Boichi today confirmed what I suspected all along, which is that Xeno's submarine is directly referencing yes the Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, but specifically the Disney movie from 1954. I knew in my heart that Xeno, movie nerd that he is, would not be able to resist that reference

More wildlife nearby the settlement! According to my bird friend, if they're not just generic looking waterfowl they are likely Western Grabes. Their population has been declining from habitat destruction, but they're going strong in the stone world.

Now I just need to figure out what these damn fish are

From the latest episode we finally have a full shots of sunlight throughout the day around the castle. The sun rises on the right side of the castle and sets to the left, so Xeno's castle faces south.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The back where the cornfields are face north, so the giant lake that connects to the Sacramento is somwhere towards the south.
A lot would have happened over a few thousand years (a lake of that size isn't currently part of the Sacramento, especially not nearby the former city, river paths would have been disrupted in event of an asteroid impact, river paths would have been disrupted anyway because of levees breaking and mankind's infrastructure keeping the river in its historic place instead of it naturally shifting), but I need to take a look at that map again...

Personal notes from the Animate Times Interview with Kobayashi Yuusuke (Senku's VA) and Nojima Kenji (Xeno's VA)
Kobayashi thought that Xeno would have a deep, dark, intimidating voice, but Nojima's performance was quieter and emphasized more of Xeno's cleverness.
Nojima notes that Xeno does have a sense of purity to him that stems from his childhood attachment to science, but is also lonely because he's a genius. Deep down, he loves people; since he loves people, he doesn't want to be hurt by them.
Even though Xeno has Stanley (the host describes Stan as understanding Xeno, and Nojima describes Stan as an important and trustworthy friend), Xeno wants everyone to know him, understand him, and be mutually understood. Because he's a genius, it's hard to find someone he can communicate with on the same level. Nojima thinks that Xeno wants people to know him better, but because he's a difficult person to comprehend, he's very lonely.
Compared to Senku (who always had Taiju and Yuzuriha by his side, and unconditional support from Byakuya), in science, Xeno does everything by himself. Stanley and the others can only execute his science.
(Unlike Xeno (deeply implied)) Kobayashi notes that Senku thinks of science as an accumulation of thousands of years of knowledge, so he doesn't want to keep it all for himself. Senku's thirst for knowledge and desire to find entertaining things keeps him going.
When Senku and Xeno work together, Nojima thinks that it feels like they're unburdened by everything else, and are just having a fun and peaceful time together.
The host notes that between two geniuses on the same level, there's no need to stop and explain things, so they can talk freely knowing the other person will understand them. The anime showed them in that moment in a chibi-style because they were feeling pure enjoyment, just like when they were kids.
Kobayashi says that when Senku works with Chrome, Chrome's different perspective opens Senku's eyes to other possibilities, but with Xeno, they're equals.
Nojima thinks that this is the first time in Xeno's life that he's been able to enjoy science with Senku as they work together towards a common goal. He believes that moment will be a key point for Xeno, when he can look back and think, "I was having fun then." He's not sure if Xeno had an experience like that before, but if he had, he would have developed a different personality.

Fate-DCST notes. This was an inevitability. Nothing is going to come of this, but it's fun to think about.
Due to humanity being all but wiped out from the petrification, pretty much everyone can qualify as a hero of the human order, huh?
Senku: Caster. Post-canon/end of the series Senku is Mooncancer
Kohaku: Saber
Chrome: Caster
Taiju: Berserker for the modern Berserker state a la Nightingale of unshakeable worldview and incomprehensible determination
Yuzuriha: Caster like Miss Crane
Gen: Pretender. Though I can see Alter Ego too
Kaseki: Caster, but he also makes all the vehicles, so I can see Rider too
Suika: Assassin. End of the series Suika is Alter Ego
Kinro: Lancer (Shielder if there weren't only two candidates for the Shielder class)
Ginro: This is a hard one. Lancer for his go-to weapon but I can see a very cowardly Assassin with a high Presence Concealment
Ruri: Ruler. She wants things but is willing to let the greater good or stability trump her own wishes, I don't think she'd use the Grail
Magma: Berserker
Tsukasa: Saber. A very Richard-like Saber
Hyoga: Lancer
Ukyo: Archer
Nikki: Saber
Yo: Archer. Independent Action is always in effect
Minami: Archer. Camera-work counts as projectiles, right...
Homura: Assassin
Ryusui: Rider
Francois: Francois is hard... maybe Berserker. Nothing is getting between Francois and their work
Byakuya: Mooncancer by definition, but I can also see Berserker for the same reasons as Taiju
Amaryllis: Assassin. She and Mata Hari would get along
Moz: Lancer
Kirisame: Archer
Ibara: Archer if he has the Medusa, but I can see Assassin like Semiramis if he's summoned as the tyrant king
Soyuz: Alter Ego
Xeno: Avenger by default. Foreigner if you want to have some fun with it. Those are just if Xeno can be summonable at all- after that Animate interview, I'm really starting to think Xeno is actually a Beast class if he can't be contained early on
Stanley: Stanley could be in multiple classes easily. Assassin for his sniping, Rider for his piloting skills. Araxa Stanley is Avenger
Chelsea: Rider, perfect for a geographer traversing the world
Sai: Archer or Caster. Depends on if we're going more Archimedes or more Ptolemy
Whyman: Foreigner (does it count as part of the Human Order... maybe. Temporary ally)

The new Animate Times news article with Senku and Xeno's VAs is really good... I'm not a pro translator so I prefer to just write down by notes but this one needs a deeper dive

From Inagaki's weekly episode FAQ,
Q: "If there's nothing to fear if Senku is in charge of science, then why is Xeno helping out so much?"
A: He trusts Senku's science, but he's also not sure what the chain of command looks like within the KoS. Xeno truly hates it when society looks down on science; this is always a concern of his. That's his rationale, or maybe he simply can't be idle when it comes to science."
This is a nice little extra layer but also, unreal levels of workplace politics related trauma

Episode fun but something about that animation. Hm. Also pretty sure in the manga Stan rushed the ship but here they're just walking. He would not be walking
They also kept the violence pretty low too which I'm wondering what are they going to do for Araxa then

Going through the round table with Senku, Xeno, and Chelsea's VAs and when asked about anime-only scenes, Xeno's VA says there's some scenes of Xeno and Stanley's childhood. But then Chelsea's VA says '15' in response, which is this week's episode... more flashbacks this week, perhaps?

One of the funniest things Inagaki did was go 'there are no umbrellas in the stone world' just a few days after the collab with Sengen and Stanxeno carrying umbrellas. Why did he say that.

Personal notes from Inagaki-sensei's birthday livestream Q&A
If Xeno and Stanley had never met, Stan's life or at least his trajectory would have been basically the same, but Xeno would have become more villainous. 'More of a dark scientist', more theory-based in his work. In other words, Xeno is much happier with Stan around
Communication-wise, unsurprisingly, Xeno and Stan are both hard for other people to deal with.
When bringing up the combo of Senku and Taiju, Taiju is more openly honest. Xeno is honest in the sense that he speaks his thoughts (the host says it's hard to tell what Stan is thinking). Inagaki notes that Stan feels like the kind of person who doesn't say what he really thinks. Also that hes very sarcastic
In terms of things Xeno makes specifically for Stan, Inagaki says "The guns". The host notes that Xeno made a lot of guns for Stan's specialties like the sniper rifle. Xeno's leadership is directly related to Stan's strength and vice versa. They work best together as a combo, even other people notice it, and they are unwavering in that sense
From the Jump site, the T-Shirt of 158 you know the one has been no 1 in sales for two months now
The host asks if Stan dumping his ghillie suit on the ground bothers Xeno. Inagaki says that Xeno doesnt really care about that kind of thing. Basically, Xeno doesn't care about how his finished products are treated (vs Kaseki, who does). He does care about the aesthetics of how they look and the process of making them though
The elite soldiers on the American team are less than 50, maybe around 20. (With Xeno and the civilians, that makes 24 people total) Inagaki says that having that many super-elite people of a Taiju-level 'like Superman' should be enough to build a castle (I don't know about that...)
They tease a future voice drama with Stan and Xeno's childhoods but don't confirm or deny anything

Everyone focused on where baby Xeno is doing his experiments but what I want to know is how did he drag that gigantic gun all the way out into the middle of nowhere and how loaded are his parents that he could have gotten all the supplies for all that
Yes he's at that point one year into uni but listen you can't smuggle THAT many things out of the uni labs without it being glaringly obvious

We still don't have a name for the American Settlement (at least, not one that they gave themselves. I doubt all these americans would call their own settlement a colony and Corn City is something Senku decided upon) but the Wallma collab names them the 闇の科学王国. Which. We need to never let Xeno name anything ever again.
