Charlie Sheen in a leading role, with Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman in supporting roles in A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III. Judging by the pictures, it feels like a crazy roller coaster ride where everyone is high on drugs.

First images of Charlie Sheen, Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman in Charles Swan III
In a rare break from his usual brand of headline-making antics, Charlie Sheen has uploaded a selection of snaps from the set of Roman Coppola’s A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III.

Covering a mixture of on-screen and off-duty moments, its nice to see the troubled star back in gainful employment, and looking healthier than he’s done in a while.

I had a great opportunity to learn about this unique project during a free transmedia forum held Film Society of Lincoln Center's new Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center. Robot Heart Stories is a new project of Lance Weiler, who is behind 2011 Sundance hit Pandemic 1.0. Visit http://www.robotheartstories.com/ to learn more. If you would like to make a monetary contribution, you may do so here.
Get to know Lance Weiler by checking out his website and learn more about Pandemic 1.0!
vimeo:
Robot Heart Stories is the first in a trilogy of experiential learning projects from award winning storytelling visionary and experience designer Lance Weiler and creative producer Janine Saunders. Each project will inspire young and old alike to co-create and share. The goal is to reboot how we think about learning in an effort to unleash a collaborative journey into the future of education. The trilogy focuses on air, land and sea in three unique participatory storytelling initiatives designed to develop creativity, digital literacy and collaborative problem solving skills. In part one of the trilogy a robot has crash landed in Montreal and now must make her way to LA in order to find her space craft and return home. Two class rooms in underprivileged neighborhoods, one in Montreal (French speaking) and the other in LA (English speaking) engage in an experiential learning project that utilizes math, science, history, geography and creative writing to place education directly in the hands of students. By using collaborative problem solving and creative writing the students help the Robot make her way across North America. The project concludes with an actual space launch! That’s right, the robot, along with copies of the students stories and artwork, will board a commercial rocket that is headed to the space station later this fall. To learn more and support the project, visit here.

My Week With Marilyn Theatrical Trailer Released
Initially, Michelle Williams turned down the role of Marilyn Monroe, thinking Monroe is too different from her. I guess she came to her senses and took on the hard task of portraying one of the most famous and mysterious icons in Hollywood. It is said to be one of the few -if not the only- films that show Monroe as a human being, not just a caricature or a blonde sex symbol. The film is about "Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier's, documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl" (courtesy of IMDb). Directed by Simon Curtis, other actors and actresses include Kenneth Branagh as Laurence Olivier, much buzzed about Eddie Redmayne as Colin Clark, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson and Judi Dench, as well as other talented cast members. There is a big buzz around Michelle Williams' portrayal of Marilyn Monroe, so much so that she could be a strong Best Actress contender during the awards season. Film Society has a "Spotlight" blog post on why people should see the movie. It is worth checking out.
What do you think about the trailer? Do you still want to learn more about this relationship?
My Week With Marilyn opens November 4th in United States. However, Marilyn will have its World Premiere at the New York Film Festival, as the Centerpiece film. If you would like to be one of the few people to see it before the theatrical release, see it at New York Film Festival! Showtimes are October 9, at 6:30pm, 9pm and October 12, at 7pm. Click here to buy tickets!

THE BLOG IS BACK!
After months of silence due to moving and an intense schedule at Film Society of Lincoln Center, the blog is back! My apologies to everyone who was expecting regular posts over these few months but got nothing. Additionally, I would like to thank those of you who started following me, aka newcomers.
This first comeback post is not really related to film but it is an example of successful marketing, the power of Internet and word of mouth. A few weeks ago, PlayStation released a teaser called "'Michael' Live Long Play" with an apparent launch of a campaign on 10.5.2011. Yesterday, thanks to Kotaku, I quickly learned what is was: PlayStation's way of thanking gamers (not just PS fans but all gamers) around the world with a trailer that includes some of the most famous characters from popular PlayStation games. Video games are basically useless without gamers, who give life to each character, build impressive fan communities and even able to influence developers. Sony, you're too clever. Go to www.longliveplay.com for more information about the campaign.
Here is the trailer- if you can, watch it full screen in HD (preferably 1080p) for all its glory:

Exclusive Drive Red Band Trailer from IGN!
Ryan Gosling, Christina Hendricks, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Albert Brooks (as evil?!). What's not to like about Drive? From IMDb: "A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong." An upcoming movie from Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive is Ryan Gosling's first action movie. He has broken our hearts and made us sob until our tears ran out. We sympathized with his characters' quirky "habits." Every girl has fallen in love with him in The Notebook. It seems like Gosling is expanding his repertoire this year with Crazy, Stupid, Love (opens today!) and Drive. I think he is a great actor.
Drive premiered at Cannes Film Festival in competition (!) and took home Best Director for Refn. In my opinion, it was definitely chosen as a wild-card for the competition but it was loved and lauded by critics and the general audience. Apparently, Drive got a 15 minute standing ovation at its premiere.
This trailer for Drive has the feeling of Steve McQueen car chase movies (Bullitt anyone?), with standout performances from the cast -especially Ryan Gosling. Can Gosling be the next McQueen? What would you name the nameless driver?
Drive opens on September 16, 2011.

Hot Trailer: Contagion - "NO ONE IS IMMUNE"
A "killer" Gwyneth Paltrow? Who would have thought. If she dies during the trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Contagion, then this movie hints us that no one should be surprised about more plot twists and sudden deaths. Trailer gives a realistic, gritty end of the world story. Read More

2011: The Year of Mark Strong
Tumblr media
Though he previously acted in various different movies, I think that the movie that catapulted Mark Strong's career was Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla. There, he played Archy, the right hand of British mob boss Lenny Cole (played by Tom Wilkinson) and the narrator of the movie. Archy follows his boss's orders like a true follower, does what Lenny wants from him, tries to play "cool" and has a funny sense of humor when it comes to punishing people (ie. famous Archy slap-http://youtu.be/nAa36d-HPyQ). However, though he operates on the other side of the law, when he is lied to or betrayed, he can even turn against his boss to see that justice is served. Strong's character was surprisingly well developed, compared to others in RocknRolla. The ending of the movie made me even more a champion for Archy and Mark Strong. (Read More)

Huge Posters with LED Screens for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2!
I took these photos at New York City's Times Square-42nd Street Subway Station. Posters feature either Harry Potter or Voldemort, with the tag line "IT ALL ENDS," followed by film's release date, 7/15. In addition, you can also watch the trailer from the small LED screens embedded into the posters. Very clever.

Francis Ford Coppola is coming to Comic-Con!
Tumblr media
After years of being out of Hollywood, is Francis Ford Coppola going mainstream again?Or does he simply want to reach out a niche audience at this year’s Comic-Con? Though these questions might not be answered until July 23rd in San Diego, it is still exciting to hear that the director will be showing clips from his latest horror movie, Twixt. According to Coppola, it is “one part Gothic romance, one part personal film, and one part the kind of horror film that began my career.” The synopsis is as follows:
A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl.  That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V.  He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him.  Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.
Twixt is shot both in 2D and 3D, and stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Elle Fanning and Ben Chaplin. Comic-Con last hosted the director in 1991 for a preview of Bram Stroker’s Dracula. Be there on July 23 in the Hall H auditorium if you want to see a sneak peek and listen to the score performed by Dan Deacon!

First Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Trailer is Released!
Let the Right One In director Tomas Alfredson chose Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy as his next directing project. Based on the novel of the same name by John le Carré and adapted to the big screen by Peter Straughan and Bridget O'Connor, the movie is a British spy-thriller that is set in the Cold War era. Plot is described as "In the bleak days of the Cold War, espionage veteran George Smiley is forced from semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within MI6's echelons. (thanks IMDB)" Carré's famous spy Smiley's investigation involves MI6's highest "level," which is also called The Circus.
I am so excited to see so many talented British actors in one movie: Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones and Ciaran Hinds! What a cast. Can't wait to see Oldman as Smiley. Fun fact, the events in Istanbul described in the book was shot on location.
So far, the trailer has created a lot of buzz; expectations are high, given the actors starring in the movie. I'm sure Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy will be on every critic's radar when the movie opens on November 18, 2011. I will make sure to see it.

Hot Indie Film Trailer: Terri
I saw the trailer for Terri when I went to go see Midnight in Paris. It seemed very quirky but also down to earth, thus a genuine coming-of-age story. Directed by Sundance favorite Azazel Jacobs, Terri is the story of -yes, you guessed it right!- Terri (played by newbie Jacob Wysocki), an overweight, lonely high school boy. As he constantly gets harassed in school and struggles in classes, he finds solace in the most unlikely place: office of the assistant principal, Mr. Fizgerald (John C. Reilly). Our pajama wearing Terri befriends Mr. Fitzgerald and through this friendship, they learn different things about themselves and about life. It sounds very cliche but the trailer proves to be different. Also, Terri is "The Pic of the Week" at indieWIRE! It was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Terri opens this Friday, July 1st. Make sure to go and see it!
To get more info on the film, click here. Check out indieWIRE's Sundance review of Terri here. Interview with Jacobs and Reilly here.
