DTIYS Update!!!!

I’m tentatively planning to start the entry/drawing period on July 27th. This would then go on until August 23rd. Raffle winner(s) would be announced the 24th, and their doodle prizes would be due (from me to them) by September 20th.

So that would be;

July 27th-August 23rd: dtiys drawing/entry/participation period

August 24th: winners selected (randomly)

August 24th-30th: rest/communication period for doodles

August 31st-September 20th: doodle creation and 1st Paid doodle raffle entry period.

September 21st: dtiys is completely over, winners doodles have been made and posted. Paid doodle raffles ongoing.

Reminder! These dates are Tentative and still subject to change.

Every interaction with this post will help motivate me to get this done, I struggle to do even the things I want to so it will be much appreciated!

Found the book I wrote in a homeschool group class when I was 8

Got a couple scientific inaccuracies, but considering I was 8 it’s actually pretty good. Not nearly as cringe worthy as I had worried. I found it and was totally ready to clown on my past self but it actually has a decent if basic plot.

Two friends (young black panthers) go out to play and get lost for a bit before managing to make it home just just in time [for dinner]

Could easily be revised and re-illustrated. Honestly I might just do it.

In honor of the goal of the comic being “terrible” I made it on my phone in Ibis Paint (I usually draw on a large iPad in Procreate).

New lore I need to write out before I forget but one one doc to write it in so here it goes

Edward Lafayette, my “magical boy” oc. He is ok with being called a magical girl, or a magician. But things like Wizard of soccer are off the table. Warlock is actually kind of correct, in the end sense with a patron, except his patron is Magic itself.

You see, there were two god like beings fighting each other, and chasing each other through the multiverse. Ed didn’t want them to fuck up his world, so he traded his left arm to the personification/god of magic of the world next to his. (Suradane has no native magic). She accepted his deal after hearing his situation and gave him plenty of power to take down the troublesome entities.

Edward killed them, for a number of reasons. And wound up getting lost of their power too. So now he’s basically a hid himself just based on his power level. However, being human he can only use so much of it at once and using a lot has side effects. Also the personification/god of science/technology of his world doesn’t like that he has so much of her girlfriend’s power, or how quickly the amount of magic in her world is increasing, so both his magic patron god and the science god put limits on him, with exceptions for emergencies. (Magic+Science Personification Girlfriends/Wives are canon for Aluyerudi+Suradane now.)

Thanks to his abundance of magic Ed can create a pseudo arm that looks and feels real to non mages. It also works like a real arm, but it is a constant drain on his power and thus another limiter on what he can do. If he wants to use his full power he needs to dispel the fake arm.

Also the whole killing gods thing happened when he was like, 15. And weighs on him a lot, he hates ppl talking about it so only a select few people know about it.

Been working on things for my Cara 100 followers dtiys this morning:

Organized my portfolio so people can have an idea of what to expect if they get one of the free doodle prizes.

Found and organized more references for Rapturia that I found I needed after opening up here reference wip

Did a bit of work on her ref, but not much since I needed better inspo/refs

And I made a music playlist for her!!

Now time for a lunch break before truly heading into battle!! (Drawing is fun but also hard lol)

Guess I’m having a good art week???

Random abstract doodle bc working on either of my most recent wips felt too hard. Pretty happy with this silly thing, though it’s a bit bright, but I’d say not quite eye bleed.

New WIP, the “birth” of one of my eldritch gods (the ‘nicer’ one of the problematic two)

I really kinda need to start over and plan the whole composition better, I wa just winging it and am really not surprised that I’m dissatisfied. Also drawing snakey heads with open mouths has always been hard for me so I’m (not) looking forward to working on that!

But I’m pretty happy with the overall idea even based on this relatively poorly executed version. With a bit of planning I think I can really make something cool.

Lore Tidbit:

Leopold was created and raised by Thaddeus, for Teddy’s amusement and nothing more. The only reason Leopold still exists is because Thaddeus managed to create something he couldn’t destroy, though certainly not for lack of trying.

Many of Leopold’s problems both internal and those that affect others, especially mortals, stem from his upbringing, or lack thereof.

There’s no way that spending several millennia being toyed with and literally tortured isn’t gonna leave some kind of scars, even on an eldritch god.

WIP of the Rapturia reference sheet for my upcoming 100 follower dtiys on Cara (I’m so close to 100!)

Spent waaayyyy too long mostly losing to perfectionism but I got the basic frontal anatomy done!

I’ll need to adjust positions and sizing to do the back and profile views which will show the wing attachment points. Then the wings will get ventral (bottom) and dorsal (top) designs on the sides, roughly where they are in green here

Rapturia is a Greater Harpy, the largest of the three Harpy sub-species in my original fantasy world Aluyerudi.

On Cara I’m doing a DTIYS at 100 followers!!!

Currently about to start drawing the ref sheet of the character for it

It’s going to be fun finally putting her on “paper”, lol (I’m a digital artist)

I’ve gotten soooo many refs for her and the Harpies of my fantasy world in general, so hopefully it’ll be pretty smooth sailing, but I’m still nervous. Whenever I try to draw my OCs I can never seem to get them “just right”. Wish me luck!

I’ve been reworking and organizing the Void Walker species lore/info. They are now called Tienovani (plural)!!

1k words into this draft and I still have two major sections to write, culture and magic. “Anatomy” and clothing/fashion/robes are done.

I put in a lot of work on it yesterday, though I had 700 or so words from the first draft from earlier this week.

And the original document about the Void Walkers was from January of 2020, pre Covid! Wild. It was also 7-800 words, though it also spoke about specific characters, such as Dakkor, whose lore is different now from back then.

Doodle/sketch/messing around with the design oc my oc Dakkor

Last two drawings are from years past. Images in order of newest to oldest. Oldest was in FireAlpaca.

Void Walkers are a very mysterious and secretive people, little is known about their physiology. They don’t seem to have arms, interacting with objects mainly through some form of telekinesis.

What people do know about is their cool robes, the clothes they never willingly remove. These robes come in many colors, textures and styles, often layered for extra interest.

While generally amicable, Void Walkers tend to keep to themselves when they can, avoiding unnecessary conversation.

Dakkor himself actually doesn’t mind idle chitchat and casual friendships, but the influence of his people’s culture has led him to become testy when speaking with other races for more than a minute or two. Whether he is aware of it or not, Dakkor will never admit he enjoys the company of a diverse group of people.

Hmm, I’m thinking the green part of his robe is a sort of hand woven texture? Like somewhere between those friendship bracelets knotted from several colors of string, and knitted fabric. The vague leafy pattern comes from the multiple colors of thread it was made from.

I definitely want to go for a more stylized ocean pattern on his blue layer, which is probably like dyed/printed. The gray under layer is just a large thread weave. The purple cloth is made of fine thread with gold embroidery, I’m not entirely sure how the ties coming off it work, but this is a wip so who cares?

I really love the decorations on his “tail”, adds a touch of his true character to his otherwise very strict and rule abiding persona.

Void walker “tails” are kind of retractable, and many don’t leave them out for extended times, and the ties on his tail would interfere with the “retraction”.

She turned out soooo pretty 💖

Originally I had green shading which looked cool on the wings but not so much on her skin. It was bad. So I tried a desaturated blueish purple and it looks much better! Maybe not perfect but leagues above the green lol.

Overall I’m very happy with how she came out.

Gonna be redrawing/redesigning this toucan dragon I made a long time ago. His name is Figbeak.

He’s a pretty little guy, with this piece claiming a 4ft wingspan and a body length of 26 inches. Idk if those numbers will stay the same, he might actually get smaller. And I’m not sure that body length is proportional to the wingspan.

I’m gonna be researching toucans to decide which species I’ll be referencing for him, as well as some arboreal lizard in the same habitat.

Base Sketch of poppy is done!

She was born (hatched?) without arms, and uses magic to animate two pairs of gloves to manipulate objects. The gloves are color coded for her main pair and left and right because she struggles with that. She also has poor distance vision because of her slotted pupils, but her close vision is stellar.

I still need to do some work on her colors, I had to tone down the saturation on the whole image because it was giving minor eyestrain. The pink and green are just sketch colors, not part of her palette. But you can see a sample of her pattern and how it lays on her body as well. That heart shaped bit isn’t canon but it might be lol.

She has a long bob but I’m too tired to keep working on that. Also I drew like five (5) pairs of ears before I got this one, I’m still not entirely certain about it, but it’s my fav so far. I do still have two other pairs if anyone wants to see for comparison. Her whole face is in need of more work frankly, but it’s good enough for tonight.

I haven’t even gotten into any of her clothing, for one thing she likes high collars (turtlenecks), and wears a “proper” witch hat.

Since Poppy is winning this poll rn she’s on my mind and new lore has come

So Poppy is an alchemist that often makes magical dies and trinkets for her sister and the cow owner of their fashion/clothing shop.

And I’m thinking, if she can make magical dies that create patterns on the cloth/clothing they are used on, why can’t she make potions that change her own scale colors and pattern? It would be a similar principle.

I’m still thinking some kind of diamond shape will be her natural pattern, but I need to find some real snakes to base her off of.

Looking at Reticulated and Burmese Pythons, as well as Russel’s Viper

I think it’s going to be a very irregular but still vaguely diamond based pattern, with 4-5 colors.

Poppy, a Naga witch, blue with orange hair and orange analogous markings, kind of diamondback markings?? Uncertain, open to suggestions.
