown Prince of Kremnos, Mydeimos. This hadn’t been your first meeting, nor was it the first time he’d seen you lingering on street corners. Bards were flamboyant and harmless, singing the tales of heroes and gods alike. He paid no mind to them, but when it came to you— the Dissembled Poet —he couldn’t help but watch your every move. Like a lion stalking its prey, he watched from afar.
Twirling a cup of pomegranate juice in his palm, he listened to the tale you were entertaining your crowd with. It was the infamous tale of a Huntress from Kremnos, a warrior who was feared by both the people of Kremnos and the gods alike. With their bare hands, they had slain a gigantic beast— just like the founder of Kremnos had done all those years ago. The Huntress was a renowned figure, worshipped by all Kremnoans before the city fell to the black tide.
Now, their tale was no more than a legend. Rumors had spread years ago when the Huntress mysteriously disappeared. A few rumors told of how the Huntress was displeased with the royal family and therefore made the choice to leave Kremnos. Another told of how they angered Nikador in some way, and were banished from the city-state. The most popular rumor had been that they had given up living the life of a warrior and fled to a land unknown and untouched, away from mortal eyes.
They were nothing but brainless rumors, dishonoring the life the warrior had once lived. Why focus so much on something so insignificant instead of focusing on the legacy they left behind?
All warriors with reasonable hearts and tenacious spirits were respected in Mydei’s eyes. Good warriors were those who upheld their ideals and fought justly instead of blindly. Tarnishing one’s legacy with imprudent rumors was a crime of the highest degree.
The song ended, and you took a dramatic bow as the crowd roared with praise and applause. Your cheeks burned as the rush of adrenaline fled your body. It dissipated slowly, your heart hammering in your chest as your fingers tingled. You’d never get tired of the thrill that accompanied your performances.
Performing for others was your passion. The care you put into your songs and your poems was the kind of care a loving mother showed her children. With another, less dramatic bow, you spilled your thanks and eagerly took the money the crowd tossed you.
With a tip of your hat, you bid them all farewell. Some lingered, singing your praises as they complimented your work. You chatted idly with them, acutely aware of the piercing honey eyes staring at you from afar.
You noticed his presence a while ago. You’ve sensed it at every one of your performances. It was a weight that pressed down on your shoulders, pushing you towards the earth. A sort of wrath swirled underneath the surface, like a predator waiting for the perfect chance to pounce on its prey. However, you were far from prey.
The last person left, bidding you farewell with a bright smile. As soon as they left your field of vision, your easygoing smile dropped, and you turned your attention to the prince who had made it his mission to stalk you the last few weeks.
With a playful smirk, you met him halfway, slipping into an alley. Swinging your lute onto your back with a certain flair you knew he was incapable of, you leaned against the hard stone wall.
“You know, if you were so impressed by my performances, you could’ve just said so,” you began, gauging his reaction, “a prince so enthralled by my poetic charm is a great honor, Your Highness—”
You took a bow, and he held up a hand to stop you. His eyes were calculating, never leaving your form for a moment.
“We both know you’re not a mere bard.” He said coolly.
“Whatever could you mean? I’m ‘fraid I don’t quite follow.”
“Don’t play dumb. Your songs are from eons ago. The others may be blind, but I see right through you.”
A soft laugh escaped your lips. You sent him a tight-lipped smile. “My, do you have a fascination for music, dear Prince. To know all my songs, you must be a connoisseur! Tell you what, I’ll string you your own tale! One that tells of an Undying Prince who’s legacy lies in the blood of his enemies.”
His eye twitched, and you knew you had successfully gotten under his skin. Whatever it was that irked him, you didn’t know. You grabbed the end of your cape and tossed it in a flourish, leaving the alley before he could say anything else.
“It’ll be an epic for the ages! Murals painted in honor of my works, a tale passed down generations!”
You laughed as you ran down the streets, ignoring the yells of shopkeepers as you parkoured over their stalls and made your escape from the fierce lion chasing you down.
Tumblr media
Although writing a song for the infamous Prince of Kremnos had been a joke in the moment, you considered after long hours of deliberation that you had to make it a reality. A song that described the Prince’s feats in war, his loyalty to his homeland, and his deep rooted care for others was going to be a challenge.
You’ve written countless songs about heroes. You wrote one dedicated to another Chrysos Heir, Phainon. The man himself had found out quite quickly, and you got to chat with him once after performing it in the marketplace. The shine in his eyes as he gushed over the song was comparable to that of a thousand suns.
How would Kremnos’ Prince react to his own epic? Flattered? Humored, perhaps? Resigned?
The excitement of seeing his reaction was great, and you got straight to work. You put everything aside, shoving scrolls off your desk and making room for the first draft of your new project. A fire of determination coursed through you. The words seemed to come naturally, as if they had appeared on the parchment themselves.
Your hand had cramped up, but you paid no mind. You spent days and nights working on the song, tugging at your hair in frustration or smiling subconsciously because of a witty line.
For hours, you’d stay hunched over the parchment on your desk, fighting the urge to give in to sleep. The marketplace lay uncharacteristically silent those days, mourning the absence of the poet they revered so much.
It was only when an attack from Nikador’s titankin breached the holy city that you finally finished the song you had spent one long and grueling week over. Usually, it’d take you much longer to write such a tale, but the Prince of Kremnos had given you a burst of inspiration you never knew you needed.
Scrambling to fix yourself up, you hummed a tune under your breath. You’d return to the marketplace today with your new song ready to be sung and a new thrill coursing through your veins that you’ve never felt before.
The markets were bustling just like any other day, even though the recent attack on the city had garnered a widespread panic. With purpose in your steps and the desire to rouse the hearts of the people in your veins, you found an empty spot on the street. Without uttering a word to them, people stopped to listen to your magnificent voice.
You took a deep breath and began to strum the upbeat tune. The music stole you away, drifting you along in the wind to days of yore— a time before you had decided to endlessly wander the world.
The lyrics took you back to the past when you had been a warrior revered by the people of Kremnos. You had been held in such high regard, you were worshipped among the people. Not only as a warrior, but as a Huntress.
The familiar sensation of burning in your cheeks returned as your heart thrummed loudly in your chest. Your fingers tingled, on the brink of going numb from your passionate strumming. The ringing in your ears drowned out anything else, trapping you in the feverish memories of a past life you wished you could forget.
There was a reason you fled Kremnos.
The song ended with a rasp scream. Your shoulders heaved as you huffed. Your whole body felt numb, and you slowly returned to the present— the ringing in your ears ceasing, revealing the tense silence of the square.
You hesitantly looked up, measuring the expressions of the crowd. In an instant, they bellowed with cheers. Among the piercing yells and tightly packed crowd, you spotted the very person you had written the song for.
He was watching you carefully, like he always did, except now he was clapping along with the rest of the people around him. Pride welled within you as you took a bow.
You entertained the citizens who approached you, excitedly telling them the details of your new song. When they all dispersed, you tipped your hat to the Prince, who sauntered up to you with his arms crossed over his chest.
“That… wasn’t half bad.” He told you.
You hummed. “Well, I spent a whole week slumped over my desk working on it. I sure hope I—”
“I know you’re from Kremnos, you can drop the innocent act.”
Ah… so he did catch on. You knew your act of innocence would come to an end eventually. You sighed heavily. “Indeed. What gave it away?”
The way you had written his feats in the song were from a glorified standpoint. Only someone from Kremnos would describe battle in such a celebratory way. You might’ve fooled everyone around you, but you couldn’t fool the Crown Prince of Kremnos.
Your question was left unanswered, though you didn’t mind. He let out a soft sigh. “Thank you… for the glory you brought Kremnos in your words.”
You certainly weren’t expecting a ‘thank you,’ nor a compliment, but the Prince— although appearing apathetic —was grateful and honored to be your muse. You could see it in the way his expression softened.
With a smile, you bowed. “Of course, my Prince—”
“Enough with that. It’s Mydei.”
“Hm. Well then, the honor is mine, Mydei.”

notes. this fic is very dear to me bc it's self indulgent, like the mc is LITERALLY my s/i LMAO. i had sm fun writing the mc cause they're such a goober. also, they're supposed to be pretty masc in appearance, while their title of 'huntress' is feminine! androgynous king <3 i struggled a lot with mydei’s dialogue so im sorry if he sounded off TT also the title of this is the name of the song the mc wrote for mydei !!

THE FIRE, THE DARK — DAN HENG
“she’s all i want, now that i’m on my own, now that she’s really gone” …
on the days where his mind wasn’t occupied with the data bank or memories of his past life, his thoughts always drifted to you.
you, who always kept him warm with your body heat. you, who always filled the express with constant laughter and chatter. you, who never failed to distract him from his work. your smile that could light up an entire room and your joyful presence that beckoned others to you.
but he let you slip through his fingers. and now, his bed was cold and so was he. his room was quiet, almost devoid of life except for his soft breathing. the parlor car was empty, except for welt and himeko’s occasional whispers. breakfasts weren’t any fun anymore, not when you weren’t there to rile up march and shout “food fight!”
his life was dull without you, the fire that kept him going. now there was a different fire, but it didn’t burn as bright as you. it never would. now that you were gone, traveling elsewhere in the cosmos, you were all he ever wanted.
DIAL TONES — AVENTURINE
“i’ll mend your heart and break it in the same breath, all we ever share are dial tones” …
another night of the same shit. you had been waiting for the inevitable ringtone that always sounded when he called you.
same time every night without fail. sometimes, he wouldn’t call at all. he’d blow off your dates and then gift you things you didn’t need to try and make up for it. but all you really wanted was to spend time with him.
you waited, cuddling a plushie he gifted you to your chest. the clock struck midnight and still no call. you were just about to give up and call it a night, when your phone screen lit up and the caller id displayed his name. you eagerly sat up, reaching for your phone, when you suddenly paused.
he was going to recite the same words. you could feel it. you let your hand drop back onto your bed and sighed as you turned your back to your phone. you wouldn’t answer. not tonight.
when you woke up the next morning, his side of the bed was still empty, but a small note rested on his pillow. you picked it up, only to see the same lame half-assed apology he always gave. you crumpled up the piece of paper and grabbed your phone, dialing his number.
THE HANDWRITTEN LETTER — SUNDAY
“i need you when i’m bruised, i need you when i’m broken” …
he fell from grace. he was no longer the esteemed head of the oak family. he was now… a fallen angel. a fugitive of penacony.
and yet, he came crawling to you for help again. even now, when he knew that involving you meant you would be a fugitive too. but he needed you— needed your smile, your laugh, your presence, your embrace. everything about you.
you always healed him when he felt broken and bruised. you always welcomed him into your home without question, tending to his broken state of mind and allowing him a moment of solace from the outside world.
he knocked thrice, waiting for the door to the shop to swing open like it always did. but there was no answer from the other side, no sign of life. he knocked again, only to realize the sign in the window. the shop was closed, and sold.
you were gone. you didn’t tell him you were leaving. why didn’t you tell him? why didn’t you stay when he so clearly needed you?
he fished out his beaten up phone and sent you a text, only for it to not go through.
THE TRUTH I’LL NEVER TELL — JING YUAN
“how long's it been, it must be months, i swear this time I meant to keep in touch, like always” …
how long has it been? months? years?
he swore he’d keep in touch with you even after you moved to the yaoqing, yet he never took that one step to sending you a text or dialing your number.
it was slowly getting harder for him. his mental health was getting worse. all of his past friends were showing up again, all of them completely different from the people they used to be. they were familiar faces, yet he didn’t recognize any of them.
you were the only one thing that stayed constant in his life before you also left. you moved, and you slowly changed, just like everyone else.
he wondered if you moved on, found a new partner, had kids…
he could easily text you, or call, and ask to catch up sometime. but he was scared. you’d ask about his wellbeing, and he wouldn’t be able to tell you because he didn’t want you to feel disappointed. he didn’t want you to feel guilty for leaving him by himself.
you sent him texts. he read each one. he’d reread them when he missed you terribly. yet, he couldn’t find the courage to reply. you sent him letters once in a while, yet none of them told of how your own life was going. you always asked about him. how he’s been, how yanqing was doing, how fu xuan was faring.
you asked about dan feng once, and that was the only time he responded, telling of his reincarnation. that was the last and only time he replied.
PATCHWORK LOVE — BLADE
“i won’t forget you, i won’t regret through the pain, the years i gave to you” …
he knows you used to love him, but you don’t anymore. you loved who he used to be.
yingxing was the man you fell in love with once upon a time. it’s been years since then. did he even remember that time? you did. you oh so clearly did.
whenever you reconnected, you’d bring it up. you’d talk about all the things you two used to do, where you’d go, the holidays you spent together. it seemed as if your head was filled entirely of memories from the past. as if your heart still beat for the man he used to be, when all he used to do was smile. when all he said to you were words of love and encouragement.
but it’s been years since then. and he was not the same man you knew. he was mara-struck, his mental health unstable and teetering on the edge of insanity at every moment.
yet, you seemed to be the same. somehow. you’d text him now and then, and he knew you felt guilty for what happened, even though it wasn’t your fault in the slightest. he never blamed you for anything.
you’d ask to meetup, and when you did, he saw how you were almost the exact same as you used to be. just, now, your eyes were duller, no longer filled with that wonder he always loved the most about you.
you talked of how your life was going. you were faring well— way better than he was. you had kids. they were all grown up with families of their own. your heart no longer beat for him. it seemed as if you finally moved on.
he wouldn’t ever forget you. he swore he wouldn’t. not when thoughts of you kept him sane. although the past you shared was no more, he still felt himself again when he was with you. as if nothing changed.

❛ ── INTRICATELY ENTWINED ❜
Tumblr media
⤷ synopsis. to be so intricately connected with someone was a blessing, but it could also be a curse.
mydei x gn!reader. 789. ( contents : fluff! angst if u squint ) ╱ taglist. @wystiix @kazuinvocation @pixelcafe-network ( art creds : quinii09 )
Tumblr media
Mydei liked to watch you. There was nothing more intimate to the both of you than gazing upon the other while they flourished in their trade.
And right now, you with your tongue sticking out of your mouth as you furiously jotted down new song lyrics and hummed a soft tune under your breath, was nothing short of enchanting. You had your moments. You could be utterly disheveled from a fight, all battered and bruised, yet he’d still find a way to see the beauty in you.
His way of portraying how he saw you was entirely different from the way you viewed him. To you, he was the words you wrote feverishly on parchment, a harmonious melody in your ears, elegant brush strokes on a canvas, the whistling of the wind in your ears and the softness of the breeze on your skin. He was the light guiding your path, the ink tattooed on your skin, the flow of pomegranate juice down your throat.
Mydei was all that and more. He was the sun you chased after, the morning star that led you home.
He brought color into your life. He was your muse.
To him, you were something worth fighting for. The people of Kremnos valued the thrill of battle and personal honor above all, yet he always needed a purpose for fighting. Battle was not a game. It was an art. However, in that art, there was a purpose— a meaning that he so desperately sought for. Yes… battle was thrilling and the thrum in his veins during a fight was unlike anything he ever felt, but… it wasn’t something that consumed him. To be consumed by battle and bloodlust was a dishonor to Nikador’s core values.
You were the purpose he found. You were the reason he continued to fight.
The both of you could not be any more different, as was the way you saw each other— but it was also all the same.
He was the finest melody, and you were the cherished fire setting him alight with purpose.
Your eyes gazed up from your rough draft of the new song you were working on, drifting to the open window in your study. The market was bustling with life, but it missed your presence on the streets.
A smile tugged at your lips. You’d return once more with a new song, and you’d sing it for the very muse who had been staring at you this whole time. You could feel his gaze on you, just like always, and with a soft sigh, you met his eyes.
“You know… you should take a picture— maybe you’ll stare at that more than me, then.”
He smirked. “Am I distracting you, bard?”
You hummed. “Evidently so. But… you are fueling this— explosive creativity I have, so maybe you can stay.”
“I was going to anyway.” He quipped, taking a sip of the pomegranate juice you offered him earlier. “Can’t get rid of me that easily.”
“Could say the same to you, my dear warrior.”
He was stuck with you now— and you with him. The two of you didn’t mind, though, as this exchange meant more than all the words you could ever string together, and more than all the battles he could ever fight in your honor.
To be so intricately connected with someone was a blessing. It could also be a curse, but ultimately, it was a blessing. It was healing, in a way.
You were seated across from him, your legs propped up on your desk as you scribbled in the notebook resting on your lap. Yet, you felt near to him, wrapped up in his embrace just from the soft expression in his eyes as he continued to stare at you like a cat. He was seated across from you, his chin resting in his palm and a lazy smile on his face. However, he could feel the coolness of your touch on his skin as you sent him an occasional fond smile.
You didn’t have to be right next to each other to feel each other’s embrace. You didn’t have to be near the other to feel their love, adoration, or passion. You could be anywhere in the world and know exactly how he felt for you— how his life force connected with yours and intertwined with it so deeply.
Was this what they called soulmates?
The lingering thought in your mind gave rise to new inspiration, and suddenly you were grabbing your lute and finishing the remainder of the song meant to express your unconditional love for the man looking at you as if you had been the one to bear the world on your back instead of Kephale.

Tumblr media
“Did you hear me?”
The commanding voice of your superior drew you out of your daze. You blinked, looking up at the figure towering above you.
He stood at least two and a half heads taller than you, with a helmet covering his face and a large fur coat draped around his shoulders. The Northern winds whipped violently, thrashing his long black hair around.
He reached a clawed hand out towards you, picking you up by the hood of your own fur coat and placing you on your feet.
“I said: did you hear me?” He questioned again, a little firmer this time.
You shot him a halfhearted glare and picked up your sword, placing it back in its holster at your hip. “‘fraid I didn’t, Sir.”
He stared at you for a long, grueling moment, before letting out a sigh. “I’ll repeat it once more. This time be sure to listen.”
There was once a prince of a forgotten land.
The blizzards of the North pierced your skin, and you pulled your hood over your head. You followed closely behind your predecessor, mirroring his footsteps.
He fell deeply in love with the princess of a kingdom much richer than his. Falling prey to his wit and charms, she agreed to marry him.
A few years after their marriage, they bore a son.
Stopping to rest for a while, you shook off your now wet fur coat and laid it on the damp floor of the cave.
Capitano knelt to the ground, piling up the logs you gathered and starting a fire. It crackled to life, the flames dancing wildly in the darkness. You removed your boots and took a seat on the cold floor, raising your shaking hands to the fire.
The prince, now a king, was forced to leave his wife and newborn son behind as he trudged off to fight a war in another land.
Without a single death within his army, they emerged victorious from the war, though the cost was great.
The King had to make a difficult choice whether to spare the child of his enemies, or destroy a threat in the making.
The blizzards had somehow gotten worse, though that didn’t mean you could rest from your training.
‘Get up,‘ he motioned, and you could practically hear his gruff voice in your head as you stood with a whine, ‘there is no rest for the wicked.’
Outside the cave, his sword materialized in his hand, the ice trickling and cracking as it formed into a sharp, dazzling blade that oozed with a filthy dark aura.
It sliced the air as he pointed it towards you, challenging you.
Without a word, you reached for your own silvery blade, the words carved into the hilt staring back at you in bold, mocking letters.
And thus he posed the question: ‘When does a man become a monster?’
Breathless, you laid on the icy ground, your vision blurred as you tried to regain your senses. Your head was heavy, and it felt as if there was a large wooden plank pressing down on your chest.
A clawed hand reached out, easing towards you when you made no move to take it. Your vision cleared somewhat as you moved your clumpy wet hair out of your eyes.
Sending the man above you a glare, you firmly grasped onto his hand, and with little effort at all, he hoisted you to your feet.
‘You’ve gotten stronger.’
Staring up at him with an exhausted look, you scoffed and turned back to the cave, leaving him alone in the raging storm.
The King and his forces began their journey home.
The festival of your oceanside hometown was in full swing. The streets were lively, and garland decorated the streetlamps. Lanterns were strung between rooftops, casting a warm glow upon the cobblestone.
The rowdy and vigorous woodwinds of the musicians in the square invited all to join in and dance. The crowds of laughing, joyful faces, pushed and pulled as more were drawn into the festivities.
Traditional, elegantly crafted beer mugs that once belonged in a glass cabinet in your father’s home, were being passed around from person to person.
Tables were found on every corner, filled to the brim and packed with what seemed like an endless plethora of foods and homemade dishes. They sat unevenly upon each other, and just one touch would send it all toppling to the floor.
The first island they stumbled upon housed a cyclops with the biting urge to crush and destroy all who disturbed his peace.
The King’s forces fought back, and some had been lost amongst the chaos.
With heavy hearts, they retreated, only to face the blinding wrath of a sea god who had no intentions of letting them leave alive.
Shivering in the cold of the cell, you cursed. How had it all come to this?
Silently, the aching hurt in your heart that you yearned so badly to blame on something all these years, finally found and locked onto its target.
Narrowly escaping his clutches, they were pushed onto the isle of a powerful witch.
A new foe stood in their way, but the King’s resolve was strong. With the help of divine intervention, he defeated the witch and fled with his men, only to find themselves in the underworld searching for a prophet who could guide them home.
When did the reason become the blame?
Staring out at the vast empty plains of white, you felt as if you had seen this sight once before, during a time when you were small and weak.
A time where all you had to care about was not falling onto the ice as your father tightened the laces on your skates.
A time where you once had to oversee a whole tent of injured soldiers and your only worry was to keep them all alive.
A time where your only fear was to stay alive in a fight with a rabid monster that had emerged from the depths, all grotesque and bloody, with a sole flashing eye and wild hair that stuck out every which way.
A time where your body shook and lost control of its own limbs as a cackling doctor watched in amusement, using you as his labrat.
And thus the prophet said: ‘I see a man who will make it home alive, but that man is no longer you.’
You turned to your superior, a tired look in your eyes and a question on your lips. He met your gaze, already knowing what you were going to ask before the words tumbled out of your mouth.
Did the King make it home alive?
He sighed then, and it was heavy and deep, and that was enough to tell you that yes— the King had made it home alive, but there was more to the story.
After trial and test, and more tribulations thrown his way that led to a series of unfortunate events and many more deaths under that King’s hand, he made it back to his wife and son.
But the man he returned as was a monster, a shell of the man he had left as. He was no longer the same.
You stared into the crackling flames of the fire, contemplating the tale he took the time to tell you. Why had this story been necessary?
Before you could ask, he pointed to the sky.
”Just as a star dies when they run out of fuel and collapse under their own crushing pressure, does a person lose themselves when faced with challenges no ordinary mortal can withstand. The blood of many rests on our hands, and one day, we are fated to collapse and explode under the pressure of the mountain of bodies of the people we have slain.”
He met your wide eyes and placed a comforting clawed hand on your shoulder. “We are not the same people as we were.”
His voice was firm. He stopped there, but you knew he wanted to add on to that— ‘Surely you can understand why I have shared this tale with you, now.’
And you did.

Maybe One Day
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: kinich was sure about his feelings for you, and he was aware of the ones you harbored for him. yet, there’s one thing stopping him from telling you…
PAIRING: kinich x gn!reader
warnings: slight angst, subtle die jokes
wc: 1.6k
notes: mostly fluff, but u guys know me by now, i can’t ever write anything without angst in it. played thru a bit of the 5.0 quest (NO SPOILERS GUYS!!!!) and i actually love kinich sm. another one of those quiet but gentle characters (๑>◡<๑) reminds me a bit of xiao - and that’s not bc of the color scheme lol. anyw enjoy!
part 2!
Tumblr media
Pen scratched loudly against paper as you eagerly jotted down more notes in your journal.
Early mornings high in the canopy of trees were serene and chilly. It was still a long while until the sun would rise, and when it did, you'd return to the villa the locals offered you and continue your work inside.
The sweltering heat of Natlan was nothing to scoff at. You've been to Sumeru before, where there was hot weather all year round. Yet, just when you had gotten used to the heat, the research for your thesis demanded you to go somewhere even hotter: Natlan.
You couldn't handle hot weather. Whenever the weather reached just above what one could describe as 'warm,' you felt like you were going to melt into a puddle on the ground. That's why you knocked out all of your research in the early morning, when it was cooler, and retired to your lodging after the sun rose so you could avoid a potential heatstroke.
Already, you began to feel a shift in temperature as dim light peered over the horizon. It was easy to see the sunrise from here, perched in this gargantuan tree.
It was peaceful up here, and it gave you a wonderful view of the whole of Natlan. You could see King Deshret's Mausoleum from this height, too, and you silently thanked yourself for not ever being interested in his ancient technology.
If you had to stay in the desert for a prolonged period of time, you would’ve found a hole to crawl in and never crawl back out.
On the way to Natlan six months ago, your escort told you that the only way to get there was through the desert. He knew of your great distaste for hot weather, and so he was fully prepared to hear you whine and throw a tantrum over the ordeal. However, instead, all you did was pout and tell him to get a move on and "get this over with."
A cramp formed in your hand, and you had to pause your note taking.
As you massaged your hand, you admired the first signs of light creeping over the horizon and allowed yourself to get lost in the sounds around you: Water rushing from the nearby waterfall, the chirping of birds, the rustling of foliage, and the bellowing of Yumkasaurs. You could faintly hear the whispers of the locals as they exited their houses, though their conversations were incoherent from this distance.
Although the weather was atrocious, you absolutely adored the sights and the sounds of Natlan. It felt lively and bright.
You opened your eyes and looked down at your journal. Five more paragraphs to go before you could rest for today.
"I was told you've been up here for quite a while," a soft voice interrupted, causing you to jump, "didn't I tell you to take more breaks, Northerner?"
Your lantern knocked over, and you quickly reached forward, catching it before it could fall victim to its inevitable demise in the valley below. You were incredibly high up. You could barely see the ground from here, much less where the waterfall beneath you ended.
Breathing a sigh of relief, you placed the lantern back at your side and turned to your visitor, who wore an amusing smirk on his face.
"And didn't I tell you not to sneak up on me like that, Kinich?"
The boy in question didn't answer you. Silently, he joined you at your side, and that was when you spotted the bowl of grainfruits he held in his hand. He offered it to you.
"Breaks are necessary, you know. Especially when working on research papers."
You took a bite out of one of the fruits and sighed. "I'm well aware. But I came here solely for my thesis, not for a vacation. Besides, if I was given a vacation, I probably would've chosen to go—“
"'Home'?" He finished. You nodded.
"Yeah. I would've gone home." Another sigh, longer this time, left your lips.
"You miss Mondstadt, then?" He asked, taking a bite out of a grainfruit and setting the bowl between you two.
"You bet I do!" you exclaimed, flipping back to the first page of your journal. Notes from your entire family occupied the page. You gently ran your fingers over them.
“Before I left Dornman Port, my family gave me this journal and told me to do great things in Sumeru. They even wrote me notes as a reminder to 'keep pushing when times get tough.’”
Your family knew you too well. They knew you were someone who pushed themselves way too hard— an overachiever.
Whenever you felt burnt out, you read their notes, and it gave you the motivation to keep going. To keep achieving great things. To seek the answer to what ‘freedom’ truly meant to you through your experiences.
Kinich was silent for a few moments. He was someone who preferred silence, and oddly enough, you were too. Though, it hadn't seemed that way when the two of you first met.
When you first met, you had just arrived in the settlement belonging to the Scions of the Canopy, and you were just about ready to collapse onto the ground because of heat exhaustion.
Thankfully, you were aided by not only Kinich— who happened to be nearby —but also a few others from his tribe. When you recovered, you complained to the high heavens about the heat, and Kinich was very close to dragging you up Teticpac Peak just to push you off. He already heard enough whining from Ajaw, he didn't need to hear more from a foreigner who never once stepped foot in Natlan.
He was fully prepared to ignore you from that day forward, only to become intrigued when he got a glimpse of your research.
Later, he was surprised to find out you were actually from Mondstadt, the Crown of the North. Not only that, but you were from the far, far north reaches of Mondstadt— Dornman Port —nearing the border of Snezhnaya; And suddenly, all your complaining about the weather made sense.
Although the two of you were mostly polar opposites, you became fast friends, and Kinich's favorite way to say hello was to sneak up on you when you least expected him to.
His interest in you eventually became noticeable to Ajaw, and as soon as that little yellow and green bastard pointed it out one night, Kinich knew he had to lock him away whenever you were near.
He couldn't risk the chances of Ajaw blurting it out in front of you.
He wanted to believe you felt the same way. After all, you would've gotten tired of him by now if you didn’t. That, or you might've stayed away from him simply because he looked a little intimidating. Either way, he was glad you stuck around.
He ignored the voice in the back of his head telling him you'd one day have to leave.
As soon as you wrapped up your research in Natlan, you'd have to return to Sumeru's Akademiya and continue on with your life. Maybe you'd even take a trip back home to Mondstadt to see your family and possibly even attend a festival.
He remembered hearing you talk about one of them, a seemingly important one. It was one that he couldn't pronounce for the life of him, but he loved hearing you say it because he liked hearing you speak in Mondstadt's language.
He wondered what a Statue of the Seven even looked like in Mondstadt. He had never seen any pictures of one, not even a picture of what Mondstadt's Archon looked like. From rumors, he heard the Anemo Archon was completely absent from Mondstadt, and you somewhat confirmed those rumors.
"I wouldn't say Lord Barbatos is completely absent," you said once when he asked, "we believe the wind in Mondstadt is Lord Barbatos himself. So with that logic, he's still with us, just not physically like other Archons."
You sighed softly, finishing off the last grainfruit in the bowl. "Thanks Kinich."
Sending him one of your dazzling smiles that always made his heart beat a little faster, you scooted closer to him and bumped his shoulder with your own.
He raised a brow in confusion. "What for?"
"Everything, I think…” You answered. “For helping me when I first arrived here, for always looking out for me... I'm really thankful."
He was silent, though you knew his silence was not him being dismissive. He was either pondering, or he just didn't know what to say in response.
Eventually, he wrapped his arm around your shoulders and pulled you close. The sudden action made you tense up before you relaxed against him and rested your head on his shoulder.
The sun was rising over the horizon now, and you could deal with the rise in temperature for a while if it meant you got to stay like this with him.
"Don't thank me for anything." He said finally, under his breath.
Maybe one day, he'd tell you of his feelings, because now he was sure of how you felt towards him. But today was not that day.
Time was counting down to the day you had to leave, and he knew he wasn't ready for you to go so soon. Six months had come and gone in a flash.
It wasn't goodbye for good, as you swore you'd come back to Natlan the next time you had the chance— whether it be for research or for a much needed vacation. Yet, a goodbye, regardless of if it was a "see you later" or a proper "goodbye," it still hurt all the same.
Maybe one day, when the war in Natlan came to a close, you could show Kinich around your homeland, just as he did with you. But until that day came, Kinich would wait.
As long as it took. "As long as the wind blows," like you'd often say.

PARTNERS IN CRIME!
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: soul eater au with genshin characters part one!!
PAIRING: kinich, venti, yelan, nilou x gn!reader
warnings: slight angst, mentions of death
notes: yall one of my irls finally got me to watch soul eater and it gave me so many ideas. i literally started the show back in june but i got so busy that i just.. never continued watching it.. 😭 until my friend invited me over to watch some episodes LMAO. there’ll be a part two to this cause i have more ideas with more characters teehee. anyw enjoy!!
Tumblr media
KINICH
• the two of you became partners on a whim. your last partner had been tragically killed in battle and you were in the market for a new one. though, you were pretty standoffish towards everyone because you were grieving
• kinich was also looking for a partner around the same time and happened upon you after a meeting with lord death. you looked pretty worse for wear and he offered his shoulder for you to cry on. without thinking, he offered to be your new partner, and you agreed
• training together for the first time was a shit show, and your best friend, mualani, sat there laughing her ass off the entire time. you kept yelling at her to go find her meister and leave you and kinich alone so you could focus
• you had even more trouble adapting because kinich’s weapon form was a greatsword and your last weapon had been a gun. it was a huge change that required you to workout and build up muscle in order to properly wield him
• after a month or so, the two of you were able to finally build up your teamwork and trust. you spent a lot of time together in and out of classes to get to know each other better and form a bond. you easily formed an attachment to him, but he was a bit more reluctant due to his introverted personality
• you were shocked at how close you became in such a short period of time. before you knew it, you were taking on missions again and working on your soul resonance
• due to losing your last partner, you now had an irrational fear of losing kinich, which caused a lot of problems in battle. instead of letting him do his duty and protect his meister, you put yourself between him and the enemy and sacrificed your life to protect him. this habit eventually caused a huge fight between the two of you, with kinich sputtering out a confession
• shocked, you were left to mull over everything until you couldn’t take being away from him any longer and went to apologize. he also apologized for raising his voice, and you had a heart to heart talk that left a confession of your own slipping out
• you asked if he could forgive you, and he said he would, but only if you stopped taking the heat and let him actually do his job. reluctantly, you did, because you couldn’t say no to him when you loved him so much
VENTI
• the two of you had been long time partners, or “partners in crime” as he liked to call it. you were childhood friends turned lovers. he was your loyal weapon, and to him, you were his trusted meister
• you got on like oil and water, but you also couldn’t be more similar. opposites attract, after all. everyone always told you that you two were the most compatible weapon and meister ever. also the strongest… literal power couple
• you were able to collect 99 souls and a witch soul in no time together. together, your strength rivaled gods. venti himself was on par with a god, even if his weapon form was only that of a musical instrument
• on weekends, you spent your time training and venti would watch you from the sidelines, simply admiring you. you’d tell him to join you, which would always result in him asking for kisses in return if he did. every time, you’d say yes, because you just couldn’t say no
• whenever someone asked how you two got together, venti would come up with something different on the spot. once, he said that he was majorly attracted to you while watching you fight with another weapon in battle, and afterwards, went up to you asking to be your weapon instead and you dramatically threw away your last partner to become partners with him
• another time, he said that he dropped his uncle’s glass of wine on you while he was drunk and you ended up taking care of him for the night, which led to him professing his undying love for you. safe to say, no one actually knows the true story
• the true story of how you two got together was actually a bit more tragic. he sacrificed himself for you when you were teenagers. during your battle to collect a witch's soul, venti heroically threw himself in front of you to protect you and he was almost killed. in a fit of rage, you completely obliterated the witch and rushed over to your injured best friend. he played the situation off by making a few jokes, though they did nothing to stop your crying. thinking he was going to die, he confessed to you before you fed him the witch’s soul
• when he came to and was all healed up, you returned his sentiments. from then on, your bond grew stronger and served as an example for younger generations
YELAN
• being yelan’s weapon was rough work. you complained that she overworked you during training and you always seemed to have a quip ready on your tongue during battle
• never a dull moment between the two of you, as you were always the reckless type, and she tried her best to reel you in. after years of working together, your bond was exceptionally strong
• she teaches at DWMA, you think it’s hot
• you have an odd job outside of being a weapon. you work part-time as a tailor’s assistant
• you like to make dresses for her and she absolutely adores them, though she never admits it because she hates (not really) seeing that smug look on your face. it’s okay though, she’ll get you back by kissing you and laugh at your stunned expression
• you spend more time arguing with her than actually helping her fight enemies. she hates it, as she just likes to get things over and done with— especially since she’s an assassin
• your personalities are wildly different, but it makes you two all the more compatible
• at the end of the day, you make a great team and you have a bond that could never be severed. you’d sacrifice your life for her no matter what, even though you had full faith and trust in her that she could handle herself
NILOU
• she was more on the timid side than you. when you first met, your explosive personality made her a bit scared of you. it took a bit of time for her to warm up to you and gain the courage to actually say something
• you were the one who took the first step and approached her first. when you did, you accidentally scared her off, which caused you to sulk for a while. you just thought she was pretty and wanted to say so..
• after talking with her friends, dehya and dunyarzad, she went on a mission to find you and apologize for the way she acted. when she did find you, you were overlooking the city and sat in complete silence. she didn’t want to interrupt, but you already knew she was there
• she apologized profusely (after gaining the courage to sit down beside you) and the two of you talked for a long while. right before she was about to go home, she told you she was looking for a partner and would love for you to be hers. that was what set everything in motion, and you pledged to protect her as best you could
• she was tough for someone who looked very shy. she moved with a grace and elegance that entranced you, and you found yourself wanting to learn how to dance as well as she could. she immediately offered to teach you, and most of the time you spent bonding together was through dance lessons
• in turn, you taught her how to wield a sword better. the close proximity was a bit of a distraction for you both (in both dancing and sword training). soon, you found yourself wishing to be by her side like that forever

PRIDE OF THE SUN
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: being a child of apollo was a great honor... until you have a vision about a certain ginger that flips your entire world on its head.
PAIRING: ares kid!tartaglia x apollo kid!fem!reader
warnings: blood, angst
wc: 5.9k
notes: if u couldn't tell, this is a percy jackson au... anyw this whole fic took me the entire day yesterday to write- like no joke i spent 12 hrs on this shit... NEVER AGAIN *looks at drafts* nvm i might have to do this again in the future... u guys will see why soon enough. wink wink.
Tumblr media
You hated this. Hated him.
There you sat, on your ass on the hard ground with Ajax’s spear pointed to your throat. You sneered up at him.
One wrong move and that spear would go straight through your neck. You glanced down at the sharp tip and the way it gleamed under the light of the afternoon sun. That only made it all the more menacing.
Truthfully, you were a bit scared he might finish the job and shove the spear right through you. He didn’t… for obvious reasons.
But you swore you saw him move just a tiny bit closer. You swallowed the fear you harbored in your heart, ignoring the way the organ thumped impossibly fast against your ribcage. You would never show weakness in front of him. You would never let him know you were scared.
Revealing your weakness to him was like a rabbit leaping right into a wolf’s jaws.
You refused to be the rabbit.
As he was busy gloating over his victory, you sought an opening. With one swift kick, you knocked him down onto the ground. His spear struck your cheek, leaving a clean cut through the flesh. You barely felt it happen until a stinging rose from the area.
Touching your cheek, you frowned. Blood coated your fingers. Eh, you’d live. It was just a scratch.
You stood up and grabbed his spear, smirking at him as he looked up at you with a fire burning in his eyes. You loved beating down the Ares kids. They were nothing but arrogant bastards, and here you had the best one in camp on the ground with his own weapon pointed at his face.
“Looks like I win, brute.”
Your little distasteful nickname for him made a scowl appear on his face as he slowly stood up and spit blood out of his mouth. He stared at you, brows furrowed and eyes devoid of any life. That was what you hated most about him: his ability to look so fucking terrifying when he wanted to. Or maybe it was without even trying.
He wiped the blood from his lip, the trail staining the side of his chin and his cheek. The earring that hung from his ear sparkled in the light of the sun, and you had the urge to ask where he had gotten it from. It certainly wasn’t from his father… or was it?
You knew his double-edged spear came from his father, but you were skeptical on where he had gotten the earring. Did he even have that a few days ago?
The scary look on his face made you falter for just a second when you whisked yourself back to reality. His breathing was hard, his chest heaving as if he was angry. Suddenly, you felt small and weak under his gaze.
He wasn’t called the strongest child of Ares for nothing.
“That was a dirty trick…” for a second, you thought he was serious, until, “I like your style, sunshine!”
You scoffed, throwing his spear onto the ground and shoving past him. He quickly reached for it and scrambled after you, yapping in your ear all the way. You were beginning to get a headache from his voice.
This wasn’t the first time he chased you around camp while you ignored him, and it definitely wasn’t the first time you two fought. According to the other campers, you “had a history” with each other. That made it sound as if you were once in a relationship, which couldn’t be further from the truth.
You’d never date someone like him– someone so bloodthirsty for power and warfare that it drove them to the brink of insanity.
Okay… so maybe he wasn’t insane (though, you firmly believed he was from that crazed look in his eyes) but he was certainly a warmonger.
Like father, like son.
It was true you had a history, but it wasn’t in the relationship type of way. It was the “I’ll kill you because you insulted me when we were kids” type of way.
When you first arrived at camp, you were eleven years old. Back then, you wanted absolutely nothing to do with anyone or anything. Your own mother casted you out of the house, calling you spawn of the devil for being a half-blood, even though you knew she gloated when it came to the fact that she had a child with a god. You never understood her hatred for you when all she did was brag to her friends about your father.
Out on the streets, with nowhere to go, you learned how to fend for yourself. With nothing on your person but the necklace your father had supposedly given your mother, you did what you could to survive. Your ballads and ugly crying garnered the attention of passerby, and with the little kindness they had in their hearts, they gave you money. You used that money for necessities, like food and water. But you also used it for things you wanted; like, that shiny guitar you saw in the downtown area’s music store.
You saved up enough money to buy it within half a year, luring in passerby with your gift of song. Like a siren’s call, you drew them in, and you quickly learned how to utilize your demigod abilities to get what you wanted. When you bought the guitar and strummed the first chords to a song your mother always absentmindedly sang, that’s when your father appeared before you for the very first time.
And that was how you wound up in camp a few days later. You were guided to the Apollo cabin by your own father, who was way more flamboyant than you expected, and after that, you were left to settle in.
You watched your father disappear into a flurry of golden flames and a soft hum of a heavenly choir. When you turned to your bed, a drawing of a sun was etched into the fine wood of your guitar. Over time, there would grow to be more and more drawings left on your guitar, one for each time your father visited you.
Settling into camp was hard. You were shy, and quiet, and the other kids in your cabin were a bit too outgoing for your liking, a true testament to your father’s personality. At first, it seemed as if you were the black sheep among your siblings. That was quickly proven wrong when a boy who was a year younger than you showed up at your cabin one day, staring at you with a menacing fire burning in his eyes as you played your guitar.
You didn’t notice him right away, as you were too lost in the music and the homey atmosphere of the cabin to even pay attention to what was going on around you. That’s what it was like for you with music: you lost all sense of the material world as you plucked at the strings of your guitar, mentally transporting yourself to a different plane of existence. This was how you– most of the time, connected yourself with your father.
Unbeknownst to you, you were also plucking at Ajax’s heartstrings. Ajax, the boy who was standing in the doorway, completely enraptured by your performance. His eyes lit up with an excitement no one had ever seen in him before. Then, he spoke, his words tumbling fast and loud out of his mouth like a roaring lion.
You jumped, and you were forcefully pulled out of your meditation. The more he rambled on, the more you grew annoyed. You put the pieces together. He was loud; boisterous, bellicose, arrogant, and every step he took made the earth rumble beneath his feet. There was a fire that burned brightly in his eyes, one that screamed ‘Come at me if you dare, I’ll show you what I’m made of.’
There was no doubt in your mind: he was a child of Ares.
Was every child of Ares this full of themselves? He even claimed he was better at the arts than you! How dare he!
That was the first time you cursed him to speak in rhyming couplets for a week straight. You didn’t even know you could do that. When you asked your cabin leader about it, all they said was that you had a lot to learn about what it meant to be a child of Apollo.
And ever since that day, you swore you’d knock Ajax off of his high horse. And boy were you determined to do so.
There were quite a few things you could do that he couldn’t, and one of them was wielding a bow.
You were the most skilled archer at camp. The first time you picked up a bow, you felt the wind rush past you and caress your form. You felt relaxed, at ease, as if you’ve been wielding a bow your whole life– as if you came out of the womb with it clutched tightly in your hands.
Wielding a bow was Ajax’s weakness. It was the one weapon he could never master. You held it over his head like a vice.
All your insults never deterred his advances, and you found your hatred for him growing with each passing day. But you never once gave up trying to prove him wrong. You would prove to him that you were more than what his siblings called you: a siren. You’d prove you were a worthy opponent, and that your skills were worth it in not only his eyes, but the entire camp’s.
It was not just because you hated him, but because he utterly humiliated you on more occasions than you could count on both hands.
As soon as you managed to get out of his reach for today, you let out a sigh of relief and decided to take a nice, warm bath. It was very much needed after a long day of combat training.
You bid hello to your half siblings and made a beeline for the bath as soon as you set your bow down on your bed. When you sunk into the hot water of the bath, you felt as if you were ascending to the heavens. The water felt heavenly against your muscles that were previously screaming. Now, they ached as you gently massaged your calves. Your nose scrunched up from the soreness.
You were on your feet for almost the entire day. It was no wonder your feet felt a little numb from all of the exercise.
Leaning back against the tub, you allowed your whole body to breathe and relax. A knock sounded on the door, and your eye twitched. Just when you thought you had some alone time…
The voice of your half brother, Kaeya, sounded from the other side of the door.
“Hey, sis, you in there? I heard there’s gonna be fireworks tomorrow to celebrate Diluc’s return.”
Diluc was Kaeya’s adoptive brother and a son of Athena. They weren’t on the best terms, but they still considered each other brothers. At least, that’s what you assumed. They’d probably drop dead before ever admitting it out loud.
Regardless of how well they got along, you were also dragged into their little family. Kaeya was a few months older than you, and although that wasn’t much of an age gap, he still liked to call you his little sister.
The first time he introduced you to Diluc, you were scared out of your mind. Diluc was intimidating and he towered over you. It took quite a while for you to be able to talk to him without being terrified of him. Once you saw how much of a big softie he was, the fear was quickly replaced with admiration.
You admired how strong he was and how much he cared for his family.
You jumped up at Kaeya’s words. “What!? That’s tomorrow?”
You heard him chuckle. “Yes, dummy. His pet arrived today with news of his homecoming, so Jean decided to hold a party. There’ll be fireworks!”
Your love of fireworks was well known throughout camp. Although you weren’t a fan of loud noises, you had a deep love for fireworks and their ability to light up the night sky with their beauty.
You wished you could shine as bright as they did. They shone like the sun, and you were a lover of the sun.
Scrambling out of the tub and leaving your warm bath behind, you dried yourself off and threw on a new pair of clothes before exiting the bathroom. Kaeya stood outside, a knowing smirk on his face. Suddenly, you had a bad feeling about going to that party.
Kaeya and that look was never a good omen. It always led to something bad.
“What’s with the face?” He asked, following you to your bed. His was right below yours.
“What face?”
He crossed his arms over his chest. “That one. The one you’re making right now.”
“You have something hidden up your sleeve, don’t you?” You squinted. “Whatever it is, I want no part of it!”
He only snickered, which did nothing to help your suspicions. He climbed onto your bed, ignoring your protests to get off. You threw one of your stuffed animals in his face.
“Get away from me!” You laughed, attempting to fend him off but it was no use.
“I just want a hug from my baby sister!”
You kicked him in the ribs, causing him to double over in pain. He slapped your foot, resulting in a loud ‘OW’ from you.
The next day was the day Diluc was coming home. You asked Jean if you could help prepare, but upon seeing how much she already had done, you realized that she probably didn’t even need your help. Or anyone’s, with the way she was yelling at people to let her do all the work.
“So, your brother’s coming back today, huh?”
You sighed heavily. Of course, Ajax was here to bother you yet again. When would you ever be able to catch a break?
“Yes,” you replied curtly.
He frowned at your cold response. It wasn’t too out of the ordinary for you, but just once he wished you’d talk to him like you talked to your friends.
He tried again. “I never asked how the two of you are related. Or do the two of you just refer to yourselves as siblings because you’re close?”
“It’s none of your business.”
A sigh left your lips, and you grabbed your bow from beside you. Instead of answering his question, you walked off to go practice shooting. Ajax stared after you longingly, the pout on his lips resembling that of a kicked puppy.
He wouldn’t give up in his pursuit.
You couldn’t count how many arrows you ripped through targets in the last hour, but you sure were more aggravated today than you were the day before. Ajax continued to push your buttons, and you were running out of ways to calm yourself down each time.
Meditation with music no longer worked unless you were completely alone, and now you couldn’t even focus entirely on the targets without thinking of his annoying face. One thing that helped was imagining the target was him and that your fire arrows were ripping right through his head.
Kaeya asked you about your hatred for him once, and to his question, you replied, “All he ever does is humiliate me. All he does is shove his skills in my face and boast when I can’t do things that he can. I feel powerless when I’m standing next to him.”
You pulled your arm back again, ready to fire another arrow, when suddenly your vision went white. Not now! You thought, cursing out your own precognition as you watched future events play out.
You assumed it would be the same old, same old of someone getting hurt and needing to be healed by one of your siblings, or a mellow talk between you and Kaeya, but it was nothing of the sort. You even assumed it would be a vision of Diluc returning home, or something that would happen at the party tonight, but it was neither. It wasn’t anything dangerous, either.
Instead, what you saw was Ajax sitting down in front of you on the training grounds. It was dark outside, and the only light sources came from the lanterns hanging in the trees. You were staring up at him with the same scowl you always gave him, but the smile he always wore was nowhere to be seen. In its place was a frown, and in his eyes, the fire that always made itself home there has completely fizzled out.
He reached a hand out to you, the side of his face dripping with crimson red blood. He looked about ready to pass out right then and there. Hesitantly, you took hold of his hand. He pulled you closer to him, wrapping an arm around your form.
You weakly fought against his hold, grabbing onto his shirt tightly. Instead of pushing him away like you thought you’d do, you pulled him closer, until your lips were mere inches apart. He muttered something then, something that was indecipherable to you.
After that, you looked into his eyes with a look you never thought you’d give anyone. Then, his lips met yours, and the vision faded into nothing. You gasped for air, clutching tightly to your chest as a figure in front of you held you by the shoulders. Their voice was frantic, distorted, as the ringing in your ears blocked out everything.
When your vision cleared, you looked up, expecting to see the comfort of Kaeya’s periwinkle colored fluffy jacket, only to see the red of a certain someone’s scarf. The ringing stopped, and you were finally able to hear the voice you loathed.
“Are you okay, sunshine!?” He asked, his eyes filled with worry. “I found you on the ground and you weren’t responding, so I called Chiron. He’ll be here soo–”
You shoved him away from you. “Just stop!” You yelled, overwhelmed from the vision you just witnessed. Your body felt warm and sweat trickled down the back of your neck. You were shaking uncontrollably.
He frowned. “I was just trying to help! You looked–”
“I don’t need your help!” you retorted, your chest heaving as you finally let all your anger loose. “I never have and I never will! Why would I ever need help from the likes of you, anyway? All you do is belittle me!”
His brows furrowed. “What? No, I never meant to–”
“Just go away!” You shoved past him, leaving your broken bow on the ground.
Diluc was happy to be back, but as he scanned the crowd of people at the party, he couldn’t find you anywhere. He could’ve sworn Kaeya said you were here.
He tossed a glare in his brother’s direction, only to see Kaeya just as disappointed at your absence as he was. That was when Mona, one of your half siblings, approached them with a panicked expression on her face. She was breathless from running, and judging by her urgency, there was something wrong.
Kaeya, already having a feeling it was something to do with you, stepped forward. “What happened?”
“It’s (Name)!” Mona panted, taking a moment to wipe the sweat from her brow before continuing. “She had a vision. Ajax said he found her passed out on the ground after leaving the target area. She’s in the infirmary now–”
Kaeya pushed her aside, setting off into a sprint towards the infirmary. Without a second thought, Diluc followed, leaving the party behind.
When you came to, you were in the infirmary. You didn’t know how you got here, but all you could remember was the vision you had hours prior. Your head was pounding– a side effect of precognition, and your whole body felt hot. Did you have a fever?
You sat up, wincing as the sunlight filtering through the curtains hit you right in the face. It did nothing but add to your awful migraine. Where were you? You took a look around, your vision a little blurry from just waking up.
“Well good morning, sleepy head,” a smooth voice said, placing a hand to your forehead, “I was starting to get a little worried you wouldn’t wake up!”
As soon as your vision cleared, you saw none other than your father sitting next to you, a wide smile on his face as he stared down at you. He retracted his hand and placed it in his lap.
“Dad!? What are you doing here?” You questioned, your voice hoarse.
You reached for the cup of water on the table next to the infirmary bed. You gulped it all down in seconds flat and let out a sigh of relief.
Apollo crossed one leg over the other and placed his chin in his palm. “Why do you think I’m here, sunshine?”
That nickname– that dreadful nickname. You used to like when he called you that, but not after Ajax started using it too. It sounded like he was mocking you whenever he addressed you as such.
“I don’t wanna talk about it,” you threw the blanket over your head and curled into a ball, “so go back to Olympus, or whatever.”
Your father chuckled. “You have to tell me everything you saw, sunshine. Otherwise, I won’t leave. And I think we both know that I am a very patient man.”
A tense silence passed. You could still feel his presence in the room even though it was completely silent, devoid of a sound. For a few minutes, you were silent, biting your lip out of nervousness.
Truthfully, you were embarrassed to tell him what you saw. It wasn’t something you wanted to share with your father of all people. And knowing him, he’d tease you to hell and back for it. You wouldn’t say anything, you decided.
“Fine. If you’re going to be stubborn like that boyfriend of yours, then why don’t I tell him what you saw?”
You jumped up, a terrified look in your eyes as your father laughed raucously. You glared at him. He was so vexing sometimes. You never understood a thing he said or did. Then again, you never understood a single thing any of the gods did. You probably never would.
With a heavy sigh, you sat against the wall and explained your vision to him, avoiding his gaze the entire time. It was embarrassing enough you had to tell him, but it would’ve been worse if you were looking at him when you did so.
After you finished, he hummed thoughtfully. “I see,” he muttered, “well, if I had to guess, my dear beloved daughter has a crush on this child of Ares.”
“I do not! And I never will!” You immediately sputtered, feeling your cheeks heat up.
He snickered. “I think you do. After all, that vision spoke for itself.”
You shook your head, adamant that you didn’t harbor any sort of feelings for the ginger you claimed to hate all these years. There was no way you liked that crazed, warmongering lunatic. Your father was off his rocker. Officially.
“It’s false. There’s no way I like that wackjob.” You crossed your arms over your chest. “All he does is fight people. He never stops. It’s so annoying. And don’t get me started on the way he smiles when he gets hurt, like he enjoys it! Who in their right mind is happy when they’re practically bleeding out!?”
Your rambling took your father by surprise, but he was amused nonetheless. This was the first time you got so riled up like this, and all because of a boy. He couldn’t help but find teenage love so, so amusing– especially when you were the one experiencing it.
“I think someone has a crush!” He said again, only for it to be shot down by you once again.
“As if! I’d rather take a swan dive into the bottomless pit where Kronos resides than fall for that warmongering brute!”
He sighed. “The prophecy always comes true, sunshine.”
You shook your head. “Not this time.”
Apollo stood up, placing his sunglasses back over his eyes before handing you something. He ruffled your hair. “You can’t escape fate, my dear. I think you’ll be in for a rude awakening.”
With that, he disappeared into a flurry of golden flames, leaving you alone in the infirmary. On your lap sat a golden lyre, another gift that you would add to your collection of instruments and weapons. This one seemed particularly special, though you couldn’t place your finger on why. But your father’s words echoed in your head, even weeks after his visit.
You avoided Ajax like the plague, ignoring him on most occasions, and making sure you didn’t have to interact with him on others. Until one night, you found yourself training with Kaeya. You excelled with bows, but you were also a swordmaster. Reestablishing a firm grip on your sun blade (gifted to you by your father), you swung your sword at your brother once more, clicking your tongue when you just barely grazed his arm.
Your swords clashed, and with one final push, you knocked him onto his ass. His sword flung out of his hands, landing somewhere in the distance. You let out a small laugh, standing over him with your hand outstretched. He took it without a second thought, and you pulled him to his feet.
“You’ve gotten stronger,” he told you, pride evident in his voice, “how much have you been practicing on your own?”
“A hell of a lot,” you answered, giving him a lopsided smile, “Jean’s been sparring with me. She’s a formidable foe.”
Kaeya laughed, retrieving his sword. “Indeed, she is. Though, it’s rare for you to take her on. Have you been missing your usual victim?” Of course he threw in a tease. He always did.
You sighed. “I’ll admit it’s been a bit boring.”
He raised a brow. “That’s it?”
“What do you mean? What else am I supposed to say? You know I hate his guts.”
He shrugged, though you knew he was hiding something. “I just thought, after your talk with father, you had a change of heart.”
Your heart dropped to your stomach and you froze. “Dad talked to you?”
“Briefly. He told me about your vision. I must say, that vision sure is revealing the desires hidden in your heart–”
“Dad told you!?” You screeched, fear bubbling up inside of you.
If your father told Kaeya, there was a chance he might’ve spilled the beans to Ajax as well. You didn’t know how you could ever face him again. If he knew, you’d have to launch yourself into the nearest pit of vipers and hope you never come back out alive.
Your pride– and your dignity, were ruined.
Kaeya patted your head. “Not the specifics,” he reassured, “just that it included a certain someone. And no, before you ask, he didn’t say anything to said individual. He only told me… and maybe Diluc.”
You groaned before you let out a whine. The next time you saw your father, you were going to kill him. Well, you’d try to.
“I better get back to the cabin,” Kaeya sighed, “I’d like to shower before bed. You coming back with me?”
He hoped you’d say no, but only because he had a little plan hidden up his sleeve.
You shook your head, much to his relief. “I’m gonna stay out here a bit longer. I wanna practice with more dummies.”
He smiled at you, genuinely this time, and pulled you into a tight hug. “Alright. Just don’t wear yourself out. If you aren’t back in an hour, I’ll come and drag you back to the cabin myself.”
You laughed and pushed him away from you playfully. “Yes, mom.”
He laughed softly in return, messing up your hair again as you protested and swatted his hand away, before he set off back to the cabins.
Your smile slowly faded as he got farther away, and you looked down at your sun blade. In the darkness, it looked like just any old scrap of metal, but in the sunlight, it glowed a magnificent gold. It was a sword many children of Apollo had used before you. That’s what your father told you when he had given it to you.
Only the best warriors born from your father were given this sword. And upon their death, it would stop glowing and your father would take it back into his possession before giving it to the next child. When the sword was given to a new owner after the former owner’s death, it would glow brightly again, filled with the life force of whoever wielded it.
You gripped the sword tightly in your hands. You could feel a small thrum run through your fingers. That was the sword. It was talking to you, bonding with your life force. Although it lost many wielders in its life, the sword always glowed again. Just like the sun, it always came back.
The sound of footsteps drew you out of your stupor, and you saw the figure of your arch nemesis approaching you. You let out a sigh. What did he want? And at this time of night, too.
He raised his spear wordlessly. A small, almost invisible smile pulled at his lips. He wanted a fight… again. But this time felt different, as if he had come to some sort of realization. It wouldn’t hurt to allow him this one fight, especially when he wasn’t opening his mouth.
So, you raised your sword and positioned yourself into a fighting stance. A few seconds passed. The air was silent. Then, in a flash, the two of you dashed forward. The sound of clashing metal was loud in your ears, but you were focused– more focused and attuned to your opponent’s attacks than you’ve ever been.
He grazed your arm, you hissed. You slashed his side, he let out a small sound of pain. Back and forth you went, minimally hurting each other and side-stepping and clashing. Finally, you let out a frustrated yell and swung your sword. You didn’t care where it landed, as long as you beat him at his own game.
It happened too fast for you to notice. One moment, you were filled to the brim with adrenaline, and the next, you watched as he collapsed onto the ground, holding the side of his head. It all happened so fast…
You panted breathlessly, your chest heaving as you stared at him in complete and utter shock. The adrenaline was wearing off, and you could finally move your body. You rushed forward, throwing your sword to the ground to kneel beside him, pulling his hand away from the deep gash on the side of his face.
Did you do that?
“Let me see.” You said worriedly. You were experienced with wounds, as most of your siblings were healers.
Before you could get a closer look, he knocked you back. The wind got knocked out of your lungs, and you could feel your head throbbing. You raised a shaky hand to your head and slowly sat up, groaning at the pain.
Ajax stood in front of you, his face devoid of the smile he always wore, and the side of his head covered in crimson blood. Your vision cleared, and when you looked up, your eyes widened. You knew how the next events played out, you saw them for yourself. You gulped, your shock turning into anger as you glared at him.
“I win.” He said flatly.
You huffed, looking away from him. He knelt down in front of you, and you squeezed your eyes shut. You wouldn’t let this play out like it did in your vision.
You wouldn’t.
“There. We’re even,” Ajax muttered, “You pulled a dirty trick on me. I returned the favor.”
You shoved him away, though he barely budged. “That’s just like you. Selfish, prideful. You always have to have the last say, the last laugh.” You spat.
Ajax was quiet for a moment, studying you. You began to feel anxious under his scrutinizing gaze. You fiddled with the grass beneath your fingers.
He held his hand out, and you stared at it. The fire in his eyes was gone, and he looked just about ready to pass out, but you could tell that he was fighting off the urge to close his eyes. You had the chance to get up and leave. You didn’t have to take his hand.
Yet, you found yourself drawn to him. Like a moth to a flame. And so, you grabbed his hand. He held tightly onto yours, pulling you closer to him and wrapping his other arm around the small of your back. You still had the chance to push him away. To let him pass out here on the grass.
But you couldn’t. You couldn’t move a single muscle. You gripped tightly to his shirt as he pulled you closer. Your brows furrowed as he opened his mouth.
“Sunshine, I.. I’m sorry.”
You certainly weren’t expecting that. “For what?”
“For making you feel weak. Your brother told me…”
You were 100% going to punch Kaeya in the face when you got back.
“You’re not weak,” he told you, his voice firm, “I don’t have weak opponents. I have strong ones. Ones who I want to test my strength against because I know they’re gonna send me packing, but I still come back anyways. Because the only way I can get stronger is if I fight those who are stronger than me.”
“I don’t need your–”
“Would you just shut up and listen for once!?” He snapped, holding you tighter.
That made you shut up instantly.
He sighed heavily. “I’m not pitying you. I’m being sincere. I only ever fight against you because you’re strong, and I want to learn from you. My master taught me that every battle is worth it, that every person I fight is someone I can learn from. You’re one of those people. So shut up and realize your own strength. Your own worth.”
You stared at him with wonder in your eyes. He held your gaze.
“You’re the pride of Apollo’s children. Even your father has recognized your strength. Please, just see it yourself. See yourself the way I do.”
“I…” You couldn’t say anything. You didn’t know how to respond, so you did the only way you knew how.
You pulled him closer, pressing his lips to yours in a slow, gentle kiss. His lips were chapped, and you could taste the metal of the blood from the cut on his upper lip. His kisses were messy but gentle, as if you were fragile and he was handling you with the utmost care.
When you pulled away, he leaned his forehead against yours. A smile erupted onto his face, so dazzling you felt as if Cupid had struck an arrow through your heart at that very moment. He let out a content sigh.
“Do you see now?”
“I don’t know…” you trailed off, “maybe if you kiss me again, I will.”
He chuckled, his warm breath hitting your face. You smiled, caressing his face with your thumb. “And I thought I was slick.”
You hugged him tightly, scared of letting him go now that you had him in your embrace.
“(Name)... I feel dizzy…”
“Oh shit!”
You spent that night in the infirmary, nursing his wounds.
