a large, tapir-like grazer of the african savannah. Though he packs a trunk, the lifestyle of this heavy-set ungulate is much more like that of a rhinoceros - they live mainly solitary lives, only coming together to mate or fight over mating rights. Paentapirs (formerly known as megatapirs - see this initial sketch [link] ) are generally recognizable by their short, flexible trunks, forward-facing tusks, and terrible vision. The Paentapirids (almost-tapirs) are a diverse group, with members having filled a variety of ecological niches across the old world.
