summary: You are apart of the Wiskayok Yellowjackets, having Natalie as your best friend and being terrified of planes, navigating the days before the flight to nationals. word count: 7k warnings: swearing, quite a lot and will be more..- underaged drinking, use of weed and some drug that natalie took, allie's leg in some detail, a lot of cannon moments, one use of y/n.. I know.. I know. will probably be used a few more times in the coming parts a/n: I figured out that the scrimmage did actually happen after the whole nat and tai arguement.. so apologies and this will be a slow burn kind of, multiple parts, probably to the end of season 3, I also will probably make other short stories in between parts

To say that you were afraid of planes is an understatement, you were fucking terrified for more reasons the one. Planes are giant pieces of metal flying thousands of feet in the air with engines bigger than cars, who wouldn’t be scared of that? But you played for the Wiskayok Yellowjackets, who the hell thought you’d go to nationals? But here you are- watching as the ball came off of Tai’s foot right to Jackie’s hea..- whoomp- holy shit, it bounced right off her head into the goal. Right past the goalkeeper. You ran forward, cheering, avoiding bumping into the other team, right to Jackie and everyone else. You joined in with all of them, jumping around and screaming buzz, buzz, buzz! You were going to nationals..! You were going to have to go on a plane..-

You were currently putting on your shoes while “Shoop” By Salt-N-Pepa, rang through the locker room. You stood up and grinned while everyone sang before walking past Natalie and squeezing her shoulder. You walked next to Van for a moment before reaching the bathroom to wash your hands while she walked into a stall. Standing next to Jackie to wash your hands while she touched up Allie’s little bee on her face caused you to hear the conversation between them. Van stepped out of the stall and you stepped to the side to let her wash her hands with a small smile. Lottie waltzed in and called for Jackie, saying coach wanted to speak with her. Van dried her hands and stepped in Jackie’s place touching up her face paint while you and Lottie remained in the bathroom. You listened to Allie’s little spiel on prom and her rude jab at Van. You scoffed and shook your head while Allie walked out. “Jesus Christ-" Lottie huffed with a smirk before you scoffed out another laugh while Tai walked in. “Does someone wanna tell Kelly Kapowski to maybe worry less about prom and more about not fucking up nationals?” … ”Oh, come on..” Van debated before you spoke, “She is right though, Allie hasn’t been on her A game.” Then Lottie continued, “If she plays like she did at states..” This time Tai butted in, “Yeah, don’t worry. That’s not gonna happen.” She crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows before walking out of the bathroom. You chuckled wryly while you glanced at both Lottie and Van with furrowed eyebrows, “The hell does that mean-?”

The gym was quiet aside from the principal's voice speaking, he was talking about congratulating the boys before he finally moved to the main event. He called for the girls’ soccer champions and Jackie led out of the double doors, jogging to the line.

You followed behind Allie, next to Natalie while the cheering continued from the bleachers. The team stood on a line next to each other, some girls clapping, some just looking. You lightly nudged Natalie and grinned a hand gesturing towards the crowd.

“Hey we’re uh going to nationals- and holy shit, the crowd fucking loves us, you can hear the difference from us and the dumbass boys baseball team.” You chuckled, yelling slightly over the noise before glancing around again and smacking your lips. Natalie replied by rolling her eyes and scoffing, “Yeah, yeah, let’s just focus on this shitty pep rally.”

You’re stood next to Natalie while Tai is standing with her arms crossed speaking on her master plan for Allie. Nats arguing with Tai, and Lottie across from you looking like she’d rather be anywhere else but here. Then Shauna comes over, confused. Lottie explains that they’re talking about Allie, and Shauna, still confused, questioned it.

“Did you black out at states? She totally choked.” Tai explained in a miffed voice before Natalie cut in with an exasperated and frustrated tone, “She’s a freshman, Tai.” “She’s a liability.” Tai spoke in a realistic tone.

You exhaled sharply from your nose and placed your hips, speaking up, ”So what are you gonna do about it, Tai?” You scoffed lightly while your head tilted, waiting for an answer. Tai looked at you and raised her eyebrows, expression slightly smug while she tilted her head. “She can’t screw up if she doesn’t get the ball.”

This time Shauna spoke up, obviously on the fence. Her and Lottie’s body language the same, arms crossed, guarded. “You want to freeze her out?” Shauna nods like she can’t believe it, eyebrows raising while Lottie looked in different directions. “She kind of sucks, but… I don’t know..” Lottie mumbles before Natalie buds in again, voice slightly raising and hands flying up.

“That’s because it’s bullshit-” She exclaimed with a dry chuckle at the end. Tai retorts in a whisper yell, “Oh, yeah? What’s your plan, then?” “I dunno.. Play like a fucking team and win? It’s worked so far.” Nat scoffed while she spoke, you wiped your face with a hand and shook your head.

Tai countered, arms crossing a bit tighter across her chest, “Everything works until it doesn’t. And for the record, you smell like a wino. Get your shit together.” She huffed before you stepped in, eyebrows furrowed, “Fuck off Tai, don’t bring that into this, don’t be shitty just cause no one likes your villianous ass plan.” You bit back and shook your head, hand on Nat’s back, leading her away before turning back towards the small group. “We’ll see you at the next scrimmage.”

You had walked with Natalie in silence, walking to your car while staring at the ground. You decided to break the silence with a nudge, looking over at her while you walked into the parking lot, taking your keys out of your pocket.

“Nat, I’m scared, y’know? I don’t want to go on a plane- of course I want to go to nationals but shit- I’m scared. You know how I am about planes.” You mumbled while you arrived at your car unlocking it with the key before stepping inside waiting for Natalie.

“Yeah, I know..” She mumbled, clearly still ticked off about the whole ordeal with Tai. “But I’ll be right there with you, having to hear your dumbass complaining the whole time.” She chuckled, seeming to be lightening up, it made you happy, the corner of your lips curling up.

“Good, I’d expect nothing less from you. Maybe you can sneak some booze on for us.” You chuckled and grinned before putting the key in the ignitions and backing up out of the space, hand on the gearshift while Nat moved her hand to rest on top of yours. Putting the car in drive and driving to your house.

You arrived, parents not being home, like always. You drove up the driveway and parked your car. You pulled the key out of the ignition while unlocking the door and opening it. You stepped out, putting the key into your pocket while looking over at Nat’s side.

“You gonna get out?” You hummed, hand on the top of the car while you bent down to look at Nat through the car, other hand holding your door open. She snorted and shook her head, “No passenger princess should have to open their own door when they arrive at the castle.” She grinned, her eyes hooded while crossing her arms.

You scoffed and shook your head before closing your door and walking around to the side, soccer bag in hand before opening Nat’s door while raising an eyebrow. “Is that what you were waiting for, princess?” Nat visibly blushed, turning her face for a second before rolling her eyes. “ Shut up, asshole.” She mumbled before stepping out of the car and closing the car door. You chuckled and walked towards your house before looking back over at Nat.

“You okay? I saw you become a tomato earlier, wanted to know if you were ripe.” A smirk bloomed across your face while you unlocked your front door, opening it and waiting for Nat to walk through. “Oh my god, you actually are an asshole- how the hell do I put up with you?” She scoffed while walking into the house. She waltzed in like it was her own, which to an extent it was. Especially with her whole family situation.

You shut the door behind you both and stretched, shirt riding up and arms above your head before cracking your knuckles and neck. Throwing your soccer bag on the side of the front door bench you walked through the hallway to the kitchen. Grabbing the handle to the refrigerator you pulled it open and grabbed a can of Coke, holding the door open while setting the Coke on a counter.

“Nat, you want somethin’ to drink? Got basically everything.” You shrugged before scratching your neck and waiting for a reply. Nat walked into the kitchen and shrugged before heading to the liquor cabinet, obviously. You huffed and closed the refrigerator before walking to a cabinet to grab two whiskey glasses. Your hand reached out with grabby hands, indicating to let you have it, she reluctantly gave it to you and you poured a normal amount before pouring some Coke into yours.

“That’s probably gonna taste like shit.” She huffed a laugh while shaking her head. She grabbed her glass and grabbed your hand, leading you up the stairs. “Yeah no, drinking straight whiskey is what’s gonna taste like shit.” You rolled your eyes and allowed yourself to be dragged up the stairs. Nat pushed open your door with her elbow to keep from spilling the whiskey.

You smacked your lips and took a sip of your drink before you walked over to your desk and pulled out a bag of blunts. You dangled the bag and grinned before also grabbing a lighter. You walked back over to the bed and sat down with the lighter, bag and drink. You sat down and sat the drink on your side table.

“You know me so well.” She hummed and put a hand on her heart before taking a drink of whiskey. She furrowed her brows and cleared her throat, “Yep that’s strong.” She widened her eyes but she grabbed the bag of blunts and pulled one out before taking the lighter and flicking it on. She lit the blunt and inhaled it, blowing it into the air.

She grinned towards you before you grabbed the blunt and inhaled, relaxing softly. “After all the shit that happened today, I’m glad weed is here.” You chuckled softly before running a hand through your hair. Natalie watched you inhale and exhale the smoke, eyes trailing over your face before looking away quickly.

“Yeah, Tai’s plan to fuck Allie over is messed up, like we get it she could risk us nationals but it’s just a game.” Nat complained before reaching for the blunt again, taking a drag. She then adjusted her position to be shoulder to shoulder with you, her legs dragging up to her chest, blunt hanging between her fingers.

“Mhm, like Tai’s easily the most competitive, but even though Allie’s a little bitch, she doesn’t deserve to be frozen out.” You mumbled and tilted your head back against the wall before closing your eyes and exhaling. “Hey but at least we’ll kick ass at the scrimmage.” A small giggle slipped past your lips while you knocked your shoulder against Nat’s before grabbing your glass and taking a drink.

“Damn right.” Nat smirked before taking another drag and crossing her arms. She glanced down for a moment before she went quiet, smirk vanishing. Nat cleared her throat, handing you the blunt before she spoke again, gently, almost timidly. “Do you think I could stay over tonight? Mom’s being a piece of shit more today..” She mumbled, looking at her arms.

“Yeah, Nat, of course.” You chuckled quietly and furrowed your eyebrows, reaching for the blunt, taking it from her. You then reached an arm around her, bringing her into a side hug. “How about a movie?” You asked gently, she nodded before you grabbed the remote, flicking on the TV before settling on a channel, resting next to Nat while swapping hits of the blunt.

The next day came fast, you woke up next to Natalie. You both took a shower, separately, you let her borrow clothes before grabbing breakfast. You both grabbed your bags and drove to school.

You stopped by the locker room to drop everything off before running to your first class.

School dragged on until the final bell rang and everyone exited school, walking to the locker room. You found Nat and walked alongside her, making light small talk before entering and changing into the practice uniforms.

The team has been practicing footwork for the past half hour before they huddled up in a group for a break. Coach Scott blew the whistle and called for everyone to take a knee. Being next to Natalie, both sitting on the ground, you both adjusted your positions partly to look like you were actually taking a knee.

Coach explained that junior varsity would be helping out with the scrimmage and taking the red pinnies while also saying Coach Martinez couldn’t make it for personal reasons. While he was saying that they were about to get started Laura Lee interrupted.

“Uh, excuse me, Coach Scott. Shouldn’t we say prayer first?” To which he responded with a chuckle. “Uh, it’s just a scrimmage, Laura Lee.” Laura Lee raised her eyebrows and tilted her head which made Coach Scott relent. He cleared his throat, “But, uh, sure. Yeah. Knock yourself out.” He waves his hand in defeat.

Laura Lee nodded and started and finished with an amen which the team reciprocated. You all stood up and stretched before getting into teams, obviously being on Nat’s team.

You passed the ball to Nat after nutmegging one of the varsity players, and dodging another. She received it and avoided the defenders before Allie called for the ball, Nat passed, and then you and Nat both winced and cringed as Allie fumbled the ball.

Coach Scott blew the whistle loudly before scolding Allie, you glanced at Nat before your gaze traveled to Tai. Your face contorted with confusion which caused Nat to look, quickly scoffing as Tai asked to switch teams. You watched as she put on the pinny and walked over to Allie’s side, guarding her.

Everyone got back into position, but not without Jackie looking confused. The whistle blew and Allie was running, Tai next to her before shoving Allie to the side with a rude jab. Laura Lee, who was behind them both, moved to the side with a confused expression.

Shauna approached Tai telling her it’s not working before Tai responded, “If we can’t freeze her out, she’s gonna have to learn to play under pressure.” Tai raised her eyebrows before they both went to their positions.

Tai was next to Allie, butting against her shoulder before Laura Lee passed the ball to Allie. Allie maneuvered around Tai while Shauna called for the ball, Allie passed it and Shauna received it before Allie called back. Shauna passed it, the ball was rolling to Allie, she was about to grab it before Tai slid right into her leg causing Allie to fall and roll but before she fell a sharp crackk- rung through the air. She rolled while gasping for air before sobbing.

Everyone stopped, Jackie, you and Nat walking closer, confused. You nudged Nat and widened your eyes. Then Allie started screaming, rolling on the ground clutching her leg in front of Van.

Everyone started coming closer to look, everyone’s expression now shocked, disgusted or scared. Shauna gasped, Laura Lee crossed her heart with a cross while Coach Scott budged past everyone muttering a ‘holy fuck-’ Misty ran to grab a red cloth, she touch Allie’s leg and another crack and squelch was heard.

Allie screamed out in pain and Shauna, Lottie, and Laura lee all crowded around her, holding her while Coach yelled at Misty to go call an ambulance while you just stared, blinking, while next to Nat. She eventually walked over to Allie’s side while Coach Scott ran to the office where Misty went.

Jackie stood watching with furrowed eyebrows and heavy breathing before her eyes flicked up to Tai, who was slowly approaching with also furrowed brows. Her expression was slightly unreadable while her lips parted a bit, just staring.

The locker room is quiet aside from the running water, Van is currently staring off into space, fist against her face. Nat, who you’re sat next to on the floor, is also quiet, taking off her cleats. You already have, the second you entered they were off and into your gym shoes you were.

Shauna was setting her cleats down while behind some lockers, Tai sat on a bench. She was staring at a locker in front of her about 9 O’clock from where you and Nat were.

Jackie walked near you and stood for a moment, looking around and swaying slightly. Mouth open, debating what she would say before she chose and spoke. “I know we’re all really worried about Allie. But- It might not be as bad as it looks.” She tried to reason, hands moving at her side before Nat butted in after Jackie was done.

“You could see her fucking bones, Jackie- I’m pretty sure it’s exactly as bad as it looks.” Nat deadpanned before looking at you, who nodded. You glanced at the ground and exhaled.

“Oh, God. I’m gonna throw up..” Van choked out while she put her hands on her knees and looked up mouth open in a gagging manner. Jackie stood with her arms crossed, choosing to continue speaking.

“Okay, but, I mean..” She exhaled and she glanced away, “..We’re still a team. And we still have each other.” She spoke in a, failing, cheery way. Laura Lee then chose to speak out.

“And the Lord works in mysterious ways.” She spoke while looking up before a loud bang rang through the locker room. Nat slammed her locker not before scoffing out a ‘nice work, Taissa.’ You blinked before standing, grabbing your own bag.

“I’m- uh- sorry guys, thanks for the, uh, pep talk? Jackie, doubt it worked but nice try..” You spoke sincerely before you turned towards Tai. “Tai, your plan backfired but I know you didn’t do it on purpose.” You cleared your throat before walking towards the exit after Natalie. “I’ll see you guys at the party tonight!” You called over your shoulder while catching up to Nat.

“Nat- Nat-!” You called out but she kept walking, you honestly don’t know why because eventually she’d have to face you cause you were her ride home. “Goddamnit- Natalie!” You yelled and she stopped, turning to face you with an annoyed expression.

“What-? I mean I just fucking saw bone for the first time in my life and I tried to stop it and Tai didn’t fucking listen!” Natalie whisper yelled and shook her head and heavy scoff escaping her lips. “Let’s just go.” She ended with a sharp exhale and turned back around heading for the exit to the parking lot.

The ride to Natalie’s trailer was quiet, almost the type of silence that causes people to go insane. You kept silent, not wanting to initiate an argument but the silence was gnawing at you.

“Nat.. you can mope and slump all you want but you can’t control what happened. Tai obviously didn’t mean for that to happen.” You stated, your hand twitching from slight anxiousness. You exhaled softly, cruising down a street while stealing side glances of Nat.

“It’s just so fucking stupid! Tai did it on purpose- to get Allie out of nationals!” Nat snapped at you, causing a slight wince. You cleared your throat before she started again. “Who’s side are you on, huh? Do you think I’m crazy? I mean you heard how she was talking-”

You inhaled sharply, closing your eyes for a moment before focusing back on the road. “Nat. Tai isn’t a fucking psychopath, there’s no way in hell she meant to do that- and no. I am not choosing sides.” You huffed before pressing down a little harder against the gas. You clenched your hands around the wheel keeping your eyes on the road.

“You kind of are.” She rolled her eyes before putting her elbow on the door and resting her cheek on her fist. She looked out the window at the trees passing before zeroing in on the entrance to the trailer park.

You decided to leave it at that, turning into the trailer park. Your jaw was clenched while your expression remained neutral. You slowly came to a stop, placing the car in park.

“I’ll uh pick you up at like 9.” You exhaled, unlocking the car. Nat frowned slightly before her walls shot up. She furrowed her eyebrows and opened the door, grabbing her bag, she stepped out with a sharp ‘ok’ and shut the door slightly harder than normal.

You sighed and wiped your face, you don’t know why she’s so ticked off about this, she didn’t even like Allie. Maybe it was the fact that what happened to Allie could have triggered something from what happened with her father.

You put the car in reverse and backed out before turning around and driving back to your house. You blasted music the whole way just trying to get it off your mind how Natalie was acting.

You looked in the mirror looking at your outfit, you had decided on jeans, converse and a slightly cropped baseball tee. You threw on an Adidas zip up sweatshirt and grabbed your keys.

Walking down the steps you looked at the empty house, sighing before grabbing a beer can and walking to your car. You opened the car door after unlocking it and stepped inside. You popped open the beer can and took a sip.

Putting the car in reverse you backed out of your drive way, heading to Nat’s trailer. You hummed along to ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ by Nirvana that was playing on the radio, thumb tapping the wheel of your car while tapping the foot that’s not on the gas.

You turned into Nat’s trailer park, eyebrows raising slightly to find her outside with a cigarette in her hands, looking down at the ground. You rolled down your window slowly approaching in your car.

The car fully stopped before you stuck your head out the window, “Hey, earth to Scatorccio.” You called out, causing her to look up. She flicked the cigarette out and stood up. She walked over to the passenger side and opened the door, slumping in.

“Why the long face?” You tilted your head, eyebrows furrowing while you turned the volume down. You then placed a hand on Nat’s shoulder, she tensed up and looked away.

“Nothing, just the usual, mom’s probably on another drug, house is more quiet and shit.” She muttered out, crossing her arms and exhaling. She closed her eyes and rubbed her face. “Can we just go, I really need to get my mind off this whole fucking mess.”

“Uh, yeah, sure..” You smacked your lips and pulled out of where you are, turning around and going onto the road, to the party. You blinked and exhaled quietly, keeping your eyes trained on the road, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.

“Hey, you can get absolutely wasted, or high, I’ll be your designated driver, but remember I’m picking you up tomorrow so you have to be ready. Are you packed?” You suddenly spoke out causing Nat to look over at you, eyebrow raising slightly.

“Uh, yeah, okay- thanks.. But uhm I will, I’ll be up and packed, I’m not yet but I will be.” She said after clearing her throat, voice a bit strained which you will not ask about. You nodded and pursed your lips, before you saw the party up the road.

You pulled in and found a spot for your car before putting it in park and pulling your keys out the ignition. Your eyes trailed over the people then at Nat who was opening her door.

You stepped out, locking the car before looking around at the crowd of people. A truck pulling in which had everyone cheering along with a song coming from someone's boombox. The people pulled out a keg from the truck and more cheering occurred.

You walked next to Natalie, hands in your pockets. While you passed a cooler, your hand slinked out and grabbed a beer, popping the cap on someone's truck. You saw Shauna and Jackie, sending them a wave and smile before catching back up to Nat.

Nat walked up to Kevyn and Rich while you accompanied her. You weren’t necessarily close with either of the boys yet you tolerated them for Natalie. They greeted her before engaging in some light conversation.

You nursed your beer while looking at the different things like trees, people, cars. Rich then walked away, you didn’t catch why but shrugged it off. Kevyn said something you also didn’t listen to, but Nat chuckled so you paid attention.

Rich came back either running or jogging, you didn’t know before speaking, “You guys, my cousin hooked us up.” Huffing as he came to a stop. “You got it?” Natalie exclaimed, slightly surprised, a smirk on her face.

“Got six words for you, my friend. Lucy… in the sky.. With diamonds.” He pulled out a bag and wiggled it in front of Natalie which she in your opinion too eagerly grabbed.

Kevyn muttered something about inefficiently saying something to Rich while you stared at Natalie, eyebrows furrowing. Her ringed fingers opened the little baggie, grabbing whatever the hell drug it was. She stopped before fully taking it out, Kevyn's words catching her off guard.

“Dude, don’t you go to the Olympics or whatever tomorrow?” She was still, stilled before looking up at you, unblinking. She finally blinked and subtly shook her head.

“Yeah.. I do.” She furrowed her eyebrows now looking at the ground before popping the little tablet into her mouth. You sighed and looked at her, taking a swig of beer before asking what the hell she just took.

Shauna stood against Jeff’s car while holding a red solo cup, watching Jackie dance around Jeff. Randy doing a keg challenge saying something idiotic before she scoffed and pushed off the truck.

She slightly stumbled over to where Taissa was refilling a drink from a little drink station, watching her for a moment before speaking out.

“I admire your resilience, Tai.” Taissa looked up with furrowed eyebrows while Shauna took the chance to keep speaking, “Can’t be easy, knowing you fucking crippled someone today.”

Van and Lottie had ended the conversation they were having with two other people and turned towards Shauna and Tai, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Cool. Good talk.” Tai said dismissively, Van was already close to intervene. Lottie watched while holding a cigarette and red solo cup.

“Just admit you did it on purpose.” Shauna called out, arms tensed at her sides. “Excuse me?” “You heard me.” Shauna bluntly replied. “You’re wasted.” Tai scoffed out before Shauna spat out, “And you’re a fucking sociopath.”

Shauna stepped forward and Van’s hand pushed her back while she called out a ‘whoa!’ and a ‘calm down’ which Shauna did not listen to. At this point, Laura Lee, which you don’t even know why is at this party and Nat have also come closer.

Shauna recoiled, voice raising, “No! Listen, you guys. We don’t have to worry about the Allie problem anymore because Taissa fixed it for us.” Shauna’s head tilted while staring daggers at Tai.

Your eyebrows were raising by the second, taking a drink of your beer before Laura Lee spoke out, “What? What’s she talking about?” She turned towards you and Nat with a lost look. You and Nat both looked over before Nat replied.

“She’s talking about Taissa’s little plan.” Nat ended with a small dry chuckle, you rolled your eyes before they landed on Tai who turned towards Nat. “Oh please. Since when do you give a shit anyway?” Nat now looked somewhat confused as everyone looked at her. Nat’s eyebrows furrowed while she glanced at you.

“Don’t you have a bong to hit or a dick to suck?” You winced at Tai’s words, fuck, that was harsh- you hand moved to the small of Nat’s back before Lottie pulled on Tai’s sleeve shaking her head and Shauna butting in again.

“Don’t talk to her that way.” She sputtered out defensively before Nat chimed back in, which you thought to be somewhat rude. “Oh, fuck off, Shauna, I don’t need you to defend me. Last time I checked, you were fine with the whole ‘freeze her out’ strategy.” Nat scoffed out while tilting forward, you pulled on her jacket bringing her up straight again.

“Okay, seriously- what are you talking about?” Laura Lee asked still very confused, everyone else who were stressed and annoyed all yelled out, “Shut the fuck up, Laura Lee!” You blinked and looked sympathetically at her before looking back.

Taissa said something and then a commotion started again which made everyone gain unwanted attention. The bickering escalated and everyone started looking which made Randy fucking Wlash yell out ‘cat fight!’ to which he yelled it even more times.

You exhaled defeatedly and just pulled Nat closer to you, looking down at her and shaking your head. Eventually Jackie stormed into the big crowd, “That’s it!” which failed, making you chuckle slightly before she yelled again.

“Enough!” To your surprise, everyone actually went silent. “Yellowjackets, with me! Now!” She yelled and started walking away. Everyone looked around before following her. You walked next to Nat, hand brushing against hers while you stared ahead at everyone.

You all arrived in a secluded area while Jackie paced, looking at each and every one of you. Mouth open for a moment before speaking, “I don’t know what the fuck that was, but I do know that it’s over.” She spoke firmly before exhaling and slapping her hands at her sides. “We’re about to go to nationals. And based on what I’m looking at right now, we might as well not even bother getting on that plane.”

She sighed, everyone looking at the ground and or taking sips of their drinks, you holding pinkies with Nat while clenching the beer bottle in your hands. You honestly agreed with the whole plane thing. Jackie stood for a moment before nodding, “Alright. Everybody line up.” Everyone visibly paused- you stifled a laugh before Jackie clapped.

“No, I’m fucking serious. Line up! Come on!” She yelled out before everyone stiffly moved into a line. You next to Nat and Laura Lee. “Here’s what we’re gonna do. I want each of you to go down this line and say one nice, true thing about every other girl on this team.” She said sternly while everyone rolled their eyes.

“Who wants to go first?” Jackie called out to which Laura Lee responded. “I will, Jackie!” Your eyes clenched shut while you inhaled sharply, trying to not laugh. You inhaled as Laura Lee started, Nat having to look somewhere else for a moment gathering herself.

“Taissa, you are beautiful in the eyes of our Lord… Van, you are beautiful-” She was cut off by you and Nat bursting into laughter and Lottie yelling out ‘oh my god-!’

Jackie cleared her throat, “ Okay, Laura Lee, fall back.” She put her hands on her hips and exhaled muttering a small ‘fuck’, “Okay. I’ll go first.” She said and walked over to be in front of Tai.

“Taissa Turner, you have more fight in you than anyone I’ve ever known. I’m inspired by your determination.” She smiled before moving on to Van. “Vanessa Palmer. Your smile makes me feel happy every time I see it.” Van chuckled and Jackie moved to Laura Lee.

“Laura Lee.., I truly admire your faith.” Jackie said softly while Laura Lee smiled, Jackie got to you and you raised an eyebrow, tilting your head. Jackie smiled and laced her hands together.

“Y/N Y/L/N, I don’t know how but everyone, literally everyone likes you, you’re so kind and a bridge for everyone on this team.” You scoffed out a laugh while grinning, your pinky squeezing Nat’s. Jackie nodded and moved on to Nat.

“Nat, I love that you don’t care what anybody thinks.” Natalie looks like she’s almost somewhat sad or touched, you can never tell. “And you’re so completely yourself.” Jackie ends before Van buds in, “She’s also deadly at beerpong.” Van said while chuckling.

“So, go on. Tell her.” Jackie encouraged while everyone looked around at each other. Van turned towards Laura Lee, Nat turned to Lottie while you stood watching as Shauna walked towards Tai, apologizing and sorting it out. Jackie walked over after Tai walked away, chatting with Shauna.

You stood, furrowing your eyebrows slightly before taking a swig of beer and looking at the ground. Your feet shuffled while Jackie and Shauna walked away.

Both you and Nat had ended up in front of a campfire, Nat staring off into space. Her eyes were glazed over and glossy while she looked like she was breathing more heavily than normal.

You, who always kept an eye on Nat, noticed this from your sitting position on the ground. Kevyn and Rich looked at Nat, head tilting slightly in confusion. Nat looked up a bit more, eyebrows furrowing as she tilted her head to her left.

“Misty?” Nat spoke out while looking ahead before shaking her head slightly and looking around. You furrowed your eyebrows and stood up, mouth open in confusion.

“Nat, you okay..?” You asked, hand landing on the small of her back. She blinked and just looked at you before stepping a bit closer, face nuzzling into your shoulder. You nodded in understanding and wrapped an arm around her and started leading her towards the car.

You unlocked the door and helped Natalie in, placing her and taking her red solo cup, throwing it on the ground. You patted her shoulder and closed the door. You opened your door and stepped inside, starting the car and pulling out of the parking area.

You pulled out onto the road, ‘Pony’ by Ginuwine filled the car while Nat’s head slumped against the door. You glanced over at her, eyes softening a bit before your eyes returned to the road.

The car pulled into Nat’s trailer park, driving down to her trailer. You slowly stopped the car, taking the key out and walking over to Nat’s side, you helped her out and closed her door, locking it.

You helped her up the stairs, opening the door quietly. Natalie’s mother, Vera, was asleep on the couch. You slowly closed the door while holding Nat up. You exhaled slowly before walking down the hallway to Nat’s room.

You pushed open the door and led Natalie to her bed. You gently laid her down pushing some hair from her eyes. You were going to pull away before her hand grabbed your wrist.

“Stay- please.” She mumbled while opening her eyes, glossy and uncoordinated. Your eyes softened again, they tend to do that to her a lot. A small sigh escaped your lips while you took off your jacket, throwing it somewhere in her room.

Your hand went closer to her, lifting her back up a bit to take her leather jacket off. You then tossed it where yours was before taking off her boots. You clambered over her on the bed and settled next to her kicking your shoes off.

It really wasn’t a problem for you since you had already packed everything you’d need for the trip. You could wake up, help Nat pack, drive to your house, and then to the airport…, which sounded like a good plan.

You settled next to Natalie pulling a pillow under your head. Nat turned to face you before her arm wrapped around you, pulling herself closer. She mumbled something incoherent against your shoulder that you shrugged off.

Your own arm wrapped around her waist while you drifted off slowly. Breathing eventually evening out while you rubbed Nat’s back, trying not to think about having to get on the plane tomorrow.

The next morning was hazy, you were a bit hungover. Nat was worse but you had woken up a bit late and slapped her awake. You raised your head and slapped her arm while you blinked yourself awake.

You shot up and climbed over Nat, walking over to her closet and opening it and just starting flinging clothes at Nat. You then grabbed her luggage and placed it on the end of the bed.

“Gosh- what the fuck-?” She grumbled out groggily. She raised her body up, resting her wait on her arms. Blinking rapidly to adjust to the light coming through the window.

“Nat, get your ass up, choose the clothes you want and pack.” You hissed, the stress of being late and having to get on a plane catching up with you. You then walked out of her room, careful to not disturb her hopefully still asleep mother.

You stalked into the bathroom, grabbing her toothbrush, toothpaste and some other products she’d need for the trip. You walked back into her room, dropping the things onto her bed.

“Alright, then pack those- are you starting your period soon-? You should probably pack pads- or tampons.” You shrugged while grabbing your jacket off the floor and Nat’s. You threw it at her and pulled on your jacket.

“Jesus Christ- you are a headache before trips.” Nat scoffed and packed clothes in before looking at you. “I’m probably going to take a shower- you can stay if you want or go and get your stuff from your house and pick me up.” She shrugged and you nodded.

“‘Kay, I’ll do that, I’ll be back in maybe forty minutes. Be ready, dressed, packed, and good spirited.” You added with a grin, putting on your shoes before walking past Nat and pulled her into a side hug.

You had arrived back at your house, empty, once again. You took a shower, did your hair and make-up before going over the checklist of stuff you need. You made sure you had Valium, make-up, feminine products and hygiene products as well.

Walking over to your backpack that has yet to be packed but has everything around it, you started putting things in. A book, wallet, camera, walkman and some tapes and a pair of boots.

Zipping up the back pack, you set it next to your luggage before picking your outfit. Jeans, converse, and a striped shirt along with a leather jacket. Nodding you put on the back and brought the suitcase downstairs, grabbing something to eat and a coffee.

You packed everything into the trunk and sat in the driver's seat. You then drove to Nat’s trailer again. She was waiting outside with her things, headphones around her neck, connected to her walkman.

She blew smoke out of her cigarette and then stomped on it. Going to your trunk and putting her things in there. She adjusted her leather jacket before sliding into the passenger seat.

“Hey, stranger. You ready?” You asked with a dry chuckle before Nat looked at you and nodded, a grin appearing on her face. “Before you ask- yes, I did bring booze, and maybe some blunts.” You hummed and pulled away from her trailer.

Her grin widened and she giggled before looking at the road. “Gosh you're a dork.” Rolling her eyes before she pulled her legs and placed them on the dashboard. “But good, maybe that trip won’t be so bad. Guessing you won;t be talking much during the flight right?”

“Mhm, I brought valium, so I’ll probably be out for the whole thing.” You hummed and tapped the wheel. Nat nodded and closed her eyes, probably wanting to get more sleep after her rude awakening.

You focused on the road and after thirty minutes arrived at the airport, grabbing your stuff before going over to Natalie's side, waking her. She grabbed her stuff and you locked your car before you both walked into the airport, meeting up with the team.

As you gripped your suitcase and backpack strap your hands trembled slightly while you stared ahead. You felt sweat form in every place while you took a shaky breath, evening yourself out.

Everyone went through TSA and security before getting to the private plane (thank you, mr. matthews), everyone walked in, Jackie being the first one on. You, behind Nat, Van behind you. You overheard Van exclaiming about the private plane. At least these things usually never crash. You thought while wiping your hands on your pants.

“I can’t believe your dad paid for a private plane.” Van chuckled enthusiastically before Lottie chimed back in. “It’s pretty much his only form of parenting. I guess I’ll take it.” Lottie shrugged with a wry chuckle.

“Well, thank you, Mr. Matthews.” Van chuckled and everyone joined in, giggling. You walked further in the plane choosing the window seat. You placed your suitcase in the overhead compartment, taking Nat’s as well and putting it in.

You then walked in the row, sitting in the window seat while Nat sat down next to you. You heard the others talking, Jackie and Shauna, Mari and Akilah. You then saw some kid you’ve never seen before and an even younger one.

You guessed it was Coach Martinez’s kids. You shrugged it off, grabbing the valium from your backpack and popping one into your mouth. You closed your eyes and clenched your jaw, hands holding the armrests. Eventually everyone got situated, and the plane went onto the runway.

Then the plane started to take off, causing everyone to cheer, including Nat. This just made you clench tighter while you tried to drift off. You did. You had knocked yourself out. Hopefully you’d wake up and be at nationals..
