when asked to think of something that angers her in order to channel the anger and use it to move a train, el’s first thought is of mike laughing and having fun with max. that doesn’t do the trick. kali tells her to dig deeper.

so she does, and we as the audience learn that what el wants the most is a normal life and for all of the terrible things in her past to never have happened to her. what she wants is safety, normalcy. her traumatic past and the people that took everything she holds dear away from her is what angers her the most.

she learns all of this while away from mike. she finds her sister, sure that whatever kali wants, she wants as well. and then she takes yet another step in her journey of self growth when she realises that she does not want what kali wants in life.

el grows as a person and takes many steps in the right direction, towards finding herself as a person and being exactly who she wants to be… all by herself. without mike.

her relationship with mike has been nothing but an obstacle for her to overcome throughout the entire show. mike doesn’t help her grow as a person. he doesn’t help her find herself. and he certainly isn’t who she wants to spend the rest of her life with.

they don’t bring out the best in each other.

and that’s why i wouldn’t root for mileven endgame even if they were written to end up together.

The blue and yellow lighting on Mike in the first image represents his journey towards minionhood when he finally realises that he’s a minion. the second image is where he finally comes to terms with this side of him through El reassuring him that him being a minion isn’t the end of the world and the warm yellow lighting shows his acceptance towards his minionhood
