After having seen this episode and gifs made from it innumerable times over the years I have finally realized why it bothered me.
HIS EYES ARE THE WRONG COLOR!
Why are they so dark here?

It astounds me that anyone doesn't just automatically DO THIS.
I mean, I've always had that instinct, even when I was a kid and in order to "Look It Up" I had to get someone to take me to a library or hope I had time to do it at the pitiful school library. Or look in the "Lincoln Library" set of books my grandparents had that were kind of like books that wanted to be an encyclopedia when they grew up. Or try asking the grownups around me, which was extremely hit-or-miss and biased by their own paradigms.
We had a couple books called "Tell Me Why" and "More Tell Me Why" that were given to us by the "neighborhood grandma" who lived next door. They were each over 2 inches thick and I read every page multiple times over because I wanted to know EVERYTHING. I read our dictionary from front to back. I read the labels on everything that was in the house. I read every book we had in the house, read all of the hundreds of issues of National Geographic that we owned (his mom gave him a gift subscription to it EVERY YEAR as far back as I can remember until he died at age 57. We probably had a literal TON of those.) I read everything I could get my hands on, to find out stuff.
BECAUSE THERE WAS NO INTERNET.
As much as it frustrates me that I had to make such an effort to find the answers to ANYTHING, not having the internet as a child was probably a good thing, come to think of it, because I doubt I would have ever gotten any exercise or developed any social skills whatsoever.
It is incredibly important to train yourself to have your first instinct be to look something up.
Don't know how to do something? Look it up.
See a piece of news mentioned on social media? Look it up.
Not sure if something is making it to the broader public consciousness, either because you don't see it much or you see people saying nobody is talking about it? Look it up.
Don't know what a word means? Look it up.
It will make you a better reader and a better writer, but it will also just make you more equipped to cope with the world.
So often, I see people talking about something as though it is the first time anyone has ever acknowledged it, when I've been reading reports about it on the news for months or years. Or I see someone totally misinterpreting an argument because they clearly don't know what a word means--or, on the other hand, making an argument that doesn't make sense because they aren't using words the right way.
Look things up! Check the news (the real news, not random people on social media)! Do your research! You (and the world) will be better for it.

Home Repair as a variation on the theme: Reason so many broken things in my house have remained that way for years. I have always fixed what I knew about and many that I could figure out (so many, many things) but things on my spouse’s plate wait until he has the time and energy and physical capability to do it perfectly right. Which rarely ever happens. Any he has said he will take care of are off limits for me to attempt. 🫤

I couldn't agree more with all of this! NorthernSparrow is one of my favorite authors of all time (fanfic or otherwise)
MUST ADD THIS: I highly reccomend NorthernSparrow's Into the Fire, but with a caveat: It will devastate you and destroy your soul, but it will (slowly, gradually) resurrect you. Buy (a case of) tissues before you begin.
Forgotten/Flight
Forgotten and Flight by NorthernSparrow || @northern-sparrow Rating: General Audiences (Forgotten) and Mature (Flight) Word Count: 480k
Forgotten Sam and Dean are working a case in Wyoming, but are distracted by news of a dangerous angel called "Castiel" who they can't remember ever having heard of before. The name seems a little bit familiar, but neither of the boys is sure why. Based off of mid-season 9 (before mark of Cain, before the angel army); takes place several months later, in September 2014. Case fic wrapped in a big ol' amnesia mystery. NO SLASH; the idea is that this is something they could do on the actual show, like a 3-4 episode arc with some mini cases and a cool story running through it all. GETS VERY EMOTIONAL with super strong friendship/family themes, lotsa hurt/comfort, about three metric tons of Cas angst, feels galore, plus monsters and M&M's. Flight Sequel to Forgotten. A/U from mid season 9. Castiel is human and wounded, and Dean and Sam need to get his grace back - and his wings. Things do not go as intended and Cas faces a difficult road. Long case fic with strong emphasis on Team Free Will friendship/family bonds. Will get serious and angsty and lonely.
These fics combine into one epic, alternate canon story. As a former ornithologist, NorthernSparrow really digs in on angel lore. In fact, I would say Flight is one of the foundational wing fics of the fandom.
These fics are written in the canon universe and feature some interesting cases. In the first installment, Dean and Cas have amnesia. When they run into Cas on a case, they don't know who he is. It's an interesting mystery that will keep you guessing. In the follow-up, Cas is injured and trying to regain his angelic powers.
If there's one thing NorthernSparrow does as well as intricate wing descriptions, it's hurt/comfort. And these fics have heavy hurt/comfort vibes. I will admit that Flight in particular affected me when it came to Cas' injury. It also features a slow burn. Like really slow burn. They don't even get together until the second fic slow burn. It's so worth it though when Dean and Cas finally come together.

Do NOT EVER CUT OR BREAK AN ALLEVE tablet.
The risk is getting an overdose because you have defeated the slow-release of the medication that is built in, and you get too much, too fast.
I did that once, several years ago. Didn’t want to take a big dose of a painkiller but my back was especially painful, so I cut a naproxen in half. It made me so sick I thought I was going to die — nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulty in staying upright and walking, ringing ears, disorientation and scared because I didn’t feel “sick” otherwise and it came on so quickly.
For time-release or slow-release or really any medication, be absolutely sure it’s safe to break before you do it. Call a pharmacy to ask if you are not sure. If the first one you call won’t help, keep trying.
Every time I see another ibuprofen post on this site I'm like STOP
STOP
Stop.
Take that after a meal. Take it with a big glass of water. Don't take it on an empty stomach EVER. Don't take it with alcohol. You will destroy your stomach. You will end up with an ulcer. You will vomit blood. I'm not exaggerating.
Yes, you. Yes, it will happen to cute little you. With your cute little bottle of miracles. Ibuprofen really does that to your body.
Love, an adult person over 35 who can't take NSAIDs anymore

TIL that this guy, who I remember from A WHOLE LOT of movies and TV shows in the 70s:
Tumblr media
is the same person as THIS GUY:
Tumblr media
who was AWESOME as Mike Ehrmantraut on Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. He was the absolutely perfect choice for that role.
How did I find out this Completely New Information? Well....The Husband is watching the old movie 48 Hours and called me into the room to have me try to guess who he was (he does this frequently)
I said I know I've seen him in a lot of things, but didn't know a name, then he told me he played Mike. I am still stunned.

It’s the only movie we watch every Christmas. therefore: Christmas Movie.
Q.E.D.
My question is… how is Die Hard not a Christmas movie? Have you actually seen it or do you just not think action movies or R rated movies can be Christmas movies?

A Star Trek/Rudolph crossover story? Who'd write one of those?
Yeah, well....might've been me...
So, anyway - Captain Kirk gets kidnapped. And of course, Mr Spock will do whatever it takes to get him back.
Even talk to reindeer.
Bounce: Star Trek/Rudolph crossover. 10,000 words.

We used to get the Archie McPhee catalog in the mail. Probably stopped because we didn't order anything....lots of crazy fun stuff for us off-kilter folks...or our grandkids.
If nothing else, go look at their tumblr page and find the variety of candy cane flavors you will not find from any other source.

Mac & Cheese Candy Canes
Macaroni and Cheese Candy Canes are a particular favorite of picky eaters. These candy canes taste like your childhood favorite — mac and cheese. It’s like comfort food-flavored comfort food! Macaroni and cheese has become a holiday family tradition in many parts of the country, so why not let our holiday candy reflect that? Each candy cane is 5-1/4" tall with yellow and white stripes.

Another reason to buy locally grown produce or grow your own if possible.
I really need to try again with the gardening, even with my moldy grey thumb which has never even been able to successfully grow zucchini. The plants were huge and gorgeous but the zukes withered when they were the size of my pinky finger. 🫤

Dean would definitely make Cas put on the inflatable dinosaur suit so he could laugh about it. Then he’d reveal his real costume for Cas: a cowboy with wings made of leather.
