“Shhh,” Mateo hushed her as soon as she began to worry over him, nudging her gently with his elbow, “Stop worrying, I’m trying to serenade you, here.” Shooting Eden a faux annoyed glance, the corners of his mouth were already tugging into a grin before he even began to speak again, “I can’t sing for shit, wouldn’t wanna make your ears bleed or something,” he mumbled, nudging her again gently as he scooched closer, ever so slightly, “Pick a song you know, you can sing it. You can sing can’t you?”

they’re just the slightest touches, but as soon as eden notices mateo inching closer, a flush starts to creep on her cheeks, her smile only growing as he teases her. “ i believe serenading involves you singing to me. ” she says, shaking her head at him fondly. “ but of course i can sing. i have daily concerts in the shower, i'm honestly such a great singer. ” she says, adding a wave of her hand for dramatic effect. “ you're really giving me too much power here, you know that ? what if i pick a really sad coldplay song ? or adele ! everyone's going to start crying. ”

“yeah, i’m okay,” she told her best friend, wishing she could get the vile taste out of her mouth. “it’s really bad, though. i wouldn’t try it, if i were you,” she warned the other blonde as she watched her take a drink of it. “see, i told you,” she said, “i don’t understand why people drink it for fun. it’s so gross.”

“ god, i don’t even know how people do this for fun. ” she mutters, pushing the drink away slowly. she grimaced as the taste stayed in her mouth for longer than she wanted it to. “ the only alcohol i’m really into are those really sugary sweet ones. you know those ? ” she says, reaching for her cup of water & downing a gulp. “ you can barely taste the alcohol in those. ”

At this point, a few people had gathered around Mateo as he continued to strum poorly on the guitar he’d taken from a random room. “Thanks guys, I’ll be here all week,” he said in a dull tone, flipping off a guy who’d told him to quit it about five minutes prior. Glancing just left to the gargantuan who’d merely grumbled and walked off at this point, Mateo made eye contact with a familiar face, sitting up slightly and waving them closer, “Glad I caught you, I’m currently taking requests. You got one? Before the jerk off hosting the party realizes I stole his shitty guitar.”

eden looks down at him with narrowed eyes, seating herself beside him with a light sigh. “ you really should be careful. i hope he doesn’t, like, beat you up or something. ” she says, glancing around at the others around them. “ at least play something good. don’t fuck up the short time you’ve got before the guy comes back. ” she says with a shrug. “ are you gonna sing & everything too ? what if i pick a song that you don’t know the lyrics to ? ” she says with a small grin.

charlotte picked up the glass that she could’ve sworn was hers and took a swig before nearly gagging on the contents. she put the glass back on the table and forced herself to swallow what she had drank. she shook her head once it was down, “i really don’t think that was my drink. that might be the worst thing i’ve ever tasted in my life.”

“ jesus, are you okay ?? ” eden gasps, a slight smile tugging at the edge of her lips as she watches charlotte react so violently. “ it can’t be that terrible, right ? ” she says, reaching her hand over to pat her friend’s back. “ besides, if it was right here, maybe it’s, like, mine ? ” she adds, taking a sip of the drink but winces immediately. “ good god, never mind. that’s worse than terrible. why does alcohol taste so fucking bad ?? ”

ok so first off .. eden grew up in ithaca until her parents split when she was seven & her mother moved out to manhattan

she’s inspired a bit by christine mcphersen aka lady bird & noora saetre

she split her time with her parents every few days & they were very systematic about it & constantly asked her for her opinion, never leaving her out despite their dying feelings for each other

she grew up genuinely believing in love despite having divorced parents; the way they handled their divorce is something that eden had always admired 

but, although her family life was generally good & calm, her parents still had high expectations for her, which was really one of the only things they had in common

they consistently took her to church, bought her conservative clothing, & expected her to follow through with something along the lines of medicine or at the very least, science

she obeyed her parents as best as she could until she graduated from high school, & was happy to leave her parent’s watchful hold on her & pursued something they still don’t accept 

eden tends to be very rebellious at times now that she doesn’t have to rely on her parents to live

she often feels a bit lonely because she grew up with no siblings, so she clings on to her friends sometimes

she changed up her wardrobe as quickly as she could, but she still does love some lace & long dresses once in a while 

she usually has her glasses when in her room or when she’s studying, but wears contacts all other times

she’s played tennis all her life & secretly wrote numerous stories in countless journals

oh & she’s bi af !!!! & a virgo & loves making friends but is very, very guarded 

she is kind of closeted though, at least to her family because she’s afraid they won’t accept her & will cut her off entirely

she’s very loving to those she cares about but often pushes people away without meaning to & can be extremely stubborn & randomly curse a little too much
