Eddie realizes that.. shit. he's never had a crying girl in his arms-

Yeah, he's had girlfriends int he past, but they were never serious like him and Madison were. So they never got to a point where emotional vulnerability came into the equation (and Eddie was happy to keep it that way)

So Eddie actually had no clue what to do when your girlfriend was crying in your arms. Damn-

So, he just did what his mom would do when Eddie would crawl into bed with her, sniffling because his dad had beat him again, and he was desperate for touch with no violence behind it.

He held the back of her head and pulled it close to his chest. He rested his chin on top of her head and just shushed her, softly humming to her at the same time. He even recycled some of the words his mom would use.

"Its okay, baby... I got you... Just let it all out... I'm right here..."

It’s a shared agreement that Madison generally just… doesn’t have trauma or anything that affect her personality negatively.

The really is that nothing huge happened. It’s just been all these little things.

And, in general, she doesn’t really talk to anyone about her problems.

It’s the thing she prays nobody will notice, nobody will ask about. Growing up as an only child with one parent and little to no distant family crushed her like a soda can in a pressure chamber.

So now she refuses to cry in front of other people, and when she feels like she ms standing at the edge of a cliff, she locks herself in the restroom stalls , takes her walkman, and turns on The Great Gig In The Sky.

Then came the day it got so bad she could hardly show up to class. She spent the majority of the day locked in the restroom stall. The teachers marked her absent, and since her dorm was locked from the outside, everyone assumed she was sick.

Madison comes out of the bathroom stall and runs a hand through her hair, putting ice water over her eye bags.

And then Eddie passes by. She had thought the halls would be empty because it wasn’t a passing period.

Eddie, too concerned to be gentle: “What the hell? Why aren’t you in your room? You’ve been ignoring us all day! We thought you were dead, or-“

Madison, hardly reassuring: “I was washing my face.”

It’s obvious it’s a lie.
