āWE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED, SCOURGE! GIVE UP!ā
The moons Masser and Secunda were at their fullest, bathing the clearing in muted light, enough to see fairly well. Girvosi stood, surrounded by what must have been at least a couple dozen bandits. Perhaps more, among the trees. It was hard to say at this point.
Sheād been expecting it for a while, honestly. Raze a few bandit dens to the ground and youāre bound to piss off some of them. The Dunmer was more shocked it took them this long to organize an ambush on her.
āYouāve had your fun long enough, Scourge! Weāre gonna take your head and put an end to your myth! one of the bandits, a big Orc, pounded his chest. āPeople say thereās no body under that armor. Only a soul. I intend to prove them wrong!ā
Girvosi (or as the outlaws knew her, the Ebon Scourge) calmly drew her blade, the flame enchantment crackling to life. āWhat people say about me is no concern of mine,ā she replied, ābut if you wish to rush headlong to your deaths, I will oblige you.ā
āHA! Big talk for someone caught in an ambush! Weāve been preparing for you, Scourge! We know all about your fire magic!ā
āIs that so?ā Girvosi took a relaxed stance, āSo youāve taken precautions against my magic. Smart. Tell me, thoughā¦ā
Slowly, she looked around. āDid you also account for dragon fire?ā
The leader paused. āā¦thatāsā¦youāre bluffing! Sheās bluffing! She canāt possibly stop all of us! GET HER!ā
The bandits charged forward, weapons drawn, and Girvosi turned her attention to the group directly in front of her. Taking a deep breath, she spoke the words.
āYOLā¦TOORā¦SHUL!ā
A massive fireball burst forth in front of her, incinerating everything in its path, including the bandits. Several charred corpses fell to the ground, causing the rest of the charge to skid to a stop.
āTHE THUāUM! Itās the Thuāum!ā
āIt canāt beā¦Dragonborn?!ā
She turned her attention back to the leader, who looked horrified. Yet he managed to muster up some bravado, roaring. āWE OUTNUMBER HER! SHE CANāT STOP US ALL!ā
Casting a flame cloak spell upon herself, Girvosi got to work, wielding both spell and sword to cut down each bandit. They were already shaken, and poorly organized. It didnāt take long to thin their numbers. The remaining attackers were much more wary, hesitant to approach.
The leader growled. āDamned uselessā¦FINE! Iāll do it myself!ā Wielding a hefty battle axe, he charged.
Girvosi was more careful with him; he was the ringleader for a reason, after all, and she made a habit of not underestimating her opposition. She would have to wait for an opening with this one.
The clash of weapons rang through the air, and the Ebon Scourge watched her opponent. He was clearly getting tired, and more careless.
There.
Dodging his swing, Girvosi thrust her sword forward, piercing his chest. His eyes went wide, and he dropped his axe is shock, blood trickling out of his mouth.
āIt will take far more than this to kill me,ā she replied coolly, ābut I will grant you; you came closer than most. For this, I grant you a warriorās death; no magic. Just a blade.ā
Pulling her blade out of his chest, she spun and slashed at his neck, taking his head off in a single stroke.
Any bandits that remained fled almost immediately, running for their lives after witnessing their leader fall.
Girvosi took a moment, breathing in deeply. It was unlikely that they would try anything like this in the near future. Sheathing her sword, she made her way through the woods, looking for a decent spot to set up camp for the night.

āAnd what manner of place is this, I wonderā¦ā
Girvosi stood slowly, gaining her bearings. Sheād been sucked through some sort of portal, and was now in wholly unfamiliar surroundings.
Resting a hand on the hilt of her sheathed sword, she took a moment to orient herself, then began proceeding in a direction, hoping to find answers.

Girvosi once had an older brother named Sevilo, and she was essentially raised by him since both of their parents passed on suddenly. They were inseparable, and both interested in Dwemer artifacts. Girvosi became an explorer delving into ruins, while Sevilo became a scholar, seeking out books and research on the lost civilization.
Sadly, it was not to last; a group of Nords falsely accused Sevilo of theft, and took ājusticeā into their own hands, beating him nearly to death while Girvosi was away. He managed to hang on long enough to see his sister again, who arrived back the next day, but succumbed to his injuries soon after.
Something in Girvosi died that day. But something else was also born; something dark and vengeful.
